My grandma was a ferret rescuer, at one point she had over 12 that people had abandoned that she would take care of til she found them new homes. She even has a ferret in her tombstone! She would love your stuff. I miss her... keep up the good work!
I used to do it to my Jack Russell… of course don’t be an idiot you have to be gentle and hold their weight, the scruff only helps calming him down. Although with dogs I think it has more to do with authority, dogs are pack animals so they submit to mommy and daddy (usually) so in your household you daddy dog and you got to discipline em. Other common mammals I’d guess it’s more meant for the parents to have a way of holding the babies to control them so hence the going limp but it works with my cat too, just again hold ‘em with two hands don’t be dumb. Although my cat really didn’t like that, we did name him after a god so he respected no kind of authority
As someone who gives my one of my ferrets meds 2x a day every day, thank you for spreading and sharing this information. I love all your shorts that appear, motivational, video games, ferrets... all amazing!
many mammals exhibit this behaviour. it is a reflex from when animals are young, and their parents would pick them up by the scruff of the neck. it causes them to basically go limp. very cool
It’s magical, even in peak zoom but their nails need trimmed, immediately from cat snake on crack to limp noodle, and back to cat snake as soon as you let go
no, and you shouldn't scruff a full grown cat like that. Ferrets actually have a nerve in their neck that makes them react this way. Them being light enough doesn't pose any danger to them. If you scruff a 10+ lb cat you're gonna choke it out.
Blasstois original comment was something about "it's not called neck meat, its called the scruff like grabbed by the scruff of the neck" in case anyone were to think my comment was weird, its only weird now because he changed his original comment. Thats the only reason. What
That was my favorite thing about owning a ferret as a child. My friends never believed I could do that, and it always blew their mind when I would do it
This applies to many other animals as well, like dogs and cats. The scruff (the neck meat area thor was holding) lacks a lot of nerves and is the place where their parents would grab them in their mouths to move or stop them. Do be careful when handling larger animals as trying to lift a fully grown dog by the scruff can hurt them as they weigh alot more. Still useful if you need to neutralize and control the animal by gripping the scruff and pushing the head down. Does not hurt them especially when they are that size and weight.
just never hold them and pull up by the scruff. don’t put their weight on their scruff only it’s called too many animals to pass. you can hold the scruff while they’re laying down or standing with their weight fully supported. just saying this so people see this if they click on your comment!

Thank you so so much for posting this, I have two ferrets. A younger boy that looks exactly like him lol, but I also have an older girl. I recently found out she has cancer. I know people were joking being like “this is hyper specific for no one” but I seriously needed to see this. I love ferrets to death, but their health can be so rocky. This is so helpful, and makes me feel less alone in the process of caring for their health🖤 Ty!
I always see your shorts on RUclips and this is the first one I watched on repeat multiple times it's very informative and I love ferrets I think they're cool
IMPORTANT! When scruffing them NEVER let their full weight hang without support! When they are young their bodies are built for it but it is a significant increase in mass when they are older and it can definitely be uncomfortable or painful.
just make sure to never pull weight from the scruff of a cat always make sure their body is supported only grab it when they’re laying down NEVER pull it to the point it’s tight around their neck. it’s really dangerous and lots of cats have passed from people scruffing them wrong

@@paulogaspar8295 No it doesn't depend, don't ever do it if you don't wanna cause your cat to be uncomfortable. As long as they're above the age of around 3-4 months, that's when you should stop scruffing them and pick them up normally and safely. As they grow they weigh more and the scruff shrinks, after they hit around 5 months you're just pulling the back of their neck off.
Your ferret looks exactly like my male ferret I had several years ago. He passed away due to cancer so it was good for my heart to see your ferret.
As a long time ferret owner, do this for medicine only, or if you have a sick ferret or one that you are switching to raw food, do NOT use it as punishment.
I have an idea on why, but just to elaborate, why is it a bad idea to use as punishment?
@@davidk7439 it will make them think that they did something bad when giving them medicine and they will be less prone to be accepting to being hold like that
@@davidk7439 basically what vonbraun said! Whenever you will need them pacified for a medical procedure or for switching them to another food (they can be picky at first) you want there to be trust. So this tool should not be used as punishment.
When he grabbed the neck meat, the ferret just had that facial expression of "oh, what did I do wrong?"
They're such cute creatures 😍
My favorite thing with Thor is I never know what I’m going to get out of his short, all I know is its going to be wholesome
So just like a kitten but more peaceful
@@henrynewgate9019 the only thing im curious about is, can you still do it with adult ferret ? Cause you cant do it on grown up cat anymore, because they get so heavy that holding them by the skin can actually hurt them (unlike when they were kittens).
But I suppose an adult ferret should be light enough
@@LyfaldaI've seen people say this but both my cat are unbother by me scuffing them. Now granted i don't just solely pick them up by their scuff more like i hold their butt in 1 hand and the scuff in my other hand.
@@LuciferMoringstar999 yea but then you are holding some of their weight so its fine
yes yes, but are they warm, i want to wear it as a living scarf and sneak it snacks.

@happmacdonald lol my girl Luna will stay for about an hour while we are out and about. After that she wants to do her own thing
I love how many animals share that common "STOP IT KID" spot lmao
We all love the ferret cameos, right guys?
Yes! 🐾
Yes.
yeah
Not really. Cat people have made any Introduction of a pet to a video immediately obnoxious of it wasn't the initial premise🤷♂️

I've never interacted with a ferret a single second of my life but you better believe that if there is a ferret in my vicinity that needs medicine I can give it to them
I hope you get the pleasure of interacting with one someday. I dated a girl with one a few years ago and the ferret was the sweetest baby ever. Very mischievous and liked to plunder but boy was so so adorable. They sleep likec15-20 hours a day tho lol
It’s called the scruff and it’s on many other mammals. There are no pain receptors there so is makes said animals the ability to turn into a handbag
All his ferret videos make me want another one. I had the sweetest little one ten years ago. I would wake up every morning to her curled around my neck or tucked in my shirt. Has been one of my favorite pets to own.
A full free roamer? My guys would end up in some mess the second I laid down to sleep
they probably would shit everywhere specially on your bed
@@dontreadprofilephoto5918 they are very clean and poop in one place. That's so ignorant on your part.
@@dontreadprofilephoto5918 ferrets are super clean despite being stinkers. They wouldn't want to shit where they chill they prefer to go away to a specific designated spot to pee and poo

I only learnt about your ferret rescue after your meeting with Dr K. I think its unbelievably lovely that you do that work too. Consistently proving why I like you so much x ❤

cats in noodle form
perfect little creatures
Had ferrets 20 years ago can confirm:) I miss them all the time. Best pet ever if you have the time.
Yea if you have the time and resources they’re the best
The amount of random useful knowledge I gain from this guy is actually insane
Please give us more ferret facts. You make everything interesting
Anyone who owns and loves ferrets are insta heaven
He's got a whole stream for them

My grandma was a ferret rescuer, at one point she had over 12 that people had abandoned that she would take care of til she found them new homes. She even has a ferret in her tombstone! She would love your stuff. I miss her... keep up the good work!
by far the cutest ferret i've seen, made me smile
This is just my favorite random short ever
HE HAS CHEAT CODES. OH MY GOD I LOVE HIM
he has them all
So do cats
This ferret weighs a fraction of an adult cat. Its like a big kitten, so this is fine even for a fully grown ferret.
Although my cat really didn’t like that, we did name him after a god so he respected no kind of authority
i had no idea ferrets could be scruffed like a cat. i am learning more every day
The wigglers are sooo cute❤❤❤❤
As someone who gives my one of my ferrets meds 2x a day every day, thank you for spreading and sharing this information.
I love all your shorts that appear, motivational, video games, ferrets... all amazing!
WAR DANCE is the best thing ferrets do
I've always loved ferrets, they're just such chaotic yet adorable little creatures lol.
They stink
This my favorite software industry and ferret medication channel.
I miss my ferrets I had two. And they were the best pets. Never a dull moment.
He's by far one of my favorite educators I've ever come across.
many mammals exhibit this behaviour. it is a reflex from when animals are young, and their parents would pick them up by the scruff of the neck. it causes them to basically go limp. very cool
Had them for a LONG time, thanks for stuff like this. Great pets. People need in depth knowledge of their little tricks.
You make me happy, like old RUclipsrs use to do. Keep it up man your getting bigger and bigger🎉🎉good luck and nothing but love 😊
No way, that ferret must be a paid actor.
Nope, its completely normal
It’s magical, even in peak zoom but their nails need trimmed, immediately from cat snake on crack to limp noodle, and back to cat snake as soon as you let go
@@lucastompkins8386I wishhh it works most times but my furrets don’t exactly like getting their nails trimmed
That’s also how cats work
no, and you shouldn't scruff a full grown cat like that. Ferrets actually have a nerve in their neck that makes them react this way. Them being light enough doesn't pose any danger to them. If you scruff a 10+ lb cat you're gonna choke it out.
please do not hold a cat by the scruff always support the whole body
Wish it was this easy with my chinchillas!
If there's no neck meat there, then what have I been eating?
hold up... AYO
Blasstois original comment was something about "it's not called neck meat, its called the scruff like grabbed by the scruff of the neck" in case anyone were to think my comment was weird, its only weird now because he changed his original comment. Thats the only reason. What
@@JacksonMack3742 I did? Haha.
@@blasstois I'll leave it to the Gods to decide
I didn't know how much I'd enjoy seeing a ferret yawn until today. Thank you Thor, thank you very much!
You are the human embodiment of a ferret in the sweetest way possible
That was my favorite thing about owning a ferret as a child. My friends never believed I could do that, and it always blew their mind when I would do it
Oh my god I wanna ferret lol. Yeah, they might stink, but their cuteness overrides that
Holding ferret normally: "Dang look at this! I'm so tall! Imma just explore!"
Holding ferret by the neck: "Mama?"
Just commented this too! ❤
just never hold them and pull up by the scruff. don’t put their weight on their scruff only it’s called too many animals to pass. you can hold the scruff while they’re laying down or standing with their weight fully supported. just saying this so people see this if they click on your comment!
I'm a vet tech. We had a client who loved kissing their ferret on the belly button. They thought it was so cute. It was less cute when we explained it's a penis not a belly button 😂 We never saw them again.
oh my god
this is actually really good. Big fan of the wave types being timestamped, really helps with just figuring out what kind of things can be done with even this rotation.
That's what I call the ferret off switch lol. I miss my ferret 😭
I’ve got two who crossed the rainbow bridge, we did our best for them and cherish the time we had
Just about all mammals have that little locking mechanism in place
I love everything about this guy, he's so wholesome and hilarious. Well deserved follow, and I haven't even followed someone in probably 3 years. Very well deserved follow.
Neck meat 😭😭😭 that’s called a scruff my man, hence the term “by the scruff of the neck”
Not everyone knows that word. He was extremely dumbing this down. He does his own research for all of the rehabilitation he does for the ferrets, he's extremely informed with those animals
@@benjordan1971 i know dude, that’s literally why i commented
This made me look up this musical and i unironically love it so much
This is called a scruff! Many animals have it, just some grow out of it like most dogs. Basically it activates a nerve in their body because it’s used by mothers to carry them they just go into ‘am baby’ mode, works with cats as well
Thank you so so much for posting this, I have two ferrets. A younger boy that looks exactly like him lol, but I also have an older girl. I recently found out she has cancer. And she also has hypoglycemia, and has been in a steroid for a while. I have to mix her meds into food, cause she won’t take it by syringe. And if my little guy ever needs meds, this is a life saver.
Imagine if parents could treat their children accordingly the same.
How can you not love this channel?😅
IMPORTANT! When scruffing them NEVER let their full weight hang without support! When they are young their bodies are built for it but it is a significant increase in mass when they are older and it can definitely be uncomfortable or painful.
So... a ferret is litterally a living beef noodle.
I love your ferrets! I used to have 3 myself.
Can i say i never seen a man who is highly knowledgeable in computer's and in coding languages and hardware stuff but also who is teaching this 👏🏻
This dude is my new favorite creator. I just found him like a week ago. 😂
I didn't realize ferrets had scruffs like cats, but it totally makes sense
just make sure to never pull weight from the scruff of a cat always make sure their body is supported only grab it when they’re laying down NEVER pull it to the point it’s tight around their neck. it’s really dangerous and lots of cats have passed from people scruffing them wrong
😢I still to this day miss Fanta. We adopted a ferret from Petco that looked like pineapple, fur was yellowish white with little black specks so we named her Fanta since pineapple was my favorite flavor. She died of Ovarian Cancer after only 6 months😔.
I love how I’ve seen this guys clips for a little over a year now and he has just solidified my dreams of getting ferrets and training them to hunt
Man I am a veterinarian and this can really help me in my work, thank you 😄
So what you're telling me, a ferret is basically a lowered suspension limo cat....?
it’s called a scruff. cats and and dogs have it, typically it goes away it in time but ferrets seem to keep it.
Why does this guy seem like an expert on everything
Thor’s very good at giving advice, but I love that he always does it in a way that assumes you’re going through the exact same stuff he is. It’s always “When you’re making a game” or “When you’re dealing with scammers” or “When you’re giving your pet ferret its medicine”
