@@FerretTubeTV I have 2 ferrets and have had them for awhile. One problem I’m having is everyone says ferrets love salmon oil but mine want nothing to do with it. I read that if you mix it in their food, they will grow a liking for it and that’s not working either they won’t touch the food. I don’t know what to do at this point, but I need something to get them to where they will stay still so I can clip their nails and stuff like that. I’ve tried several different ferret treats and they don’t like those either. Any advice would be amazing!

And if you search for 5 hours for them, and can’t find them? Check the top cutlery drawer in the kitchen…. 🙄 I mean REALLY! all the drawers were closed. I was looking for a teaspoon…did get a small fright.

One of the more important things you need to know is ferrets have particular dietary needs and most official ferret food doesn't do a great job. They need mostly animal fat and animal protein. Vegetable fat and protein doesn't do them much good. Check the contents of the pet food on the bag. If it leads with vegetable fat or protein its no good. If it leads with crude fat and crude protein you've got a problem. That means animal and plant products mixed together and obviously since they dont wanna spend money, it will be the bare minimum of animal meat to qualify as "crude". You are actually doing better to give them chicken scraps or something similar. That's what their stomach is looking for. Just cut the pieces tiny so they don't choke.

I used cardboard & duct tape to seal up small openings where they could get into. Make sure the duct tape is nice & smooth, no creases because their claws will catch on the crease & slowly tear it apart. If it's smooth, their claws will just glide over it without catching on anything. My 3 free roam 24/7. No cage at all. I've sealed up gaps around the fridge, stove, washer & dryer.
Great video! I had 2 ferrets growing up (Daisy and Stinky) and loved them so much!! They are so much fun, entertaining and loving! What you call the war dance, we called it popcorning because of the pop pop popping. 😂I had become pretty knowledgeable about ferrets while I had them, but there were quite a few things that I learned from you! Supercute! Ich hatte vor vielen Jahren auch 2 Frettchenbrüder und ich verliebte mich sofort in ihr Wesen. Ich nahm sie auf, weil sie sonst im Tierheim gelandet wären. Die Vorbesitzerin war schwanger und konnte angeblich den Geruch nicht mehr ertragen, dabei rochen die beiden Frettchen sehr viel besser als ihr Hund ... aber nagut, ich liebe den ganz eigentümlichen Geruch von Frettchen (dabei meine ich jetzt natürlich nicht die Stinkbomben, die sie nur hin & wieder mal verlieren, wenn sie kämpfen, oder sich erschrecken). Kein Besucher hat je am Geruch bemerkt, dass ich Frettchen zu Hause hatte. Kein einziger. Wenn man Frettchenkäfig & Haushalt immer sauber hält, dann gibt es kaum bis keine unangenehme/unerwünschte Geruchsentwicklung. Das gilt im Grunde für jedes Haustier. Ich habe viele schöne Erinnerungen an meine beiden Frettchenbrüder. Sollte ich in einer neuen Wohnung mal mehr Platz zur Verfügung haben, dann würde ich mir gern wieder diese süßen & witzigen Kobolde ins Haus holen. Bis dahin erfreue ich mich an deinen tollen Videos! @@FerretTubeTV Thanks for responding and I understand the arguments for getting more than one but I think I'm pretty dead set on getting a single one at this point, for many reasons. I don't think ferrets are like guinea pigs or rats where it really would be cruel to only get one, and I'm fully prepared to put in the time and effort required to keep an 'only ferret'. I'm going to give him a great life I promise :)
Brilliant, that is the main thing. Your little noodle will rely on your company every day, and the relationship you'll grow together will be really special. If you understand that, and how important your time will be to it, then the ferret will live a happy and full life with you 🥰🐾
I'm thinking about getting a ferret. I'll have 3-4 hours to play and hang out with it at my house. But how many rooms should it be allowed to free roam in? I plan to have its cage in my bedroom and have most of its playtime there as well, I also bought a harness and leash so I can take it outside every evening and morning. Im still a student and my day starts at 8:30 (leave the house at 8:15ish) I get back around 5:45-6:00 and I try to get to bed around 10:00-11:00 how can i fi enough time in for my ferret? I can not get two. By the way, your ferret with one eye is SO SO cute! It looks like he is winking all the time ahhhhhh!
haha, I love that description of Zoro winking 🥰 It sounds like you have a good plan in place. As long as there is a lot to do in your bedroom (things to climb and explore while staying safe) then you don't need to give them any more space to roam. Especially when you are walking them regularly. PLEASE do consider getting 2 not one though, as they will have each other to snuggle while you're away. Hey Joselyn, not for the foreseeable future I'm afraid because until I can build a new studio in Scotland, the ferrets run won't have cameras in it. So we're talking at least a year before anything live might happen. 😭

my sister is terrfiield of rodents, one morning I heard her screaming at the top of her lungs, I rushed to her room , she told me she had woken up , and found her self staring into the face of a ferret, right up close , it ran off , it had come through the cat flap :)
You might need to try a few products as they are all made with different base ingredients, and your ferrets might prefer something different from mine. But the one I use is in the linktree link in the channel description (it's an affiliate link so this channel earns a small commission from any sales that happen through it). If your ferrets are over 6 months old and have never had salmon oil, you might need to introduce the flavour slowly by mixing it with a little of their regular food or treats initially. I had 3 ferrets and none of them liked salmon oil. Egg yolk, and several things that were a given and nope. Turned their noses up to it. They were indeed weird ❤😂
Hi luv, you are mad. So good on you. Just what to do please. My 2 cats are not having fun with my Jim lad. He loved coming out and was always with me downstairs. Now he has to be seperate. How can I get my 2 cat laddies to stop bapping him when he tries to make friends,? I am upset that now my Ferret laddie is seperated from them. Can a cat ever be trusted. Btw I am against cage cruelty. Help. I am needing them to bond. X
I'm so sorry to hear that - ferrets really act like puppies, so not many cats will enjoy their company. Tell me, is it Jim Lad chasing the cats then getting bapped? Or do the cats come looking for him to be mean? If the cats would leave the ferret alone then you might be able to train the ferret not to chase the cats. Check out puppy training tutorials as ferrets can be trained in the same way as dogs (I'm going to tackle training mine this year so will post guides as I go along)... it might be worth a try. The other potential solution could be to make sure the cats have a comfy space where they can hang out in the room with you, that the ferret cannot get to (window sill or high shelf with nothing climbable to get to it for example), then they can just avoid the ferret.... Let me know how you get on! xx
They really are the epitome of chaos haha, We have learnt there is no such thing as ferret proof, they love to climb hoomans, cuddles and massages haha. Honestly they are such wonderful creatures, they really do bring so much joy. Im sure our 2 are in a braincell deficit with the amount they have run in to and fallen off things haha. Hearing dooks is the most fun thing ever, especially when they are happy dooking

That's a great question ask. If you have enough time to be a dedicated play and snuggle mate for it (or you have other pets it can bond with) for around 6 hours a day ideally, then yes it will be perfectly fine. But it will need that attention every single day for it's entire life, and that's a big commitment from the owner... the other issue with taking only one, is you will likely be separating it from its current bonded partner, unless it is one of the rare ferrets that are happier on their own. But they are very uncommon, and tend to be a bit a bit more closely related to their polecat ancestors, making them more independent and less playful generally I think. It really is so much easier to make a ferret happy if it has another ferret to be with when you can't be around.. I hope this helps.

They are literally designed to be adorable in pairs.. and watching them play together is the funniest part of my day. So honestly, if you can stretch to two, it will be so much more rewarding for both of you... 🥰🐾
It depends where you live. Here in the UK it's sold on amazon (search for 'salmon oil for dogs'). I get mine from a ferret rescue who make their own and sell it to raise funds to care for the ferrets: www.ferretbeddingbyjules.co.uk/scfr-ferret-oil
No, not at all as they will lick it off and it will be very bad for their insides... They should not need anything on their coat as they make their own oil from skin glands. You should not bathe them regularly as this will dry the skin. If you do need to bathe them occasionally don't use soap or shampoos... Just use plain water and put a couple of handfuls of non-instant oatmeal into a sock to soak in the water first. The water should turn milky colour... this is the best way to bathe a ferret without stripping too much natural oil from their coat. I hope this helps!! 🥰🐾

Many years ago we had a lady working in the office who kept ferrets. I told her I loved ferrets so on her last day in work she brought her ferrets in. I spent a joyful hour entertaining this adoreable furry tube with teeth. The other ladies in the office were horrified and complained for the rest of the week that the office stank of ferret. I really like the smell of ferret, far nice than dog and make no apology. I did think cats and ferrets would play together. Maybe it depends on the personality combination of the specific cat and ferret.
Haha, that is such a fun story. I think lots of people fear ferrets, and many are sensitive to the smell. I've noticed my boys are stinkier than the girls - but I also like the smell. My brother hates it 😂😂
I've learned a lot thanks. Until I live in a cooler climate the wonderful ferret is not for me. I'm away from home 11hrs a day trying to make ends meet in this economy so a cat that hates other cats is what I have. Do ferrets sleep with you, if so, do they let you sleep or are they nocturnal like my gray rescue attention hog?
Haha.. cats are so particular - I bet it secretly loves you 😂 Ferrets actually sleep for 18 hours a day, so they're one of the best pets if you're away from home that long daily. I would not sleep in bed with them though as they sleep very heavily so might not wake up if you rolled on top of them, which could be fatal. 😧 You need a secure, comfortable sleep cage, then make sure to give them at least 4 hours a day play time out of the cage.
First rule: Ferrets live to conquer so you can just believe you will control them Second rule: The moment you understimate a ferrets intelligence you are screw Third rule: Everything belongs to the Ferrets they just allow you to play with their stuff

Another lesson I learned: NEVER wear shoes around ferrets when indoors! You need to be able to feel when they are underfoot.

@@FerretTubeTV Thanks for responding and I understand the arguments for getting more than one but I think I'm pretty dead set on getting a single one at this point, for many reasons. I don't think ferrets are like guinea pigs or rats where it really would be cruel to only get one, and I'm fully prepared to put in the time and effort required to keep an 'only ferret'. I'm going to give him a great life I promise :)
Brilliant, that is the main thing. Your little noodle will rely on your company every day, and the relationship you'll grow together will be really special. If you understand that, and how important your time will be to it, then the ferret will live a happy and full life with you 🥰🐾

I'm thinking about getting a ferret. I'll have 3-4 hours to play and hang out with it at my house. But how many rooms should it be allowed to free roam in? I plan to have its cage in my bedroom and have most of its playtime there as well, I also bought a harness and leash so I can take it outside every evening and morning. Im still a student and my day starts at 8:30 (leave the house at 8:15ish) I get back around 5:45-6:00 and I try to get to bed around 10:00-11:00 how can i fi enough time in for my ferret? I can not get two.

haha, I love that description of Zoro winking 🥰 It sounds like you have a good plan in place. As long as there is a lot to do in your bedroom (things to climb and explore while staying safe) then you don't need to give them any more space to roam. Especially when you are walking them regularly. PLEASE do consider getting 2 not one though, as they will have each other to snuggle while you're away. Hey Joselyn, not for the foreseeable future I'm afraid because until I can build a new studio in Scotland, the ferrets run won't have cameras in it. So we're talking at least a year before anything live might happen. 😭

my sister is terrfiield of rodents, one morning I heard her screaming at the top of her lungs, I rushed to her room , she told me she had woken up , and found her self staring into the face of a ferret, right up close , it ran off , it had come through the cat flap :)

You might need to try a few products as they are all made with different base ingredients, and your ferrets might prefer something different from mine. But the one I use is in the linktree link in the channel description (it's an affiliate link so this channel earns a small commission from any sales that happen through it). If your ferrets are over 6 months old and have never had salmon oil, you might need to introduce the flavour slowly by mixing it with a little of their regular food or treats initially. Hope that helps.

I had 3 ferrets and none of them liked salmon oil. Egg yolk, and several things that were a given and nope. Turned their noses up to it. They were indeed weird ❤😂

Hi luv, you are mad. So good on you. Just what to do please. My 2 cats are not having fun with my Jim lad. He loved coming out and was always with me downstairs. Now he has to be seperate. How can I get my 2 cat laddies to stop bapping him when he tries to make friends,? I am upset that now my Ferret laddie is seperated from them. Can a cat ever be trusted. Btw I am against cage cruelty. Help. I am needing them to bond. X
I'm so sorry to hear that - ferrets really act like puppies, so not many cats will enjoy their company. Tell me, is it Jim Lad chasing the cats then getting bapped? Or do the cats come looking for him to be mean? If the cats would leave the ferret alone then you might be able to train the ferret not to chase the cats. Check out puppy training tutorials as ferrets can be trained in the same way as dogs (I'm going to tackle training mine this year so will post guides as I go along)... it might be worth a try. The other potential solution could be to make sure the cats have a comfy space where they can hang out in the room with you, that the ferret cannot get to (window sill or high shelf with nothing climbable to get to it for example), then they can just avoid the ferret.... Let me know how you get on! xx

They really are the epitome of chaos haha, We have learnt there is no such thing as ferret proof, they love to climb hoomans, cuddles and massages haha. Honestly they are such wonderful creatures, they really do bring so much joy. Im sure our 2 are in a braincell deficit with the amount they have run in to and fallen off things haha. Hearing dooks is the most fun thing ever, especially when they are happy dooking

That's a great question ask. If you have enough time to be a dedicated play and snuggle mate for it (or you have other pets it can bond with) for around 6 hours a day ideally, then yes it will be perfectly fine. But it will need that attention every single day for it's entire life, and that's a big commitment from the owner... the other issue with taking only one, is you will likely be separating it from its current bonded partner, unless it is one of the rare ferrets that are happier on their own. But they are very uncommon, and tend to be a bit a bit more closely related to their polecat ancestors, making them more independent and less playful generally I think. It really is so much easier to make a ferret happy if it has another ferret to be with when you can't be around.. I hope this helps.

Where can I get salmon oil
It depends where you live. Here in the UK it's sold on amazon (search for 'salmon oil for dogs'). I get mine from a ferret rescue who make their own and sell it to raise funds to care for the ferrets: www.ferretbeddingbyjules.co.uk/scfr-ferret-oil
Is it ok to use coconut oil on their fur
No, not at all as they will lick it off and it will be very bad for their insides... They should not need anything on their coat as they make their own oil from skin glands. You should not bathe them regularly as this will dry the skin. If you do need to bathe them occasionally don't use soap or shampoos... Just use plain water and put a couple of handfuls of non-instant oatmeal into a sock to soak in the water first. The water should turn milky colour... this is the best way to bathe a ferret without stripping too much natural oil from their coat. I hope this helps!! 🥰🐾

Many years ago we had a lady working in the office who kept ferrets. I told her I loved ferrets so on her last day in work she brought her ferrets in. I spent a joyful hour entertaining this adoreable furry tube with teeth. The other ladies in the office were horrified and complained for the rest of the week that the office stank of ferret. I really like the smell of ferret, far nice than dog and make no apology. I did think cats and ferrets would play together. Maybe it depends on the personality combination of the specific cat and ferret.
Haha, that is such a fun story. I think lots of people fear ferrets, and many are sensitive to the smell. I've noticed my boys are stinkier than the girls - but I also like the smell. My brother hates it 😂😂
I've learned a lot thanks. Until I live in a cooler climate the wonderful ferret is not for me. I'm away from home 11hrs a day trying to make ends meet in this economy so a cat that hates other cats is what I have.
Do ferrets sleep with you, if so, do they let you sleep or are they nocturnal like my gray rescue attention hog?
Haha.. cats are so particular - I bet it secretly loves you 😂 Ferrets actually sleep for 18 hours a day, so they're one of the best pets if you're away from home that long daily. I would not sleep in bed with them though as they sleep very heavily so might not wake up if you rolled on top of them, which could be fatal. 😧 You need a secure, comfortable sleep cage, then make sure to give them at least 4 hours a day play time out of the cage.
