Nice build. good looking kit. just for reference... the color you wanted when painting that was actually called Intermediate Blue (blue-gray) and sometimes called navy blue. Its The same color as sides of 3 tone painted WW2 navy planes, the over all color of early WW2 navy planes and over all color of USS Arizona.
Good show. Love all the comments which are all fellow hobbyists. I am very pleased with all the videos, reference photos online, aftermarket companies & the subjects put out by these wonderful model companies. I just wish the costs were not so expensive. I wonder about the thumbs down viewers. What are they expecting? These video reviews are really fun to watch.
Thanks Andy I really like the subject. Last summer while recovering from a bad accident and a broken back I took up model building after a 40 year hiatus. The first thing I built was Revell's LCM with jeep and trailer. It was great fun and the first of many builds some of them inspired by yours. Thanks for putting them out there. PS. I built the Big Bertha you sold me and it is an awesome model....It would make a good build video, hint, hint.
Glad to see military kits again Andy, and that relaxing music of course became your trademark. Welldone
+Lukas Giant thanks I'm glad you liked it
You're welcome. Thanks for the reply too.
It's amazing how cheaply these things were manufactured. I'm really surprised more soldiers didn't get killed. It took some real guts to do what these guys did.
I feel inspired I need to build one of theses for a massive Wargame I have planned
did you ever get that war game table built ?
Very nicely done. I'm looking forward to the Sherman and the overall diorama.
+burbdood thank you
Interesting diorama possibilities there.
Looking pretty good there Andy. Only two things I would have done differently: 1 - instead of using the decals for the diamonds and the "US113", I would have made stencils & painted them with hairspray under it ; 2 - I would have used gun metal for the scratches. 😉
Man! Almost every one of your videos makes me add another kit to my build list. I really do enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.
another awesome video Andy cnt wait to see the dio all done up looking forward to the next one
+Gilbert Lathlin Thanks Im going to start sherman in a day or two
sweet
It must be such a drag going in to work each day! Another great build video
+davie maclean thank you, it can be a lot of fun
Great idea for a diorama Andy! Very nice work on the landing craft as well!
+Marc Fraley Thank you Marc I'm glad you liked it
nice build! i once build a 1/72 version of it that came with a plastic diorama base. Made some custom beach obstacles and bullet splashes. :)
+paulusm07 Thank you, i remember that 1/72 kit it was cool
That reminds me of a (must have been Revell) 1/72 D-Day diorama kit with Sherman, 2 guys in a rubber raft, the I-beam obstacles, and lots of soldiers. I think it was called 'Omaha Beach' - I know there was one called 'the Merville Battery' with Germans, that I never managed to find. This was back in the late 60s or very early 70s. Back in my model-building heyday. :-)
Great looking build, about to build a dio myself
Nice work Andy. Looking forward to the Sherman vid.
+Sea Mingly thank you
Just visited your webpage would recommend to get paint and other things ex. Tweezers cutters etc. Has a great selection of stuff for modelers and is easy to use will get next model from here
I do love the trumpeter kits
+Jan Haayer They are nice
Great build, and glad to see an airbrush used instead of an artist brush makes for a better, more realistic paint job. However a lot of things should have been painted individually (usually while still attached to the sprues), just prior to assembly, as painting afterward is almost if not impossible to do after assembly for individual parts without messing up the whole paint job, and overall effect. Thanks for sharing.
Andy, I know you don't use primer but I have to protest your not using it with the PE and brass barrels. The paint is sure to scrap off at some point. If only it where made from steel or aluminum then scratches would look like chipping. Great build, as per usual, cheers
+Mad Cow Rebel hi,I have never had the paint come off before, but if it works for you definitely do it , thanks for watching
Best work friend
Amazing job! Now I'm on my way to my 1/48 KV-1 w/ Applique Armour XD
+BoonGamingYT thank you have fun
One of my favourite model subjects of all-time ever since Airfix brought out their 1/72 example way back in 1966.
You need to remember most LCMs were only used once, going into Normandy. As they were brand new, weathering would have been minimal.
Andy Richards but they were made way earlier and used for training
Weathering varies
I just completed this kit and I went minimal on the weathering. Where I concentrated the most was on the deck where the vehicles would have loaded and unloaded. I muddied and oiled that area up quite a bit, then used light rusting on the rest of the boat. I also added a wash to the life preservers to dirty them up a bit.
Not true. My Granddad was a Coxwain driving LCMs into the beach. Not only were they reused making several trips to the beach and back each day they were then repaired and used for the next invasion. His ship, The USS Achernar AKA53 landed troops at Normandy, Southern France, and Okinawa where on the opening night they were hit by a kamikaze. I have several of his old photographs of him next to his LCM when it was stowed on the deck. They were pretty beaten up at that time with evidence of several battles. So, no, they were not used just once.
Looks great! nice build
blue gray look good
Great Job Andy, see you soon!
+Joseph Mays Thanks Joe
Looking really good. How was fit and all that? Im hesitant to build some of the early trumpeter`s kit.
+Luftangreifer Fit was good no problems , and part count was low , wish they would go back to less parts on new kits
Luftangreifer
A great job, Andy
I find having different types of glue helps in some cases there is no replacement for the old tube glue. Testers
Terry Hildreth
Miserable EPA Took the Tallinn out of the model cement .
No pins on the front ramp . That's OK just jump over the side
That's what Sgt. Striker would do
Diamond & Rust ?
It looks sooo nice
+Pupsi14 09 thank you
very cool kit that be cool if it came with a Sherman
+Tyler Green yes it would
Very cool as usual 👍🏻😀👍🏻
+Ivan C Thank you
This would have been the ultimate full interior kit
Andy è Bellissimo!!!!!!!!!!
+971michele thank you
really nice, looking forward to the dio, want to see how your going to work with water. my Achilles heel.
+Clayton McClain thank you im going to experiment first haven't done water for awhile
Great job, as usual
+Adam K Thank you Adam
Nice work sir, really like how you build these model kits!
+Tactical Bricks Thank you I appreciate the kind words
+Andy's Hobby Headquarters No problem!
Mr. Andy; You're always educating me about things so I figured I'd reciprocate and edju-micate you a bit, since you do so many armored vehicles and not boats, or ships. The drivers position is called the wheelhouse, which in this case was lightly armored. The driver is called the Coxswain, pronounced Cox-in. He is actually, when underway, the Captain of the boat, and incharge of all personnel and equipment onboard, even ossifers, oops... I meant officers, LOL. Nice looking boat looks very life like.
Nice work !!!
+Alex Dudarev Thank you
Very cool Build I can't wait to see the rest of it. In the future can we please have a train build?
Hello Andy, can you tell me where from come both figurines, I cannot find... Thank you for all yours videos...
Hi Andy,
well you have completed another great kit. Are you going to place in a scene, or just on a base a some sort. I look forward to seeing the finished 'job' with the Sherman installed.
Great Job.
Les
+Les Thiele THanks , I am in the planing phase for the diorama, I have ordered most of the stuff and should start it soon.
Thanks for watching
I would love to see you build Tamiya's 1/35 Churchill Crocodile
great build :-)
+averagescalemodeler 77 thank you :-)
Just like LCVPs they were largely constructed from plywood, so keep that in mind when weathering them.
Parabéns!
I just completed this kit and utilized your paint ratio...I think you nailed it! This was my first "ship" of any type to build. Your tips in the video were right on the money and helpful. I since have started on the Italeri 1/35 LCI "Higgins" boat.
Very nice. I just "finished" a Higgins boat from Italeri (minus the 28 figures), and man, the rope on that one was annoying.
good job!
+Harrygames thank you
was just admireing ur nice wirk andy waa wondering if u only sell military models at ur store or other kind like (cars, suv) etc n where can i look at ur webstore thanks👍👍
+Ricardo Flores Hi yes I do andyshobbyheadquarters.com
Really nice done again. A little question, with what product do you use to seal the paint?
+Benoit Vanderzippe hi , thank you , I use lacquer clear coat usually Tamiya ts80 if available , if not just testors flat clear lacquer , thanks for watching.
HI Andy, wonderful video as usual, interesting model. I was having trouble with bonding some stowage that I painted onto the floor of a Hanomag. I was using Tamiya Cement, and I've heard that it won't bond properly if there's paint on the contact point. What can I use to bond painted parts? Or should I just glue it all down and paint it together? Thanks.
+Ethan Ton paint it together would be easier or use super glue
nice build and vid. :-)
Very nice, it would be good if you could get a British L.C.A. in 1/35 or even 1/48 but there are none out there
Excellent work. I love your videos..Question: If I built a 1/35 scale boat and I wanted to put a tank inside what scale would be used for tank. Thank you.
Quick question; I want to get back into model building after a 40 year layoff.
I used to build ships and airplanes by Revell, Lindberg and Monogram. Who do you recommend today? Trumpeter makes better model kits?
Thanks for your time.
What do you wanne build?
Hey Andy what would you get for Soviet WWII dioarama I narrowed it down to Trumpeter KV-1 and Zvezda IS-2
as a teen, I built hundreds of models. ($5.00 each at the time) buy prices sure have changed. I would love to get back into model building (I'm now 52) sadly I'm also a disabled Veteran (army) with 18 years service, and living on Army Disability Pay (aka dirt poor), which means it's less than affordable to buy everything again. (I do have a good airbrush compressor, and a crappy airbrush lol) but to buy all the paint needed and other painting supplies on top of the cost of the models makes it just too expensive. (if I could work, it would be different) I also live in the Country, and there is not a good hobby shop within a 4 hours drive (one way). it's really too bad. I really enjoyed building them in the 1980's. and these days, living with severe chronic pain, anytime you can occupy your mind for several hours or more, is time your no longer thinking about pain. (more effective than pain meds).
Made the mistake of falling asleep with the playlist on, Yep 6 hours of Eine Kleine Nachtmusik.....Holy Crap Its in my head like Scanners and I cant get it out.
wat did you seal it with btw
very nice job! Well done! ;)
+Toni G Castroviejo thanks part two will be up in a few minutes
Love that kit gr8 job how much is it andy?
please do a video for the tamiya hanomag 1:35 im planning on getting one so it would be nice if you would do one
Can you make a video of Tamiya's Jadgtiger? The early production tank model?
Do you send models on your online store to Australia? Please answer . If yes then I most likely buy a kit. Thanks
+James magnussen Sorry we don't ship outside the US
what airbrush are you using?
Hello1!! where can I find your store??
You switched out the machine gun barrels -- what were the metal parts you used for that?
\\][//
Just a comment for the algorithm.
Could you make it RC controlled?
These ships can be built just with sheets. The hull has no double curved shapes. Quite an interesting mass production oriented design.
Sorry I wasn't here my wifi went out:)
But anyways great build!
model master usn 5-O grey might be the color u want
What's the music you use in your vids ?
what do you use to seal your models?
+philip jones i use lacquer clear coat usually tamiya or testors
Andy need to correct you a little, LCM's were not used on D Day, well not in the way that you describe, the LCM's dropped off what tanks that were landed on day 1 some way off shore, these were called Hobarts funnies, and looked nothing like the Sherman you built, in fact the US lost most of theirs ( and the crews) because they failed to allow for the rip tides around the beaches, most of the armour came ashore via the mulberry harbours on D Day +1 and 2. The tanks would have got bogged down on the beaches in the shingle and the sand, lessons learned from the failed raid on Dieppe.
The actual color as per U.S. Navy spec is supposed to be "Haze Gray".
Correct. I served as an engineman in the early ‘70s on LCVP’s, Mike 6’s, Mike 8’s as well as LCPL’s and motor whaleboats. All painted haze grey. All of the landing craft on our ship (some permanent, some assigned to the ship for specific deployments) were WWII vintage landing craft. As I recall, the decks were painted a darker grey or even black. Not sure....it’s been a long time. 😉
Where can I get this model?
i myself would have put a Stuart with USMC markings instead of a Sherman but that is just me.
I thought the landing craft were almost entirely wood bodies. (making rusting pretty limited)
Yes.
Whst glue do you use?
Mitch Cowan it looks like tamiya extra fine cement
does it float on water?
Arvin Lienardi i wouldnt advise putting model kits in water...
Mitchell Hogg indeed but there is some ship kits that is motorized and can be played on water
Arvin Lienardi hmm...i can imagine them costing a fortune...
im buying one for this exact purpose, its really not hard to do... and costs next to nothing.
all it needs, receiver, ESC, motor, motor mount, propshaft, prop, servo, custom rudder, steering links and maybe a counter weight. And for working door, modified 1/10 crawler winch
and PS, those motorised model kits are generally the same price and the normal ones and maybe a fraction more in some cases.
I have the same thing as you
What do you mean with parts
do you have a eBay or Amazon account
I have a question, what is the name of this song?
+gumaromartinez456 Waltz of the flowers
+Andy's Hobby Headquarters Thanks
There are no blue LCU s WEST PAC 85, WEST PAC 88 WEST PAC 90
Did you forget to put the props on first ! .. lol
빨르다
the first color u use, how is? n the second?
Жаль, что сама модель неправильная. Она вытянута вверх! пропорции нарушены. Мерил - собирал эту модель. не собрал! Настроение пропало, перепиливать надо ВСЕ.
i think the plastic is not delicate
in my experience building a trumpeter kit, the plastic is a bit harder
Hey Andy, can you do the BR52 or BR86 Locomotives? please not many people do full builds on them.
I built one of these for my son. Amdnit actually is remote controlled. . There is only one rudder that. There is only one electric motorwith a prop. The small props rudders are glued and fixed
