- Hello and welcome
in this weeks video, to mark the 78th anniversary of D-Day I thought I would have a go at building this Air fix LCM MK3 landing craft and M4a2 Sherman tank, duel model kit.
As this is a vintage classic from Airfix, the model is in the rail way scale of 1/76th so its a little smaller than 1 72 scale normal for military aircraft.
All in all this kit goes together well but a few parts show there age as this kit was originally made in the 60's.There was lots of flash and clean up to do on this model strangely though the landing craft part of this kit was in much better and shaper state than that of the Sherman tank. My only thoughts on this was that perhaps the landing craft mould has been used less than that of the Sherman on and because of that its stood up to the test of time better. Also strangely the landing crafts plastic seems harder than that of the Sherman tank to, and not sure why this is either, the grey seems a little more white than Airfixs normal offerings
Over all though the kit is well worth the money, been skill level two, goes together well and is simple in its construction. If you where looking at getting this kit I would say go for it as its worth the clean up and makes into a nice model
That's my Review of the LCM mk3 landing craft and Sherman tank kit from Airfix
I hope you enjoy the video and found it helpful if you where looking at getting one of these kits Развлечения
Nice build and great detail work
Thanks mate 😊
Hi there a great looking landing craft and tank. Some great work and details to provide that scale realism. Great work. Take care and best wishes 😉😊😁
Thanks mate thought would be nice for June the 6th as well take it easy mate
Looks like you made a good job of this kit. It’s been on my radar for some time now, but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I want the LCVP as well so I have representative models of the various landing craft used by the Allies.
Yeah be nice to get the set so to speak, i need to get the LCVP but at the moment im trying to get all of the hobarts funnies done in 1:76 or 72 be nice to have that full d day line up though, with the troop one id want to have the full troop load in it so it really looked the part
Great old kit although im using dragon shermans with the LCMs for a british sicily landing dio and using the shermans in a Normandy dio with airfix cromwells as well
Nice are you going to base the models? im looking at doing a big cromwell model in the near future just been to the tank museum at Bovington and feel an armour patch of models coming on
Nice, and well timed too!
Thanks!
Well that was great fun!
I watched because I have not built any of these shall I say ‘secondary’ models and wondered just what they were about and you showed me and now I shall build some possibly starting with this very kit if I can find it!? And then get Airfix (club discount you see) to actually release it to me, they getting worse and worse!
Thanks

Glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful, the vintage models are fair kits, if you go online king kits sells a lot of pre checked second hand kits and often times it works out cheaper than the airfix discount. I have considered becoming a member a few times but I think im going to just save up the tickets till iv got a load of free kits worth and there is a good exclusive model
Lovely detailing makes the finished result excellent 👍
Thank you! Hope all is well your end mate
@@scalestuff1066 on holiday at the moment, sunny day today, but not expecting that for the rest of the week 🤣 I brought some wooden kits with me, just in case 😊
@@GrandadsOtherChannel very nice hope you have a good time.hahaha got to have them ready just incase the weather sets in
Nice
Cheers mate thank you
British tankers look so good
Thanks mate
Superb, i have mine to do yet
Enjoy mate its a nice kit when it all comes together
@@scalestuff1066 all done, nowhere near as good as yours
Mate I'm sure its grand and if it's not it's all learning and the next one will be better 😊
@@scalestuff1066 thanks dude, much appreciated
Very nice build, and fine result, but why wasting a figure in the steering cabin no one can see? and why glueing the tank into the landing craft? both models could be used separatly in so many more scenarios . .. there is no need to glue the tank into the LCM.
No idea tbh with why his even in the kit to be entombed like he is, with the gluing stuff in, I don't build that much 1/72nd scale armour and the figure would just end up lost, but I get your point on the uses for other things, I tend to make more scenarios and dioramas in 1/35 scale
The real LCM has no roof, and Airfix's old catalogues, with photos, shows no roof on the built model.
Awesome. Does the flory wash come off easily enough without a gloss coat?
On more smooth paints yes,it can get into the texture of tamiya matt paint though
I have a kit from when they were first introduced and a new vintage kit and they are both the same, only one says 1:72,the other says 1:76,it's got me beat, both great kits either way, but the same
Yeah I think they where marketed to train kit scale to start with and then to modellers but with only a few numbers difference the scale much different
Boat and tank kit in one , and only 10 quid too. I need one
For what you get,if you dont mind the flash cant really go wrong,be nice to make a d day scene with to
Not bad for a tenner
Deffo worth every penny
What color wash did you use for the boat?
This one I used flory dark dirt wash, its a clay based wash
10 quit??????? its about 20€ in germany XD.. ordered it yesterday .. its automn.. so its modelmaking season again ... :D
Yup only a tenner over here iv found some places some types of kit are drastically cheaper than other places, wonder why that is?
Ah deffo I'm going to the model show to stock up for the winter season
Can I put it in water
It does float but not likley to like it for long
@@scalestuff1066 last question how do I get the tracks to stay together
If poly cements not working, you can melt the pins with the end of a hot flat head screw driver, bulldog clips are good as clamps while the glue dries as well.hope that helps
@@scalestuff1066 thank u I will try this
