I'll share this with you and your subscribers. The way to put those rubber band tracks together and works on any of them. You get a sharp pencil point (or similar) and insert it in the "hole" stretching out the hole. Repeat with the other hole and then you should be easily able to insert the pin. The track material will shrink back to its original size. You can then melt the pins and or weld the whole seam, on both sides. My favorite "weapon" for this has always been a small flat head screwdriver. I'd really like to thank you for bringing back some memories of my childhood ! This was my first Airfix armour kit I got at my local "Five and Dime" in the 50's early 60's. I thought it was a wonderful kit and I bought the Sherman kit the next weekend. They cost 50¢ each !
Ahem. This exact Airfix StuG kit is the first kit I ever built myself. I was five and was in hospital for a long time. My grandfather visited me a lot and brought me, among other things, this kit (it seemed beginner-friendly, I guess). Had a newspaper over my lap in the hospital bed, put it together with some crude cement. If anything didn't fit well, I suppose I just put it a bit askew. No painting, obviously. I built lots of model kits in the following decade, but none that mattered as much. The StuG went missing when I was discharged, which was probably my fault. I missed it though. Soon after, my grandfather picked me up and took me to the hobby store, and I went home again with my second StuG. That one is gone now, too (it was 50 years ago!), but the StuGs have always seemed cuddly and friendly to me since then.
Your videos are astonishing, fantastic work!!!! I was born in 1960 and here in Italy every young modeler dreamed with Airfix kits. Now I still try to improve may skill most with 1/35 Dragon kits but watching this I always would go back to the basics of the hobby and having fun as those golden days. I noticed not all in this thread are able to understand that even an old and obviously far from the today standard kits can be turned in a very interesting work using the simplest tools , sorry for them. Thank you, thank you very much for your masterpiece works (this Stug is simply fantastic) and for supporting the hobby. Ciao. Luca from Rome, Italy
I too gave up trying to drill holes in the wheels. When I tried the gun barrel nozzel, the barrel broke. The M.G. for the shield can be found in the Airfix Reconnasance Set. liked this!
I tend to sew my tracks together with thin clear nylon thread. It produces a tight joint which allows me to slip the track over the wheels without fear of the tracks coming apart. Now, to be truthful this method I use is generally applied to 1/35 kits but I sure could be used on smaller scales.
You could try dipping a piece of sponge into the maskol and remove the excess on a paper towel, and dab it onto the kit. It gives a nice, realistic effect once removed - at least in my opinion. Keep up the good work - you've earned a new subscriber.
Hi Owen, it looks good. I like how you applied the winter camouflage and the brown pastels at the end really set off the whole model. I also like the trick you used with assembling the wheels and I will have to do that myself. This was another great video that I learned from.
As the video started I was thing of post that QK was going to build a kit older than him, then I released that kit was older than me! And I am old. Nice job.
I presume you mean they're not bending around the wing? You'll need some decal solution to fix that. I've read you can use vinegar in the meantime (but I've never tested it myself)
Yet another amazing video, I've been missing them a quite now. I've been busy in Archery. But I love to have came back to your channel! You are very talented I can say. Hopefully you had a great christmas and a happy new year! Love from Iceland -Björn Sigmundsson Iceland, Akureyri, 600.
Very nice Owen. Good to see you trying something different this time, I really do like the camouflage colour scheme you have picked, instead of the same camouflage each time. Also got to change it up sometime and experiment! 😃
In fhr last day I believe I've ordered about 10 models including the Ho229, Ju87, B17 and He111,and plus since my bday is in 2 weeks amazon here I come
For the next aircraft you should build the new 1/48 Airfix P-40B! It's an absolutely AMAZING kit with much detail, and I would love for you to handle a 1/48 model!
this is really helpful as im going to build the matchbox wespe kit but want to make it in a Russian winter whitewash thank you for this help its really helpful to a newby whos use to build these in the 80s but not to this standard
if you just stiple the maskol (like using humbrol 11 for chipping) onto the model you would get a better chipping effect. than you could add more to any areas as wanted.
So I'm relatively new to the modeling hobby, and I'm mostly interested in WWII aircraft; So far I've completed three level two 1:48 kits by Revell and haven't been very impressed by the quality. Two of the kits had severely warped wings and poorly molded pieces. Is there a different brand that you'd recommend? Awesome job on this kit by the way.
This is a well-managed model. I admire every time you're working on a unique brush on youtube. I can only congratulate !!! And I'd be really curious to have a 1: 35 dioramas how you do :) Sorry for any spelling mistakes and I'm Hungarian and it's all about google translator's work, once again congratulations !!!
I am planning on making a bunch of army tank models, and using toy soldiers to battle with them. What beginner models do you suggest to use? I have done model kits before, and I really don't like the snap together ones, though I want a beginner one. Also how expensive are those models, and how much time does to take to build them? PLEASE ANSWER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Thank you so much!
1:72 or 1:76 scale models will go together fairly quickly and easily, then depending on how much painting and weathering you do it could take a few days a model. Obviously if you work on a few similar kits at once you could speed up the process. The smaller scales tend to cost around £7. Have a look at Revell or Airfix or Zvezda
Hello Owen. Love your videos. What scale do you recommend for tanks in modeling? I don't have much space and I want to collect vehicles for dioramas and such.
I'd recommend 1:35 scale because they're more fun, however 1:76 will take up much less space. You can fit about four 1:76 tanks in the space you can fit one 1:35 tank
Hiya Quick kits, I'm doing a Revell 1/72 scale Avro Lancaster BIII and need some tips. Have you got any and can you do a timelapse video on it so I know what I'm doing. Thanks.
Since it's a latex product you can sit brushes in baby oil for a few hours and the maskol will swell and degrade, allowing it to be removed from the brush.
How well the paint sticks to plastic ? Right now i have regular acrylic paint and it comes appart when i scratch with my nail. Can i use special acrylic as primer and then paint with the regular one or is it just better to use the special one all the time ?
I'm a little concerned with the PVA glue on the antennas, in my experience it isn't very good for holding small parts together. Superglue would've been better.
Quick Kits awesome can't wait to watch it thank you very much for replying so fast also the tips in this video helped me to make my tanks look better with chalk brushing thank you
Great work just wondering... Why do you mostly build Airfix when most of them are of a poor quality? (This is my impression from your videos. I have never build an airfix model, I might have gotten the wrong impression)
DzeboVolodija I would agree with you about Airfix. I bought a Churchill tank 1/76 and it was a nightmare. The tiny wheels took me ages to sort out and the whole thing was not very good. But for the price they aren't bad I guess. But I never bought another. I now only buy Tamiya 1/35 scale.
Airfix give me a lot of free kits (this one wasn't though, I bought this), also I like their kits because they don't take too long to build which means I can fit them easily into a 10 minute video, their new tooled aircraft are great - their old tooling like this is bad :)
yshouldicar3 what paint do you use? if you use acrylic bottled paint give a clear coat after all painting if you're using rattle cans they should stick well.
I find the first coat of acrylic never sticks particularly well which is why I sometimes use enamels for the first coat. By the 3rd coat the coverage is usually fine though. If not, use primer :)
It was so the airfix millitary vehicles would be to the same scale as their double o gauge hornby trains. During the 60s they were shown as being double o rather than 1:76.
This one was pleasantly surprising I was expecting a similar situation to the T-34/85 you built a little bit back not to say that one was bad by any means just a bit to much minor problems and fitting issues for my taste

I think you can get it on Amazon. It’s far more expensive unfortunately

Unbelievable work. Thank you for supporting the hobby the best way, back to the basics and simplest tools!!

You're very welcome, thank you very much for your lovely comment Luca!
great way of doing the wheels using the pin vise. Will definitely pinch that technique!
You did a good job on that old kit. The worst part of the kit are the tracks. Nice video, well explained step by step process.
I too gave up trying to drill holes in the wheels. When I tried the gun barrel nozzel, the barrel broke. The M.G. for the shield can be found in the Airfix Reconnasance Set. liked this!
I've never built a tank... Maybe I should give it a go :)
nice looking build. I can't wait to see the next one!
Thank you! :D

Still one of my favorite builds you did.
Looks great, thanks for sharing and for the inspiration. It's a great day for model building!
Thank you, you're welcome!

man love ur videos ALOT CANT LIVE WITHOUT THIS VIDEO
Hi Owen, it looks good. I like how you applied the winter camouflage and the brown pastels at the end really set off the whole model. I also like the trick you used with assembling the wheels and I will have to do that myself. This was another great video that I learned from.
I'm glad you're still learning from them, and thank you!
As the video started I was thing of post that QK was going to build a kit older than him, then I released that kit was older than me! And I am old.
Nice job.
This video inspired me to repaint my Italeri T-34 into a winter scheme using the same technique
I never thought of using maskol like that- awesome job!
Thank you I'm glad it's given you an idea :D
For the older arfix models I uses a soldering iron to join the tracks before they are put on the tank. I did this with my Sherman 'calliope' tank.
Owen is there a method of applying the gun cover decals to the 1:72 Spitfire without it flying out?
P.S. I'm still a newbie!
I presume you mean they're not bending around the wing? You'll need some decal solution to fix that. I've read you can use vinegar in the meantime (but I've never tested it myself)
I had that kit when it was first out. Jeez; I'm old.
You can heat up a piece of sprue with a candle or a lighter until it strats bending and then pull it appart then you can cut out the lenght you need
Joshua sanders
Yes, that's what I do to make small gas tanks and exhaust pipes
Yet another amazing video, I've been missing them a quite now. I've been busy in Archery. But I love to have came back to your channel! You are very talented I can say. Hopefully you had a great christmas and a happy new year!

Thank you very much! Also Happy New Year to you too!
Great job, Owen, and a happy new year to you!
I remember building this as a boy nearly 50 years ago
R u a girl now, jk
very nice kraut tank, and wonderful detail on it!
Thank you!
+Quick Kits your welcome and Happy New Year
Amature Airfix Modeler Happy New Year to you too!
Very nice Owen. Good to see you trying something different this time, I really do like the camouflage colour scheme you have picked, instead of the same camouflage each time. Also got to change it up sometime and experiment! 😃
I'm glad you like the camo scheme! I agree. Thanks Izaak
For the snow effect maybe try using the hairspray chipping technique I’ve seen people do it but would not know if it would work
Good looking stug :) I need to try your techniques.
Thank you, I hope they work well for you
In fhr last day I believe I've ordered about 10 models including the Ho229, Ju87, B17 and He111,and plus since my bday is in 2 weeks amazon here I come
xboxgamer that’s a lot of planes to make
Frqom what company?
That Sturmgeschütz looks really good :-) very good job
Nice video, the camo looks great.
Thanks!
Wow very nice stug and i also learned new tricks thanks happy new year !
I'm glad you learnt something! Happy New Year to you too!
For the next aircraft you should build the new 1/48 Airfix P-40B! It's an absolutely AMAZING kit with much detail, and I would love for you to handle a 1/48 model!
Magma Man
The trumpeter one is better
Chin Chin The Dark Lord but WHY
Great job Owen, but this kit is from 1962 (not 1967).
I've put a note in the description :)
2 and 7 looks similar especially if the text is small
i got this kit for christmas and we've almost finished it
Hi Hugo! You're Dad said you had started it - best of luck adding the finishing touches
thx
Awesome! Superb video!! Harrier gr 1 next for me!
The JoshiBlob Show
Can't wait for that! Love your videos Josh! :)
this is really helpful as im going to build the matchbox wespe kit but want to make it in a Russian winter whitewash thank you for this help its really helpful to a newby whos use to build these in the 80s but not to this standard
Wash over with some acrylic black watered down, just to lift the detail shadows.
I like your use of maskol :)
Thanks I'm glad you do!
if you just stiple the maskol (like using humbrol 11 for chipping) onto the model you would get a better chipping effect. than you could add more to any areas as wanted.
Hi Owen, great to see you again. Happy New Year brotha.
Happy New Year to you too!
Great video!
Thanks!
very good job!
Thank you

Airfix have brought out some new-tooled 1:48 planes that I've heard are very good, Eduard also make good planes in that scale but they're more complex
Awesome, thank you so much! You videos are fantastic by the way.
Really good looks great
This is a well-managed model. I admire every time you're working on a unique brush on youtube. I can only congratulate !!! This Is A Very Old Kit..., I Have 2 From These, On The Inside Is 1962 Printed On..., I Think It Is A Good Kit For It's Age.
Build the airfix Cromwell tank, I heard it's a good kit!
I think you should make a video on how to add extra detail to kits that come with not much detail e.g. airfix starter kits
that is a really good build, will you try the Bf 109 from Airfix? that is a pretty good set in my opinion
I have it in my stash, both the G and E, I don't know when I'll get round to them though
Masterfully Built & Painted!!!! Bravo!!!! Was this kit an Original from 1967? Also, where can I purchase a "Pin Vice"?
Thank you! It was cast in the original mould but the platic is recent. I bought my pin vice from a local hardware store
you should build the Volkswagen Beetle airfix starter set!
Great work! Especially as it 8s such an old mould. Do you reckon you will do another 1/35 tank?
Awesome video!!!!

i had the same hindge pob with the panzer4 and tiger1
Hello Owen! @quick_kits I was wondering if you could do a time laps video on building ships this time. That would be interesting :)
I'm hoping to do a ship this year :)
Hello Owen. Love your videos. What scale do you recommend for tanks in modeling? I don't have much space and I want to collect vehicles for dioramas and such.

Hiya Quick kits, I'm doing a Revell 1/72 scale Avro Lancaster BIII and need some tips. Have you got any and can you do a timelapse video on it so I know what I'm doing. Thanks.
William Scott
On his Twitter he said he's working on a lancaster, not sure when it's gonna be up though
How do you use maskol without it drying on the brush and making it useless?
Will O'Connor using thinner to clean it would work
Arvin Lienardi cheers
I believe that before the maskol has dried on the brush (once it's dried, the brush is ruined) you can rinse the brush in warm water to get it off
Since it's a latex product you can sit brushes in baby oil for a few hours and the maskol will swell and degrade, allowing it to be removed from the brush.
How well the paint sticks to plastic ? Right now i have regular acrylic paint and it comes appart when i scratch with my nail.
Can i use special acrylic as primer and then paint with the regular one or is it just better to use the special one all the time ?
You might want to buy some acrylic primer to spray onto your model. Also make sure you stir your paints well before you use them
I got 33 kills with this tank in War Thunder
Fantastic Ghostastic it has way too much Armor
Assault gun
Ulf Knudsen ur mom
Do you ever do models of ships? I would like to see some ships and even maybe a display board for them.
I'm planning on doing one some time this year :D
I'm a little concerned with the PVA glue on the antennas, in my experience it isn't very good for holding small parts together. Superglue would've been better.
I need to get some superglue. I think it will be fine, I'm not going to be touching it
Quick Kits
Good to hear!
Cool vid
Sadly I only know of Airfix that produces 1/76 in the market no other brands does. They are mostly 72nd :(
Matchbox re-issues by Revell also
Older Fujimi armour kits were also in 1/76.
what paint is better: Revell or Humbrol?
Finished mine yesterday went together ok
can you give me any tips on paintint a avro lancaster bomber
I'm doing a video of the Lancaster this year, however in the meantime you might want to check out my video on How to Brush Paint Scale Models
Quick Kits awesome can't wait to watch it thank you very much for replying so fast also the tips in this video helped me to make my tanks look better with chalk brushing thank you

DzeboVolodija indeed but i hear news that most of their new kits was good for a small tank kit, i believe DML or trumpeter have better one
Because he is sponsored by them ..... Airfix even promotes his videos on there site . Free kits init
I'm not always given free kits, this one I bought with my own money :)
Airfix give me a lot of free kits (this one wasn't though, I bought this), also I like their kits because they don't take too long to build which means I can fit them easily into a 10 minute video, their new tooled aircraft are great - their old tooling like this is bad :)
always good
I don't know why but I love winter camoflage
Soothing as fuck. I really need get into kit building.
Are the 1:76 tanks good starters? Because I just bought one today
Hmmmn well built, but I don't think it snows in the desert!
c you make m3 lee from airfix?
I recently picked up a BAE Harrier GR9 and the paint doesn't stick to it very well. Got any tips?
yshouldicar3
Wash the parts with water and some soap, if that doesn't work, you might want to buy some spray primer.
Chin Chin The Dark Lord I should have said that I did wash them. I'll try primer next time
yshouldicar3 what paint do you use? if you use acrylic bottled paint give a clear coat after all painting if you're using rattle cans they should stick well.
Arvin Lienardi it's whatever came with the kit so I presume it's acrylic. It doesn't stick while the paint is wet. After is fine though.
I find the first coat of acrylic never sticks particularly well which is why I sometimes use enamels for the first coat. By the 3rd coat the coverage is usually fine though. If not, use primer :)
Good video
Thanks!
ON THE TRACKS, YOUR SUPPOSED TO ATTACH THEM TOGETHER BEFORE TRY THAT NEXT TIME MOUNTING THEM ON THE WHEELS!
TRY IT , IT WORK's !
from what you make black washes? (sorry my English can be incorrectly, because i am Polish)
I make my chalk washes like in this video (if that's what you mean?) ruclips.net/video/TinSfRd983U/видео.html
What paint do I use
Can you make some models from Italeri ? I like them and with you Art you use the Tanks Look Godly
Nice.
what is the pva glue water ratio?
About 2 water: 1 glue, test it first though bc I can't quite remember
Ok.Thanks
where can i get this model? i can't find it anywhere...
It's on Amazon and eBay, or at least it is here in the UK
Quick Kits oh ok.. i'm from Poland maybe that's the problem. Anyways, thanks :)
How long does it take for u to build these
+Jacob Thompson maybe an hour or two a day over the course of two weeks
Tamiya is soooooo much better than air fix in every way possible.
Duncan Pugh ik right
Duncan Pugh
Haha! Almost all the kits I built are tamiya, most of them are italeri reboxes though.
Hobbyboss tank models are also really good
But they have a lot of small peices
Imperial Yamato i argue extremely
I Made a 1/76 Sd.Kfz 124 Wespe
Great it looks really war weary and dirty :)
Thanks!
New video!!!!! Ahhh!!!!
I don't know why Airfix insist on making things in odd scales that no other company uses. Nice build though.
It was so the airfix millitary vehicles would be to the same scale as their double o gauge hornby trains. During the 60s they were shown as being double o rather than 1:76.
i accidentaly broke the gun and had to glue it backtogether
Yay new video :D
And an amazing, helpful video at that
Thank you!
This one was pleasantly surprising I was expecting a similar situation to the T-34/85 you built a little bit back not to say that one was bad by any means just a bit to much minor problems and fitting issues for my taste
Yes this one was definitely much better than the T34 :D
The most overpowered tank in War Thunder
