Loved this game! We used to play this during Intro to technology class on the school Pc's. I hope a cell phone version can be made. I would totally buy! Gotta love the 90's!
Goddamn I loved that game. Awesome memories of sitting at the old IBM 8088 pc, home from school on a snow day, racing and modding cars for hours on end. Those were the days. Sigh.
I remember we had this on our school computer and they let us play this when it was too cold or too rainy to go out on recess so all of the boys gathered around to play this :D
Nope now I know for sure this is actually the game not the 89 version. This is the game of my childhood and boy was it special. Losing on pink slips hurt so bad though not gonna lie, I broke a few mouses. I was very young like 7-8 years old but played this game for years.
this game was way ahead of its time back in the day, all the upgrades, different challenges, cars, they way you buy and sell parts. it was and is supper fun to this day.
oh the memories. I played so much of this when I was a kid. I remember I found a glitch when you sold your car you could immediately enter several zero's and get a bunch extra $$$.
AHAHAH .. .when I saw you on StreetRod 1 , I thought , what about the 2? You are perfectly right, Street Rod 2 is much more difficult than one because of the Mullholland. ;)))
I had to take computer class in middle school. Nothing but learning. And this game! We got to play this game on a Rotation on Friday! Thank you teacher! Now I have a skill with hot rods not with math or English
For a long time I thought the song at 8:50 was Sweet - Ballroom Blitz, but recently I've discovered it's Stray Cats - Built For Speed. Anyways, this was always one of my favorite childhood games. 😁
Dang, thanks for posting, they had this and Oregon trail on my middelschools computer system back in the early 90s, they tried to get the babe in the skirt in the opening picture and the calender girls removed from the game, but couldnt, so then they took they game down. But some computer savy kids kept reinstalling it. Then they just only let us play this if we were done with all of our work. As a Vette guy i loved the black c3, not sure if i ever beat him though..
Always dreamed they would do a remake. Never understood why others didn't copy it and modernize the concept because it's simple and the car building and pink slip etc was super addictive. Still playable today. Imagine a version with today's graphics.
Someone started a more 3d version as street rod 3 but never completely finished the game. It can be played is more in depth with the engine building but they never finished it
Man I always thought the same, this would still be a great game if someone just updated the graphics. Actually more in-depth engine building sounds fun too :)
The problem is all mistake the concept and fall in complex mecha or tuning and the real addictive concept are the immersion feeling, going to bar, to gas, feeling interact with others like you, feeling read press, feeling buying cars
Think about NFS Underground which used a somewhat similar concept only with less mechanical stuff and more modern cars. Then there is Gran Turismo (used/new cars - even oldtimers, buy parts, oil change, messing with the setups, racing, etc) but yeah, neither caught (not even tried) the exact same "old california feeling". Imagine an NFS Underground 3. if it has the same setting, same classic cars and music from that era but with nitrous and police presence. It could be called as "ProStreet Rod". :)
The Big Box version of this goes for good money online it comes with the five and a quarter floppy and the 3 inch floppy however the small box version is also extremely rare only comes with the 3in floppy and you cannot even find one on eBay or anywhere for sale I've only seen it one time its legendary.
I used to finish this, and prequel multiple times back in the day on original hardware. But when I tried on emu recently, I just cant seem to get the controls. It is hard to play with the mouse. Maybe I should get the controller working with WinUAE ?
I really enjoyed Street Rod 1 but always found Street Rod 2 to be too difficult. When I would try a Mulholland drive race it ended just like yours did.
i was wondering that too when i played this race! i was like noo! now im going to crash! but i guess i drove just on the edge of the hole! and suddenly before i noticed that hole i turned steering wheel on left all the way..
@@checs isnt it the other way around? dont you need to make your time or lower? i remember that you couldnt go faster than your 1st run. I can be mistaken.
oh you're so right. I was writing half sleep last night. First run fast as you can. Then the other ones must be slower. I ussually wait some seconds on the green light while watching my rival go, then push the gas without hesitating.
I remember playing this for hours in the computer room at my grandmas. Seems like a lifetime ago
My childhood in a nutshell. This and stunts.
Stunts was the best game growing up, this game was pretty good aswell, but stunts and being able to make your own tracks and loops etc, good old days
You lived in a nutshell?
@@fcukugimmeausername It was a 90's fad
@@andrewr681 Stunts imo was the best racing game in the era until 1998 with NFS3. Stunts aged so well, is still one of the best of its genre.
I'm 21 and this is my childhood
Loved this game! We used to play this during Intro to technology class on the school Pc's. I hope a cell phone version can be made. I would totally buy! Gotta love the 90's!
Quite after a few years, but you can totally play it on mobile via dosbox emulator (both android and ios got one that works great).
My boss be catching me at work playing this if it was an app
For real.. playing this when I was 8 got me into cars.
It's obvious this is an old game, but for a 27 year old game, the graphics are actually pretty good. I miss playing this game.
This game needs a remake
@@RussoSkateI fear it would be horrible and overdone. The simplicity and execution of the original made it a classic!
@TerryDZ28 if it were around 2008 then yeah I would be worried if they remade it 😂
Now with remastered 2D graphics would be amazing.
Goddamn I loved that game. Awesome memories of sitting at the old IBM 8088 pc, home from school on a snow day, racing and modding cars for hours on end. Those were the days. Sigh.
This game was super cool. The vehicle customization feature was quite innovative for the time!
Here you have the origins of NFSU2!!! LOL
One of the best DOS games of all time
It is the best DOS game ever :)
I remember we had this on our school computer and they let us play this when it was too cold or too rainy to go out on recess so all of the boys gathered around to play this :D
Fight over the computer I'm sure
Spent hours playing this game! So cool you have a video of it. Brings back some good memories.
As a Young Bloke, I adored this game and it's 1st iteration got me in... Brought back alot of memories. Thank you
the driving sim part suffers from early 3d
but this game is more about building up the car and that holds up well
Totally, still a great game you can have fun with (+ street rod 1). For it’s years, holds up great.
Press F to pay respects.
Used to play that in my young days... Good memories!
watching this with nostalgia in 2020 when all of a sudden your name is my name.
Brings back so many memories!

Holy shit I wasn't expecting that ending.
What happens?
Lol omg yep I finished it
Miss this game wish there was something like it today
CSR Racing for your phone is about as close as you'll get. Still doesn't compare though.
Pixel Car Racer is there, I suppose. You could also emulate the game using DOSbox

I love this game so much. Gonna play those tunes on my guitar man.
Use to play this in the library at school when I was a kid
I loved it back in a day, perfect game!
A man I remember playing that for hours upon hours.
Haven't played this in years. The trick was to sell your car and decline the first two offers then sell it for $22001.
I always hear runabout Sue in my head when I play this
Wow I remember running this on my first pc running Windows 3.1!
Never got to hear this as a kid with either adlib or sound blaster. Sounds way better than my old pc speaker rofl
One of the best games in the past :D

What website did you download it on I can’t find one
it's officially released freeware.
Street rod was unreal. My brother and I played the crap outta that…
Hollywood will make a movie of this game
I'd say it's beetween American Graffiti and The King of the Mountain
Anyone know where I can download this for Linux ?
And not many people know that it was a Polish game :)
Wov, congrat from Hungary!
Polish people made a lot of good games
Respect from Uzbekistan
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 Connections? It's simple they were talented. Polish engineers were well known from the good side in USA from early 70s..
there's a great story about Lucjen Daniel Wencel and Karen Lee about this.
Pixelated graphics are so appealing.
Absolute classic! I played this for months at a time! If I remember correctly, the boss was the guy in a black Corvette. He wasn't easy to beat lol
That was Street Rod, this is Street Rod 2 which I found impossible.
This was my favorite game
Don't think I ever did win a Mulholland Drive race. And always liked the Dodge Charger.
they don't make 'em like this no more, sadly
i never could cross the "white" part of the road on de mountains track... what was the trick?

Start with a slow first run (the one you do alone). Next ones must be faster than the first one, and always winning the leg.
