Some quick tips i wrote down watching this video idk it might click for someone so i share them
-Keep your weight and shoulders straight Dont lean forward
-Keep your foot angled not flat
-(Trick tip dont try to change everything your body does, adjust to what you do naturaly)
If you can do it one time you can do it as many times
    -Pop straight down(make contact)
    -Pop vertical
    -Find what works for you
-Bring your knees up (try to jump higher to give it more airtime)

Its 100% the jump, your scoop is fire, ur flick is fire, your setup and stance are fire, its literally just that u dont put enough into your jump, and by jump i dont even necessarily mean "jump", i mean u dont bring ur knees up high enough and keep them there, its a hard habit to break and it feels uncomfortable when u first do it, but after a while it becomes natural muscle memory. It's not that your back is weak, it's because you lack hip flexibility and because of that you have to lean over your board to compensate for it. If you'd stretch and work on your vertical you'd be golden. Honestly at this point I'd just tell you to stick to hips and euro gaps. Everyone you landed they all were barely 3 inches off the ground. Cheers to another year of doing the same thing hoping for a different result.

you're not jumping high enough!! tres aren't about power they're about finesse, you're focusing too much on putting oomf into your scoop, and it's taking away from your vertical height. when you scoop you should be on your way up of the ground, this makes the scoop "scrape" across the ground much easier and the board will rotate 360 with much less power.
to be clear: when you scoop you should be on your way up off the ground, not just on your way up from bending you legs. scoop when you're waitless from your upward momentum NOT when your still basically on the ground. what it'll feel like is keeping your back foot hanging around for a while scooping while the rest of your body is going upward into the air

Taking skating and health seriously when I was younger was my downfall. I did Muay Thai for six years(29-35) and now, I'm learning and landing tricks I never did or even tried. It's all about physicality too. Not that anyone a certain size can't skate at all. But gravity and physicality play a big role in big tricks like 3flips or even just a simple high ollie.

I think it's not a proper squat (your bending with your back and end up compensating forward to not fall) so it makes jumping inefficient and tense. It's kinda what Maurio was alluding too when he suggested to load straight down and stay on top of it. Also, check out what muscles do what, the glutes, hip flexors and core are super important, If everything goes into the quads and hamstrings too much it can make you too tense to have fine control of the board.

At a certain point, no amount of instruction will help you, you have to figure out your own body and how to manipulate it properly internally. Fundamentally it's just being able to combine the proper scoop WITH the proper jump. It's one thing to know what to do, it's another thing to actually get your body to do what you know needs to be done.

tighten them trucks a bit, so you don't have to focus so much on balancing. also try to over spin them consistently. just want you to scoop it quicker. one thing that is hard with tre flips is your shoulders want to turn because you scoop. i feel like you have to be light on your back foot until youre actually about to pop. tre flips dont need a hard flick to flip, 90% scoop 10% flick so your front foot can be a bit more in the middle of your board for balance.

for tre flips i don’t even think about flicking. i just think about scooping, jumping, & extending my front foot to catch the tre. not anything crazy but catching with ur front foot stops the rotation and makes it easier to land/catch. it’ll give it that extra like half of a flip & ur back foot will do the other half flip/360 shuv. also keeping most of ur weight on ur back foot & staying over the board helps like he said. i find sometimes too if i’m not getting the rotation hanging my back toes off more makes it way easier to scoop & get the full 360 faster

So I think I found out something that would help you. Try some with your front foot more in the center of the board. Like between the bolts. When you have it so far back, it makes balancing harder and also kind of dampens the pop.
Also try to stay as stable as you can before you pop. That little last minute foot squiggle seems like it’s half of your issue.

I'd add that you're not timing your pop very well. This is a very popular issue with trey flips
You have your foot positioned quite well for a scooping pop, but then at the last moment you're not actually scooping. You're doing more like a flat pop, that is why it doesn't do a full flip
The secret is getting the board to pop with its edge. You accomplish that by adding tension to the board with your stance, better timing AND jumping higher at the moment of pop

    • @localjoe

  • @Dankquidity
    @Dankquidity 11 месяцев назад

Hey Local Joe, I've been watching your treflip videos and I noticed a couple of things that stood out to me:
    1. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from watching your treflips, it looks like you're using more of a knee-bend to generate that rotational power. That is, you're kicking your calf behind you to try to generate that 360 degree rotation.
In my opinion (and personal experience), the rotational power of the treflip doesn't come primarily from that knee-bend (calf kicking); but rather, it comes from the flicking of the ankle.
For example, check out Nyjah Huston's treflip here: ruclips.net/video/yyI_QzVNsCM/видео.htmlsi=wkNgGOw9dr3e1HKB
Look at how little his back leg bends at the knee. His entire back leg is almost stiff straight. He barely kicks out his calf. But then look at his back ankle - you'll see that it's flicked out almost the way. That's because all of that rotation power is coming from his back ankle flicking.
Of course, not all pros have a stiff back leg (e.g. Mark Appleyard, Rodney Mullen), but I'm willing to bet that all of them generate most of the rotational power from that ankle flick.
    2. I noticed that you have a tendency to not pop your treflips - I get the impression that you're sort of rushing the motion of the backfoot. It's like you're a bit too concerned with the rotation, and not the pop. Sometimes, you press down on the tail halfway, but then immediately start trying to rotate the board even before the tail touches the ground.
I think you need to slow down the motion of your backfoot, even by just a few milliseconds. It might not seem like much, but I can assure that it could potentially make all the difference.
I think you should deliberately think about getting that tail to touch the ground first, and only after then, think about doing the rotation. Consider popping and rotating as 2 distinct steps that happen sequentially one after the other, and not as 1 blended motion.

Great vid! Love seeing the content.
Personally I don't think you have to jump that high for a Tre flip. I think you're getting it but maybe all the adjusting is throwing you off. Maybe do 3-5 that you just land, then do 2 that you try to style? When I learned Tre flip for a while I just took the ones I could get, after I felt comfortable landing them I started to adjust my feet for more pop, and style.
I also think a Tre flip requires some flick. If you watch videos of people doing them you can see the front foot stabilizes the board and when they pop it's into the front foot like it helps balance. At 6:16 when Maurio does a Tre flip you can see he is centered, then when he pops he flicks a little and transitions his weight towards his front foot.

Yeah man what’s missed in a lot of these comments is the fact that you can do a tre flip several ways. When I was young I learned tre flips with quite a bit of flick and did not do the whole monkey grip thing with the back foot. Now I do them primarily with the back and basically no flick. You definitely do not need to jump or pop high to do it. A lot of commenters don’t skate!

I think that you don’t believe that you can do a tre flip the straight up way like he’s trying to teach you. You have a mental block that’s subconsciously telling your body to do that leaning wind up tre flip motion that causes you to jump forward and at an angle.

front foot is way too far back (which is why he tic-tacs) and you can see joe stops lifting his heel whenever he under-rotates the scoop. fix those and lift the legs up more n he’ll have buttery tre’s on lock.

POP is not BODY HEIGHT. it’s not the trick technique it’s lack of body to board height. the grunting! 😂 don’t forget to stay light & floaty. throw your arms to jump in a slow floaty motion. & If you don’t breath correctly & relax you cannot jump as easily. most of what screws up tre flips is not getting up and off of the board to let it flip.

So true I find no one talks about controlling your breath in skateboarding. When you hold your breath you tense up and lose power, when I exhale as I pop my tricks seem to work better.

Dude youre awesome and i have a lot of respect for you but if you want high threes you gotta lose some weight. Its making it so much harder for you. And stop comparing your success to others compare it against yourself. You do so well and you tend to put yourself down in front of the guests you have on. You earned where you got to with tons of work. Have respect for that.

your feet are too close together. your front foot is on the board for too long, therefore it initiates kickflip rotation while preventing kickflip rotation if that makes sense. See how Maurios feet are further apart giving him much more stability and control.

Interesting comments regarding the size as these shoes really inside raw inside meaning there is much more space for feet so taking one size down can event fit better. We could also hear how materials squeak like no other shoes

everytime you land it its not beacuse that little move you do its because you put your hole wheight on the front foot. The key is that you have to stay balance on your front foot yhe one that flicks.

Put you front foot on the board more, the kick flip in a tre flip comes from the side of your foot, not the toes as a kick flip would.

Joe, as someone much older and heavier than you. I relate to the tre flip struggle. On lock one day, and then can’t buy one the next. Mario was right about you upper body position. For me it’s arms. If you’re too focused on what legs and feet are doing. Then your upper body does odd movements that’s throw you off. For me sometimes I have to hold my arms out Karate Kid style before I pop. It probably looks dumb, but it makes me aware of where they are. And keeps them from flailing around. Then I start landing tres with consistency. I hope this helps.

It’s him.. he’s grunting and trying so hard it’s messing him up.. I wish he would try to relax a bit more and not be so tense and worried about every little “hack or cheat” and just crouch down and just send it. I feel like when you get so in your head and try analyzing every little thing you lose your ability to do the damn thing.

Your 9th and 10th tre flips were solid. If Maurio says it’s good, it’s good. You need to learn how to be more satisfied with your results, or it’s going to be even more difficult to reach your goal. It’s a mental game first and foremost.
