THANK YOU for this! At Quaker City Motorsport in Philadelpha, PA, USA recently, they had a 2018 Classic 500 like the one you rode. It had 10K-20K miles on it; I can't remember for sure, other than the mileage was in the five figures. In the photos, the bike looked good. HOWEVER, they were asking $7,000 USD for it; that's $1.5K-$2K MORE than it sold for new! Even so, the bike was off the dealer website a week or so after it went up. RE Classic 500s don't often go up for sale here; when they do, they don't last long and they sell for a pretty penny. I'd thought about getting the Classic 500 when they were made here a few years ago, but for some reason, I didn't. I was riding two scooters at the time ('04 Honda Helix and a '11 Suzuki Burgman 400), so I wasn't sure I wanted a bike. I figured that, since Royal Enfield made the Bullet for decades, they'd make the Classic 500 for longer than they did. Unfortunately, they didn't; the Classic 500 has been gone for 2-3 years here in the US. I didn't think I'd be able to get a Classic 500 ever. SO! When RE brought back the Classic in the form of the Classic 350, I was happy; I was relieved that, if I wanted, I could get a classic RE. When I heard it was based on the Meteor 350 that I own, I was even happier; I was thrilled! I know how much of a gem the engine is, and that's reason enough to be happy that it's used in the Classic 350. When I heard that they used the same frame and brakes too, that sweetened the deal for me. RE used different styling, and they went with a bigger rear wheel, so even though it shares much with the Meteor 350, it has its own character, its own feel. As for vibration, I know I didn't want that. I once owned a 1982 Honda FT500 Ascot, which had a big, single cylinder engine. Though it was a light, flickable bike, that sucker VIBRATED LIKE CRAZY! After an hour or so on the bike, I felt it. The old Classic 500 sounds like it shares that with my old Honda. For that reason, I'm glad I passed on the Classic 500-both then and now. I'm anxiously awaiting the Classic 350's arrival here in the US. When it comes, I plan on getting myself one. I like that it has the classic, old school looks of its ancestor, but I'm also glad it doesn't vibrate like my old Honda did. Anyway, I CAN'T WAIT! I'm fancying a Chrome Red Classic 350... :) Anyway, thanks for this comparo between the Classic 500 with the UCE vs. the Classic 350 with the J series engine from the Meteor. It confirms for me that I made the right decision. Cheers!
After living with the build quality of my 2020 Classic 500, I cant imagine how much time people would spend at the dealers if they couldnt fix stuff themselves. I personally dont understand the want for a classic look without the classic feel. 500 all day long, not least of which for the sound. Thats just such a distinct sound. It makes me happy whenever I hear it, even the stock sound from someone elses bike
Yeah i see what youre saying mate! I love the classic feel but i do see the appeal of a classic looking bike that rides like new for the people who use it as an every day commute since our classic is a weekend bike for fun we love the roughness and vinrations but riding every day i would prefer the 350! Cheers for the comment!
@@roadblastmedia I used to daily my 500 into the Sydney CBD. One of the best things about this bike is that I reack its limits WAYYYY before I reach my own limits. Ive worn a hole in the rear brake lever as it scrapes around hard corners. And got consistant 18.9s 1/4 mile times at Eastern Creek. But that was so slow because I still had on the panniers and rifle scabbard, and because Im a fat cunt. I love my 500. Its my dream bike. Now Im working from home 100% of the time, the bike is a weekend ride. You are right. Thats what it should be. But its the quality that lets it down, not the vibrations.
Most RUclipsrs have a catch phrase at the beginning and/or end of their videos. Your sign-off should be something like "Thanks for watching and don't forget to cancel those turn signals. See ya next time mates." 😁 OK, sorta being funny, but that is certainly not a bad habit to have. I drive for a living and I know enough to not always believe turn signals all the time, but another not so wise driver may see you coming and believe you are going to turn when you simply forgot to cancel that signal who knows how long ago. Could get ugly, right? Stay safe mate. Oh yeah, another quality video RBM!
Haha cheers tom still cant quite kick the habit 😆 but i might use that the original subscribers will understand it and think its quite funny! Hope youre well mate and enjoying that beautiful interceptor 650!
I'm a yank who just received an '08 500 Bullet. Love everything about it, BUT... I would love to know how to DISABLE the side stand kill (safety) switch!
Cheers man its my Parents place sadly I dont live there anymore I moved to the south island of NZ and bought my own cozy home! The 1000 subscribers special video i did a while back has a tour of the shed though 😀
As always a good video from you 👍 I really love the look of the 350 in halcyon Black 👌 I would love to have one just for Sunday rides 🤔😋 Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰
I have a 2018 RE 500 Stealth Black and have done 30K KM. It's an absolute joy to ride and you will never feel tired. Suggest not to make too much of the vibration because actually it's not too much. The 350 can never match the ride quality of the 500 no matter how modern it evolves into.
Yeah, I concur. My '18 Battle Green Classic 500 is very comfortable to ride, just don't flog it beyond what it is meant to do! Keep it at 60mph and under and it just chugs along without hardly a buzz felt anywhere. Any single cylinder bike, when hammered into the higher revs, WILL buzz...it is simply physics. Pick the right bike for the mission and all is well. I have a BMW R1200RT for hitting the highway and covering miles but it is not at all the same kind of pure joy on the side roads like the Classic gives me. These little bikes are just a total hoot to ride and every motorcyclist should experience one.
Great video vin, Both bikes look great & sound great I personally prefer the 350 ideal for city riding(Being from London uk!) I actually prefer the look of these bikes a a single seat too! Keep it up mate!
Thank you for your video... I was hesitating about classic 500 and classic 350 ... thank you for your explanations and sensations...tips...I agree with you 350 it's idean model for every day... Long life your channel 🙌 🤠✊🏻 Full Throttle 🏍💨 the Royal
Nice mate the chrome red looks great! Was that the one they had in the show room? They were saying it sold before it even hit the floor im guessing that was you? 😃
After 10,000km everything smooths out on the C500.. Oh and what tacho? Changing the pipe and air filter makes the bike run a lot better, also replacing the OEM relays makes a difference too.. I replaced some of the lights inside the speedo for LEDs.. Now I can see the indicator and neutral lights.. Apart from that.. I love my Classic 500 Desert Storm..
Great review, thank you. I would go for the 350cc because: 1 - Motorcycles looks the same, so classic feel is there, almost the same. 2 - The 350 engine note is fantastic. 3 - The 500 was known because it´s poor reliabilty, while the 350 engine in the Meteor is proven as a millage eater.
Interesting about the vibration on your 500. I bought a new 500 in January, got just under 2000 km on the clock and wasn't too easy on it during run in and have virtually no vibration. Used to get numb fingers on me Triumph America, but not on the Classic.
Im meaning more compared to other bikes i have ridden its by no means bad i actually feel it adds to the character of the bike it is mainly felt through the foot pegs though the hands arent so bad gotta love the 50p though mate cheers for the comment!
Hey Vinnie good one I like them both for different reasons but if push came to shove as they say I would probably come down the 500 classic both bikes look awesome though great watch mate well done : )
Hi man, thank you for the perfect evaluation of two "different machines" I follow more reviews and ratings of ROYAL and your style is great ... I would like to buy RE CLASIC 350 from us in the Czech Republic. It's my dream ... stick and most importantly Hello. You helped me make a decision. I greet you Rob.
It’s my understanding the Bullets engine gets smoother after break in and a few miles. I just bought a Military Green RE 2007 Bullet 500 with sidecar. I’m having a bunch of work done and complete rewiring. I may flip it for an Interceptor or Himalayan. Keep up the great work. 👍👍👍
Cheers mate our one already has 4000km as we bought second hand theres always going to be some vibration with a large single cylinder i love how rough and rugged it is though makes it what it is!
I felt the new Classic's rider footpegs are set higher than the old one to increase the ground clearance. And it does affect the comfort by a fair margin for people more taller than 5'8 (I'm 6'1 with a history of lumbar spinal problem). I felt lot more comfortable in the older one. Do you feel the same? Thank you.
I did not notice the discomfort but i am on the lower side of 5'9 and find the bike to be a really great fit i do see how it would be small for a bigger rider though!
I have the old iron barrel, 500. No electric start. I've heard it's like a girlfriend...when you say it's time to go, she doesnt immediately go, when it's time to stop. She doesn't immediately stop.
Hey , I just watched this again and because I enjoyed it so much I didn't pause at 1:06 , but I have now so Vinny ,,,, what's the white bike in the shed ? , I did spot it last night .
Great video Vinny thanks for the reviews on both bikes your are correct it all depends on the riders preference. They are both great bikes one more refine than the other. 👍
A really nice comparison, really entertaining too. Well done sir ! I really wish that I could get hold of a Classic 500 to compare it to my own Classic 350 on my channel but your video confirms what I and others have suspected. Thank you so much for this video, excellent job ! Cheers 🥃 ER.
@@roadblastmedia You’re welcome. A lot of folks on my channel have asked me how the two Classics compare and I couldn’t really say. I could only compare the Classic 350 with my old Bullet 500 but I knew that the Classic 500 was significantly better than the Bullets. Your video confirmed my feelings. The 500 is the recommendation for a classic enthusiast but the 350 is a much better option for everybody else, looking for the classic experience but in a more modern, easier to live with package. Much love to New Zealand ( a beautiful country ) and having seen your other content have now subscribed ! Good luck mate, glad to have found you ( RUclips is BIIIIIG ! ). Cheers 🥃 ER.
@@economicalrides wicked mate! Youve got a great channel yourself! And too right mate youtube is a big place haha i only started 8 months ago has been an awesome journey!!
@@roadblastmedia Thanks mate. It’s good fun but it can take over your life 😂 RE certainly seem to have a great following globally, seems I picked the right manufacturer to start my channel with. Then I bought another one because the first one was just incredible. I never intended to be an RE channel but until another manufacturer comes up with something as appealing for a similar price, there’s not a lot else I can do really. Baby Triumph perhaps ? Maybe. Depends upon the price, it needs to be budget to get a look in. Hopefully Triumph are sensible with their pricing and aim for the space between the Meteor and the Interceptor. That could work for them if the bikes‘ quality is comparable ! Definitely one I‘m considering for the future. Cheers, ER.
@@economicalrides yeah mate haha we started with one and now we have 4 and were given the 350 to do a few videos with so have almost done the whole fleet its been an awesome journey with royal enfields!
Great review thanks. You could have sat the two bikes a bit bloody closer together for the comparison points mate. Swinging the camera about like that is giving me motion sickness !
Ah sorry mate only had one shot for this video with limited time with the 350 didnt realise until it was gone so couldnt re shoot what ya get is what ya get 🤷♂️

Check it out definitely improves look.Warro done it to both & he put a Fuel X Pro on the Halcyon Grey one & a sports slip on. HIS Marsh Grey (Army Green) one looks fantastic.I'd choose the 350 over 500.
I never choose a bike considering day to day utilitarian usability. However all of my 16 bikes did a commutter rule. The pleasure and the smile they put in our face is more important. I will never get reed of my beloved Classic 500 . The reborn 350 doesn't reach the Nirvana as well the exquisit taste of the 500;, ever.
Yeah mate! Its always good having options but for people who can only afford to own one usability is key! I see what youre saying though! Must be awesome to have 16 bikes to choose from haha thats a goal for me one day!
@@roadblastmedia I can't IMAGINE having to look after 16 bikes-ouch! That would not only make for a lot of bills (licensing, registration, insurance); it would make for a lot of wrenching, or spannering-no, thank you. Anything over 2 or 3 bikes, for me, would be too much. To each his own, though...
great review, i own a 2021 classic 500 reddish edition and love it, the 500 motor size and shape reminds me of an old 1930s Howard rotary hoe push rod engine we had in the 1970s, both bikes look great, they both look like a real bikes , no plastic just chrome and steel, well maybe some a little plastic
Cheers mate great choice of bike! The 500 is a true classic with a couple of modern things added on! I love the style and feel of them! Thanks for the comment!
I'm guessing the 500 isn't run in properly yet, because they do vibrate a lot when running in, but once run in apparently they don't vibrate nearly as badly.
It had done over 4000km when i did this video im implying the bike is alot more vibey than other brand new bikes but thats what it was designed to do look and feel like a proper classic motorcycle and i love it for that reason! 😀
I wouldnt know for sure mate but its quite light and reasonably low to the ground i would say your best bet would be to go to a store and have a sit on one and see if its the right fit! I know the meteor is great for shoter riders as the seat height is much lower but the classic 350 is also great!
Appreciate your response. From where I am, it's quite a challenge to have a high saddle as traffic here could go heavy during rush hours. 5'8" btw. I really need to pay a visit at the showroom and if available, a test ride. Thanks. And great and informative video as always!
@@francisramirez9534 cheers mate at 5 8" you should be perfectly fine on one of these im only a tiny bit taller than that and i can get both feet flat on the ground!
@@Kali-nl3ll the 350 is a bit more comfy and smoother than the 500 but the 500 feels more like a true classic and is still very comfy as far as motorbikes go
Nice one 😁 If money was no object, I'd probably have both, so it's still the 350 for me. Nice to turn up to work or wherever without pins and needles 😁 I might pop and see my local dealer tomorrow and start making enquires.
@@DoomNedwob yeah mate! The same smile my gt gives me with half the power they really are something special! Theres something very satisfying about taking on some twisty roads on these little beautys!
They ARE hard to find! You rarely see them on Cycle Trader here in the US. When a Classic 500 goes up for sale, it's gone in a week or two. A RE dealer here (Quaker City Motorsport in Philadelphia, PA, USA) had one a month or so ago. It was a 2018 Classic 500 just like the one featured here. It has 10K-20K miles; I can't remember the exact mileage, but it was well in to the five figures. The bike looked good in the dealer photos, but I never saw it in person. Do you know it not only sold quickly, but it sold for $7,000 USD; that's $1.5K-$2K MORE than it sold for new! So yeah, Classic 500s are hard to come by in the US. When one comes on the market, it's quickly snapped up for a pretty penny.
If i could i would mate! And use it for everyday commuting i find it such a pleasure to ride and am never sore or uncomfortable after riding it but already owning 2 bikes in my current situation thats all i can afford to keep running at the moment but we will see what the future holds!
For me I'm not a mechanic in the slightest, so by the sounds of it I need to go 350! Although I would love the classic feel and sound, I do feel ill be at the shop with it more than I ride it
The 500 is surprisingly reliable all things considered its still a 2020 bike with fuel injection and abs with a very simple and basic engine set up theyre both very reliable the 350 slightly more so
Nice comparo mate! Did you feel a difference between the rear suspension in both the bikes? I believe the old Classic came with gas charged shocks that were more comfy when compared to new Classic/Meteor’s Hydraulic shocks.
The new ones do feel a little more spongy to be honest the old classic feels like it probably handles a bit better but both are veey comfortable bikes cheers for the comment mate!
Metallurgy is atrocious on the 500. Vibration Fatigued parts that crack and fall off. Nuts and bolts that Magically unloosen themselves, a fuel light that’s there just for looks, etc…BUT I can’t imagine having it any other way. I’m sure the new 350 is amazing in its own right, I just couldn’t choose it over the 500/535
You are a lucky dude, you can still get the 500, bere in India they are not available as the company has stopped production of the 500. Ask hour father to hold onto the bike, because in ten years time the 500 will be a rare motorcycle, pushing its price in the used motorcycle segment.
Yeah mate we bought ours second hand there were no new ones available all sold out! Very lucky to get one of the last ones for a good price only 4000km on the clock!
@@roadblastmedia You lucky son of a gun....here in India, i can't find one that has done 50k kilometers??? People hold onto the 500's like precious gold.
I have a 500 and find the vibes quite low to be honest. I love it. Mine has open pipes with no cat. It would smoke the 350 and sounds way better. The only thing that's appealing about the 350 is the better fuel economy not that I don't know what the difference is? Why do you say the 350 is more reliable? how do you know? They are both fuel injected too. Why mention carbs?
Its definitley a vibey bike but thats one of my favourite things about the 500 and why its so special it is a true representation of a modern classic that is why we bought our 500 instead of the 350 in saying that the 350 is also a great bike but they are very different! And reliable in a sense that you can get them brand new but most 500s are second hand now that they have been discontinued im not saying the 500 is unreliable in any way sorry for the confusion. Cheers for the comment mate!
Cheers mate i can only really shoot after work and the sun is in the worst spot haha but ill try take that advice on as best i can! Thanks for the feedback
If the new “J” series motor is as over engineered as the 650 Twins I`m sure it won’t be long before one of the usual suspects produces a upgrade kit to give it just that little of bit extra poke I`m sure. I rode one the other week , Very nice indeed. Wife gets nervous whenever I pick up a tape measure and head for the garage….🤣
You can use a Fuel X Pro on J motor 350 Classic which is better than a booster plug & improves fueling & richens it up so you notice better acceleration. There is 2,Fuel X which just has one self adjusting tune & adjusts for altitude, heat etc. The other is the Fuel X Pro & has 10settings 3 being stock tune & 1&2 setting for high altitudes which runs leaner.Settings 6-8 are everyday settings with 9-10 being richer & performance at sea level or abit above & has a button mounted on bars to choose setting. If you can use Fuel X made by Powertronic you probably could use a Powertronic piggyback ECU which can be used in conjunction with Fuel X or Fuel X Pro.Either one be good if you have aftermarket filter & slip on or header.
why they deleted the seat springs on the 350 is beyond me . the 500 just has something the 350 does not.. is it style, character dunno but the 350 just dont do it for me

Cheers mate always good to hear from ya man that matchless must be alot of fun! Haha i think alot of people feel the same as you mate! The 350 is a beauty but could do with a tad bit more power!
@@roadblastmedia hi Vinnie, the Matchless is not as bad as l had said, one thing at low speeds it vibrates but when stoping at lights the motor jumps up and down like the piston wants to escape through the head and then down through the sump, keep upright when riding and see you on the next one, cheers mate, Neil 🤠.
Being a fat b*gger, I need the engine of the 650, but the detailing on the 350 is superb. If you have a 350 and the indicators go missing, you might have to find me to get them back.
Haha yeah mate it would be a little small for some people thats where the 650s are perfect and yeah haha im keen to swap mine on my continental gt aswell!
I owned a Classic 350 and upgraded to the 500 in 2018, and I'd pick the 500 anyday. Its faster, bulkier, and has got a sweeter exhaust note than the new 350. And you also get used to the vibrations in a day!
Agreed mate in this case but i guess not always in the motorbike world sometimes more cylinders or weight can make a bigger difference in power. But yes the 500 is alot more authentic and fun to ride

Anyway, thanks for this comparo between the Classic 500 with the UCE vs. the Classic 350 with the J series engine from the Meteor. It confirms for me that I made the right decision. Cheers!
No worries mate!! That was a great read! Hope you get ya hands on one soon!
Exactly ! , I love tittuing with my bikes , nothing better on a Saturday in the shed , Music , Bikes and Beers ,,, Yeah !
Yup, anything not pre unit is just a modern replica.
Most RUclipsrs have a catch phrase at the beginning and/or end of their videos. Your sign-off should be something like "Thanks for watching and don't forget to cancel those turn signals. See ya next time mates."
😁 OK, sorta being funny, but that is certainly not a bad habit to have.

As always a good video from you 👍 I really love the look of the 350 in halcyon Black 👌 I would love to have one just for Sunday rides 🤔😋

Cheers mate it really does look amazing!!
I have a 2018 RE 500 Stealth Black and have done 30K KM. It's an absolute joy to ride and you will never feel tired. Suggest not to make too much of the vibration because actually it's not too much. The 350 can never match the ride quality of the 500 no matter how modern it evolves into.
I love the vibration bro! Part of its charm! Well said
Yeah, I concur.
Great vid mate, man I want to get one of these classics! Awesome to be able to do a side by side review of these two classics 😎
Yeah man theyre awesome for everyday cruising! And yeah man im super lucky to have that opportunity!

Another nice video Vinnie. My chrome red 350 gets its 500km service at Smiths tomorrow. It is a wonderful bike.

I love those bar end mirrors on the 500, is it sold by Royal Enfield?
Nah bro theyre homemade haha using the standard mirrors on hand made bar end stalks

Cheers mate! Great comment!
@@roadblastmedia Cheers!
Cheers mate! The 500 really is a proper classic machine isnt it!

I would like to buy RE CLASIC 350 from us in the Czech Republic. It's my dream ... stick and most importantly Hello. You helped me make a decision. I greet you Rob.
Cheers rob! Hope you get your classic soon!!
@@roadblastmedia Thanks mate. It would be really helpful.

Yes it is pretty quiet but has a nice little sound! All royal enfields are quiet until you put aftermarket exhausts on them!
Great video Vinny thanks for the reviews on both bikes your are correct it all depends on the riders preference. They are both great bikes one more refine than the other. 👍

Nah mate i would love to though! Once i get my full license in june i will try get on one!

Cheers mate great choice of bike! The 500 is a true classic with a couple of modern things added on! I love the style and feel of them! Thanks for the comment!
Where did you buy the bar-end mirrors on the Classic 500?
Theyre homemade using the original mirrors mate
Bro only one question I have that the both bike are same or little higher??
500 is slightly higher mate
I'm guessing the 500 isn't run in properly yet, because they do vibrate a lot when running in, but once run in apparently they don't vibrate nearly as badly.
It had done over 4000km when i did this video im implying the bike is alot more vibey than other brand new bikes but thats what it was designed to do look and feel like a proper classic motorcycle and i love it for that reason! 😀
How to know which one is 500 and which one is 350? Can we identify it by looking at the engine?

What is the minimum height of a rider who wants to comfortably ride the classic 350? Thanks

20.2 hp for classic 350, 27.2hp for 500

Look at that black color..i love that matte black
Would you plan to buy a 350?
But, don't sell your 500, seems they are hard to find.
Was looking on Trademe, found some for 8k.
Is the acceleration to 80kmph comparable?
Very similar the 500 is a little quicker to 80 but its very close the difference comes in around 90kmph the 500 has a bit more top end
For me I'm not a mechanic in the slightest, so by the sounds of it I need to go 350! Although I would love the classic feel and sound, I do feel ill be at the shop with it more than I ride it
The 500 is surprisingly reliable all things considered its still a 2020 bike with fuel injection and abs with a very simple and basic engine set up theyre both very reliable the 350 slightly more so
However, the classic 500 will never need valve adjustments because it uses hydraulic self adjusting lifters that are push rod activated.
I hope R.E. updates the 500 as they did with the 350. I tend to cruise at the speed limit which is 75 mph in my area.
Yeah mate! I would love that too!!
Classic 650 is coming very soon.

You are a lucky dude, you can still get the 500, bere in India they are not available as the company has stopped production of the 500. Ask hour father to hold onto the bike, because in ten years time the 500 will be a rare motorcycle, pushing its price in the used motorcycle segment.

I rode one the other week , Very nice indeed.
Wife gets nervous whenever I pick up a tape measure and head for the garage….🤣
Yeah mate lets hope so thatd be great to have just a tad more power! Haha i know the feeling mate 🤣

@@roadblastmedia I got the Bullet ES 350 cc UCE engine in Aug 2021, (old engine, same family of the 500cc UCE engine classic u have), no vibrations at all till 90 Kmph, post 90 little vibrations creep in but very nominal.
Max I’ve pulled it to 110 KMPH….
However they are working on the new version of Himalayan which will be 450 cc.
Super Meteor is also on the cards with the same engine as the GT / Interceptor.
Classic 650 cc can be expected in the coming couple of years.
interceptor update coming soon,
The twin exhaust will be replaced by a singe one , a new instrument cluster , tubeless tyres can be expected !
Check BSA Goldstar 650 also if u can, another retro classic
