Went into Guitar Center to demo one of these. Had a great crunch tone. Of course, I had to deal with the rep: "Hey can you turn that down I got a phone call over here." No, no sir I will not and cannot turn down the amp. It's a Supro. It exists to be cranked. Now suck my riff.
Jimmy Page played a Telecaster on the first record when he used this amp. It would have been nice if you played a Telecaster as well so we could hear how close it gets to the record.
Great playing and overall demonstration Joe! Loved the warmth of this amp, especially on the Les Paul. Terrific ripping tones, and a lovely clean tone on the strat as well! Keep it up!
It‘s really pure speculation what Jimmy used on Led Zeppelin one. He also owned a 1960 Les Paul Custom with a Bigsby at the time of recording. He could‘ve used that on some tracks. Maybe he was loaned some guitars for recording sessions. Who really knows. He has never made any public statements on the matter. He might not even remember correctly.
Great playing (as always) however, we've all heard the stories about Jimmy using a busted up/repaired Supro, etc., etc., but, didn't he use mostly the Telecaster on the 1st 4 albums? We know he used the Les Paul, mostly live, would love to hear a Tele thru that great sounding Supro.
I'm glad Supro amps are finally widely-known as excellent amps overall. Almost every model sounds great. I'm also checking out the Sundragon Amp - the people who had Jimmy's original to work from. I have to say that is the best-sounding amp I've EVER played. I'm ordering one of those soon. This one sounds similar, but not quite the same as the records.
OFR It’s not supposed to should like page. It’s just modeled after the amp he used. So you are going to pay 25,000 thousand dollars for the sundragon amp?
@@Panic42000 I don't care about Jimmy Page. it's the best amp I've ever heard. The signed ones were 25000 and all sold out - it's only about 3 grand now. Normal boutique prices.
Love its brashness. It has that raw, spank to it that is perfect for all styles of rock. I have a fondness for early rock and garage rock, so this is right up my alley. Too bad I don't hear Rickenbackers played through these on most demos to show how most guitars would sound.
I'm getting one of these,(used), to get my own tones. I really could care less about the Page myth or legend around these amps. Played my Les Paul Jr. thru one and was hooked. P90 sounds bigger then a circus fat lady thru one of these.
And why's that?? I own it and it sounds tremendous with my PRS Custom 22, Les Paul Custom and my Strat. Are you just saying that because Jimmy Page played a Telecaster on the first record with it? Have you even played it??
Nope … sounds great with custom buckers also … why you a hater ? I’ve got this amp as well as Marshall’s and fenders … hands down the most well rounded combo around ! So many tones and no pedals needed !
Then buy head version and 112 cab or 212 if you wish. Id combo is preferable then its possible to add additionally but it should has impact for warranty i guess. What Im missing more then extension is fx loop. Why the hell there is not loop? I dont understand reason :(
I'm not too sure about that, every single Black Magick video I've seen it's sounded like that. Every other Supro amp demo I've seen (Coronado/Tremo-Verb/1624T) on RUclips hasn't been THAT compressed
Yeah I replied before I heard the portion of the video where he rolls off the volume knob to clean up the sound. It doesn't loose any volume on our end. Probably a little bit of compression on the amp and a lot of compression on Reverb's end.
It either has to do with RUclips compression, or the pedals/settings he was using. I have personally played one, and let me tell you, it is one of the most (if not the most) articulate and clear amplifiers I have ever played. It is extremely amazing.
Sad.. they build with 6973's thinking that was it, when it was 6L6's. Rumor has it Jimmy sent this back to Supro and said, yeah this is not it. It sounds NOTHING like his modified Supro. This amp has no sparkle, no highs. It's just a sorry attempt.
+Owen Hu I know that, but that is not what I meant. ProGuitarShop released a demo of the Black Magick way before Reverb did, and Reverb used the exact same Zeppelin song to play for the intro that PGS used.
Though I agree to an extent, to say "nothing like" that's a bit inaccurate. That Livin' Lovin' Maid solo was pretty close. I've played about three hours on this amp with a Tele and Les Paul Traditional, it gets a lot of Zep tones. But yeah, not really a true recreation. I will say, it fucking rips though. Just plugging straight in is a joyful experience, and for me, that's a rare trait in an amp. Hell, even the feedback, when running wide open, sounds glorious.
cypress dobro "Based off of Jimmy Page's amp" but it's not supposed to sound like Jimmy Page's amp? This is actually a bad video for Jimmy Page tones. The PGS one does a much better job.
Possumlove good points. I don’t think Jimmy used a thunderbolt, he was inspired to get a Supro after hearing Albert lee using a thunderbolt. The model he first acquired was a Coronado with 2x10 speakers. He changed the 10s for a single 12 ( which would have been British ) hence the British voiced speaker in this model. There is a photo of Jimmy on stage with the Yardbirds & on the floor next to his main set up, is the Supro with the ripped speaker grill & 1x12 speaker. Looking at the scratches, it looks like the one on loan . There are also photos of Jimmy in Olympic Studio’s during the making of LZ 2, which show his super Beatle Vox head & Rickenbacker cab’s set up. On the floor you can just see the Supro Amp & looking at the control layout 4x inputs- 2xvoll - 1x tone its the same as a Coronado. I also agree Jimmy wouldn’t remember every amp/ Guitar combination he used. Apparently Whole lotta love was done using a small Vox combo that the engineer in NY dug out ( know one remembers the model ) & played on Jimmy’s black LP. JPJ said Jimmy had quite a few small amps that he liked to use .To my ears the Dual tone sounds closer to Jimmy’s sound.
Great playing!
Hey dude! Your videos brought me here! Thanks for this! hahaha
I see you, tricky Dick... Peace, Johan.
That's an incredible amp, all the tones are just fantastic. Love it
Yep take my money I want this amp but at dealer cost if that's possible

Gordon Tubbs lmao they don’t give me shit at mine
*Adjusts glasses* but like, just turn down the master volume bruh... my line 6 works like that...
Gordon Tubbs you absolute mad man!
@@Terribleguitarist89 lol not a line 6 or anything remotely close to the same thing. These aren't made to be played at low volume.
What a cool sounding amp. It likes that Les Paul a lot.
Jimmy Page played a Telecaster on the first record when he used this amp. It would have been nice if you played a Telecaster as well so we could hear how close it gets to the record.
I put a alnico creamback in mine and it really sounds great!!!
Great playing and overall demonstration Joe! Loved the warmth of this amp, especially on the Les Paul. Terrific ripping tones, and a lovely clean tone on the strat as well! Keep it up!
Might want to also demo with a telecaster
Steve's right! Although the Les Paul became Jimmy Page's signature guitar, he used a Telecaster to record A LOTTA' classic Zep songs and solos.
I'm sure most people already know by now, but he used the Dragon Tele for Stairway's solo.
It‘s really pure speculation what Jimmy used on Led Zeppelin one. He also owned a 1960 Les Paul Custom with a Bigsby at the time of recording. He could‘ve used that on some tracks. @@Gretev1 He said he used a flying V on one song on the first album which he borrowed.
Andrew McCloud never heard about that before. But cool information!
Great demo. Love the tones you're able to pull. Well done, brother.
HMMM LOVIN THIS AMP CUZ I LOVE PAGE HES WHY I PLAY AND IM HOPING ITS LOUD ENOUGH FOR A BAND SITUATION!!!!!!
Great playing and great tone. Real Jimmy Page sound.

It was actualy a new Supro Black Magick with one 12" .....but im sure its beat up by now

What's up with the monster head at 3:37 in the upper right corner, I am gonna have trouble sleeping now .... lol
huh?
I was expecting a much higher price than $1200 for some reason. Definitely an amp I would like to have.
It's $1499 in most places.
You can find them for a grand.
Sounds really bright.
Do it like Jimmy and put a Dallas RaingeMaster treble booster in front of it.
You're thinking of Eric Clapton and his Marshall JTM454, which he didn't do, anyway.
there is no evidence that Page used a Dallas rangemaster treble booster
What's inside?? PCB construction?? Sounds good. PCB is good if the board is quality with no tube sockets on it!
Bought this amp.... my other amps get neglected
You should use a telecaster on this demo that’s what Page used on the first two albums
By the second LZ album he had moved onto the Les Paul.
The second album Page used les Paul, and Amps Vox UL7120 and Marshall slp
I'm getting one of these,(used), to get my own tones. I really could care less about the Page myth or legend around these amps. Played my Les Paul Jr. thru one and was hooked. P90 sounds bigger then a circus fat lady thru one of these.
This amp was totally built for single coils, especially the Tele
And why's that?? I own it and it sounds tremendous with my PRS Custom 22, Les Paul Custom and my Strat. Are you just saying that because Jimmy Page played a Telecaster on the first record with it? Have you even played it??

Amazing amp
Sound Great
finally someone coming remotely close to his tonality. granted he's not using any pedals.
How do u attach the extension cab ? About to buy this amp but wanna make sure there’s an easy way to extend it for live shows

Would love to have those brass saddles on my Strat...
The 1624T sounds way better for Zeppelin. Why can't I find it on the Supro website ?
Was that a Chibson you were playing at the beginning of the vid?
Kravitz got it wrong. It was a Coranado. Even with 2 10”’s the Amp doesnt have the tone it would if it was the right circuit such as the Sun Dragon.
Wrong amp. That's the Black Magick Reverb you're talking about that Kravitz did the upgrade on. This has no reverb and isn't voiced the same.
wish you had also played with something like big muff
nice
"Risk d'electrocution

interesting french translation@ 1:01 :-)
😂😂
I'm unclear of how I would use this in a signal chain, based on the available inputs, if I wanted to use the amp's distortion it would be last?
Ate you telling the truth.
Whats the first riff!!!
Bring it on home from Zeppelin ! After the blues part .
There appears to be a cyberman watching you
i thought fender was king of clean 😮
I have this amp. If you like cleans this is not the amp you want.
Way too compressed for the JP sound. The Coronado sounds way closer to Zep I I've found.
Probably just RUclips compression.

Jesus Loves You
Page must be lying
Why
Sounds nothing like Jimmy's tone at all. Not even sorry. The amp is not accurate to what Jim used (6L6 tubes get u there. Not 6973s)
