    We began our retirement in March of 2020 with the intent to travel the world, spending 1-3 months in a country or location. We want to see what it's like to live there and not simply visit, and we want to share these experiences and the costs with whoever wishes to follow along. Do you want to live abroad as an Expat? Are you looking for affordable and viable options? We are exploring the world to see what it's like to live in a country, and also discover if Residency is an option.
    If you're looking for a place in Europe to live or retire Serbia may be an option, stay tuned and follow along.

    Excellent info for retirees desiring an Elective residency in Italy. The best news that came out of this interview is that under this permit none of my income earned outside of Italy will be taxed by Italy. Of course I am not allowed to work under this permit and therefore the Italian tax is a mute point. I am still skeptical (being a pessimist) about no taxes on foreign income. That sure needs to be verified / double checked. The question i have is - Are you allowed to travel freely within Schengen and not required to follow the 90/180 day rul. Also is there a mandatory stay requirement in Italy of XX number of days each year. Once again Thanks for teh great info.

    • @craigt3365
      @craigt3365 5 месяцев назад

      Schengen rules still apply except for Italy.

    • @cookmaster3626
      @cookmaster3626 5 месяцев назад

      @@craigt3365 So that means any Schengen countries other than Italy you will have to follow the 90/180 day rule. At the same time living in Italy, you can freely travel within Schengen zone without a passport stamping and there wont be any official record of being in non Italy Schengen. If caught then of course the consequences wont be pleasant.

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  5 месяцев назад

      Having residency in a Schengen country allows access to the Schengen zone without the same 90/180 rules. I think Craig is speaking to your not supposed to stay in another country like France for example more than 90 days out of 180 or set up living there full time. Without a border it’s hard to track that 90 days in France. So you can’t get Italy Residency and decide Germany is your new home.

    • @anyexpat
      @anyexpat 4 месяца назад

      @@cookmaster3626 Nope you can travel up to 182 days to any country, as soon as you hit 183 you are likely to lose your visa rights and also will be liable for tax in the new country. But if you were to apply for residency in Italy its likely you would want to spend at least half the year in Italy.

    Have you heard about how expats open a business called SRL that they intern can register and operate a car. But the commercial auto insurance is very expensive.
    Similar to what you did with Abby.😊

    Thank you for your excellent and informative videos, wish I had more time to watch them all - unfortunately, I am often exhausted from the "screens" at work. Can you please share your experience with the IMG health coverage, if you have used it? Is there any particular reason you chose this provider and not the other major global heath providers? As you know, health insurance in the US is insane if you do not have it through work, and an expensive expense when travelling. Your advice opens up our minds to the possibility of affordable living overseas... Wishing you safe travels.

      Hi Peter,
      Please copy my response I will be deleting it and your comment unfortunately. I don’t discuss the brands because I am an agent. If someone goes directly to them I lose the client and commission. I only get paid if my links are used. Prices are not impacted. Insurance discussions should be made to warrenjulietravel@gmail.com to be clear they are also a major global provider. I hope you understand.
      My typical response:
      “We carry international medical coverage from IMG as we travel, and we share our cost and how to get coverage with our viewers through my insurance link. This said many younger nomads have been opting into a program with Safety Wing, which has a lower coverage but for some may be preferable. The maximum coverage over age 39 in $100k, if under age 39 the maximum is $250k. So in this message I'm going to share two links. One for the coverage we use with IMG which meets the requirements for expats seeking residency in most countries and works as nomad coverage, as well as the Safety Wing program. I will receive a commission if you sign up with either of these links, so I sincerely hope you will consider using my links when signing up for International Medical Coverage. You can run quotes through my two links below and see what you think. The IMG coverage Julie and I have can be used in almost all countries. You can get coverage for any length of time needed, pay all at once or monthly, there are various deductibles as well as various maximum caps. Julie and I use the Global Medical Bronze plan excluding US, Singapore, and a few other high priced countries. We have $1,000,000 cap and $2,500 deductible and it runs us $240 a month combined, I’m 55 and she’s 49 years old. Look over that program and look at the Patriot program as well which may be better during a shorter period to see what’s best for you. The plan in most cases will be indemnity reimbursing you for covered services, in major incidents they try to set up direct billing with the facility. If over 65 look at the Globe Hopper program. Full disclosure I am an appointed agent, I will get a commission if you enroll for coverage with my link below, using my link does not change your offered rates. We actually chose IMG coverage for ourselves before I was appointed with them, we selected IMG as our best option after researching our needs. I decided to get appointed with them after referring many of our viewers. Here is the link: producer.imglobal.com/international-insurance-plans.aspx?imgac=540642
      The Safety Wing program may be preferable for some people, especially younger people, it also has built in features for travel protection. Take a look at the programs here. safetywing.com/?referenceID=wknox&Ambassador
      Julie and I will continue to use IMG for our coverage, but I wanted to provide another program that is popular with the younger Digital Nomad population in case this is the coverage you are looking for.”

    Thank you for the interview with Guido, some parts of the interview I didn't quite understand.. Did Guido say as an American citizen interested in living in Italy permanently you can start all the necessary paperwork using his services when you're in Italy? I apply within eight days, look for a rental or purchase a property outright so he can get the ball rolling?

    Great Job Warren & Julie!. Some of us qualify for dual-citizenship if our Italian ancestor (great-grandfather)didn't become a citizen before my grandmother was born. If Guido is knowledgeable on this it might make a good video. There's a lot of us out there, and some might not even know it. Keep up the good work!

    Thankyou. Very informative. My question with this residency permit is does it lead to a permanent residency?

    • @WarrenJulieTravel
      @WarrenJulieTravel  5 месяцев назад +1

      I just received this response from Guido:
      Hello
      The permit must be renewed annually, provided that the original requirements continue to maintain themselves over time. The residence permit may not be renewed or extended when it appears that the foreigner has interrupted his stay in Italy for a continuous period of more than six months, unless said interruption was due to the need to fulfill military obligations or other serious and proven reasons.
      After the 5-year period, it is possible to apply for a long-term residence card, with validity of 5 years.
      After 10 years, it is possible to apply for Italian citizenship.
