- In November 2017, Godflesh made a special one-off appearance in Brooklyn to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hospital Productions, the boundary-pushing record label founded by Prurient's Dominic Fernow. At the sold-out gig at Warsaw, Justin Broadrick and G.C. Green rumbled through Godflesh's landmark 1989 album, Streetcleaner, in its entirety, including of course the record's far-beyond-heavy opener, "Like Rats." See that epic performance above.
I first heard this when I was 18.
I'm now 50 and it still gets me.
First song I ever heard from them. All my friends were into Ministry ( Jesus built my hotrod and such not the dancy stuff) no one liked them , Once Songs of Love and Hate came out they all shut up. Too bad for them it took that long to like them. You Breed! Like Rats!!!
DITO. I put a sub woofer in my van and this album made it rock the most.
and this ruclips.net/video/A6Nu5jTcZbg/видео.html
So do I.
I actually requested my local library get a copy in to their music section when I was sixteen (50 in a few weeks). Got a letter (remember them?) sent to my parents', telling me it had arrived. Nipped in the next Saturday morning to pick it up, stopping by John Menzies to get a multipack of Maxell C90's on the way home...
The bass tone
It helps when there's so much "room" for it... not competing for speaker output. Part of how Shellac gets that same sonic outcome. Loving it.
It so heavy that it rips the universe creating a black hole
believe it or not, i’m pretty sure he uses a Boss HM-2. Drive on basically 0 and a lot of treble.
@@stubkar great point
Allows for the hyper aggressive attacky trebly tone to still cut through
just a shame there drummer never shows up
Godflesh and Jesu make the world a better place.
This is true.
The lighting guy deserved a raise! Man killed it!
First time I heard Godflesh, it was on an Earache Compilation cassette, when I was in the sixth grade. Immediately fell in love with heavy metal. Never looked back.
Let me guess....the song Streetcleaner.
Is this metal?

the perfect combo of 80s Swans and metal
Just mind blowing! I believe that when the world comes to an end, GODFLESH will be playing the background music...
I think that's why Godflesh came into the making because of a swans gig at the mermaid 👍😎
swans neurosis isis and some serious groove
Killer vocals damn
Dude has the voice of undead deamonlord
Justin is master on meta-riffing (=creating fantastic structures thru dissonances)
Saw them at desert fest and was blown away by those sounds
I saw godflesh/minstry combo show in Melbourne Australia in a small club was nicccee
Justin Broderick kills it live.
I still have Street Cleaner on cassette, got turned onto them after hearing 'Nihil' off the Hideaway soundtrack
Yeah, you can see em in the movie, playing "live" in the club. That movie had a great soundtrack. The Frontline assembly remixes of fear factory, and Miranda sex garden.
But I think nihil was from the cold world ep, which sounds like an alien artifact dug out of an arctic glacier.
Good old bass from another dimension Godflesh.
Almost 30 years after this song was written and his voice sounds even better than it did then.
Kinda sounds like shit..
@@Anomaly.Filmworks No, it doesn't my dude
@@JavierGonzalez-dz8kv and it sounds like shit.

This tune is so awesome
This absolutely crushes. That chorus riff man, every time it comes in, so fucking powerful
Every time I hear this song, I picture being in a field with fire burning all around me at 2am piss drunk
Or an entire world, only lit by fire
The drummer is so awesome. Look at the size of that drum kit!
LMFAO!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Best thing I've heard all day!

was at this show. good times
Please upload more of this. Godflesh has so few pro-shot performances.
Ian Hill I second that
I was at this show and I third this!

Since WHEN has Justin Broadrick had hair on both head and face? He looks like Bruce Wayne. Or Cristian Bale. Anyhooo I am glad that Godflesh is still alive, and kicking serious ass.
I think he looks like Razal gul
Broadrick is either completely bald or he looks like he crawled out of a cave for the first time in forever.
What I would give to see this performed with an air drummer on a stool between them sweating and going hard not missing a note, getting his own individual camera shots, especially in the fills...

@@capitalknockers666 Thankyou sir, your appreciation is an award in itself, for both of us.
Still gives me the creeps. Thank you Godflesh 🤟🏽
Godflesh is the purest form of rage musically personified. none will ever touch this
Good god that was amazing. Ridiculously tight!!
Grind in Paradise Jimmy Mack ! 🤘 and Joe "Cool" Scott ! I miss you
I love the gritty, grungy sound
I don't want to be cliché but these guys need to come to Brazil
Lol that’s a common thing said. “Come to Brazil.”
Notice Dominick (Prurient/Vatican Shadow) in the back headbanging and totally getting into it lol
No way, where?
One of my favorite bands and songs.
So good!!! I love all of Godflesh tracks.
I saw godflesh back in 97 with pitchshifter and stabbing westward....fucking epic show at the bomb factory in Dallas
Never gets old.
30 years before the djent trend, Godflesh tuned already so low it could shatter buildings. So glad to see Godlfesh back to its original form with "Post Self".
Post-self is more atmoshperic than his last works. WLOBF was JK going back to his GODFLESH roots.
Pfff WLOBF was rubbish. Double bass drums, uninspired riffs from his new stupid 8 string guitar, it sounded like an overproduced American death metal band, American reviewers loved it... All European fans and reviewers have discarded that album as the disposable return album most bands do after a long hiatus. Only Americans liked it because they can't get enough of overproduced stuff. A big sound doesn't make a great album. Djent and metalcore are awful, no one in Europe likes it. Overproduced garbage. Guess what ? It kills in the US... Stop with those trends already and open your minds to composition, emotions, groove. Broadrick learned how to use his new guitar, got back to writing groovy riffs, and balancing the heaviness with atmospheric stuff, like Godflesh always did. Only Streetcleaner was mostly destruction, the rest always had that balance. WLOBF is an anomaly and will be quickly forgotten. In fact I prefer the "Decline and Fall" EP which has the amazing "Playing With Fire" on it and a better sound than WLOBF...
Nicolas Bertin Pftt you. Meta had it right, WLOBF had more in common with Streetcleaner in many ways than Post-Self did (terrific album btw). But you’re free to believe the rubbish you wrote if it makes you feel superior. You sound like many purists metalheads from... America..
Go fuck yourself you little shit.
Nicolas Bertin Wah wah wah. What a big man! No wonder you sounded like such a pretentious asshat, and that’s because you are one, you sorry excuse of a Godflesh fan. Now go cry some more about American metal and their fan bases you shit guzzler.
I Have been a gardener for 48 years,, but now at 59 years old, ive become a Comedian...
wut?
A great band that more people need to hear first saw them on a compilation video playing christbait rising so vicious so heavy wall of noise.
So underrated. Brutal af
Single greatest song ever.
Was a crushing set live need complete show now please
Memba being at your first shows...played streetcleaner here while wtc 911 fell 2001. nyc
Damn good recording
two guys on the side stage had so much more fun than the crowd. super heavy performance btw!
god damn that is just pure filth pouring out my speakers hearing that. Absolute banger of a tune
Swans - Filth (1983)
This song is responsible for the birth of so many bands
A fuck ton of metalcore/heavy hardcore is indebted to this band (Harm’s Way comes to mind immediately). This song is still fucking heavy as hell.
Great thanks!
This sounds good live
Goosebumps here. Just the feedback scene at the start, so cult. But although the vocals are really good, I would've loved massive stereo delay echoes on them, would've been super atmospheric for this setting in particular and added more presence.
This is solid
i saw them back in 1991 on the grind crusher tour.....epic!
One of my last shows before I left NY. Had just gotten into them and it was like being transported back in time 20 years. Got so puke drunk, ugh.
Let's make this Christmas Number 1.
Perfect pop.
upload the whole godamn show jesus christ!!!!
Seriously
I have a longer show right here - ruclips.net/video/6rzgisirpm0/видео.html
Not gonna lie, I'm not an expert on metal. I've listened to other genres. But there's nothing harder than this
Check out insect warfare, napalm death, hatred surge, anything grindcore/power violence
agreed, i recommend triptykon, heavy as fuck aswell
@@crunchygaming1561 joke
Dude, the only thing I've heard that compares is primitive man, but whereas godflesh inspires me, primitive man depresses me. Not very uplifting music in any sense, Primitive Man. But if you're willing to give up inspiration for pure misanthropy, sure.
The album Dopethrone by Electric Wizard is the heaviest album I know of
I was there, sick
This version crushes the album version
The tones of the harmonics were off but none the less they proceed to give us what we want. Incredible
absolute banger
the best in me,thanks!!!!!!
I am actually The Gardener for Justin, he lives nearby,,,,,,
Really? Is he cool?
Thank you so much for this! Great camera work and sound! I could only dream of the whole set being posted.
This is the soundtrack of Grand Forks ND in fall - the perpetual prewinter barrenness and despair - this is Gospel
STREETCLEANER is the most angry album ever done , brutal , aggressive , raw pure hatred , extreme of all !!!!
You forgot influential as well.
You gotta listen to “Cop” and “Young God EP”, both by Swans. Brutal, heavy, oppressive, borderline unlistenable, and the blueprint for Godflesh.
Godflesh is kingl
BTW there's side project Jesu
there's A LOT of Broadrick's side projects
also Pale Sketcher and Council Estate Electronics (Arktika) are worth checking out
jesu is fucking beautiful, this is the same guy?

Amazing
1989 🔥
This may just be the heaviest band playing the heaviest song ever..
Yes.
What year did the Streetcleaner lp come out 1989? I loved it then at the age of 17 & I love it probably even more now & this live version of Like Rats is awesome
Gods!!!
Awesome.
so sick me loves it
Good shit!!!
Godflesh me fait pleurer
I absolutely love Godflesh, and when I saw them live in London years ago (must have been 2010) it was amazing. But...well I have to say it...the guitar sound here doesn't really cut it I think, it's a bit thin isn't it?
lucky you
The first time I saw this live it was like being punched in the chest by an elephant
It would be so lovely to play this live in a Kindergarten in London.
Yeah GODFLESH
justin you are a beast, hehe...and that is fine...
Flava!!!!!!
Mike Patton sent me here from the 90s
Classic uk band .
Good God this is so fucking heavy.

Guy in the crowd at 1:03 looks like Nick Oliveri, looking for bass tips.
I think this was their Christmas concert.
Fuck lol that’s heavy
Wow

How the fuck do you get that bass tone
Godflesh.. la banda que con un violero, y un bajista, y sin bateria fisica. Suena 1000 veces más industrial que Rammstein y todo el circo
só 2 caras fazem uma puta sonzeira dessa e sem bateria normal...
when is that jef whitehead video coming out?!!
that fuckin bass
fuck yes
