6:33 I love how the drummer just casually asks him "ready?" Right there on stage before thumping away like crazy. There's something so pleasantly unprofessional about that. It's awesome
Unprofessional? That's what every musician does in a live band setting. They'll have rehearsed some cues but not always - more often than not a "Ready?" is what you get.
This guy is living proof that you can in fact, play intense drums and do vocals at the same time. Also, his sticking is impeccable, really good control.
So here's a little story: I work as a bike messenger in the city where this festival is, and I couldn't really afford a full ticket (just for seeing LB) but a friend of mine was going, so I asked him to call me when they were going to play, to see if he could usher me in somehow. They were scheduled for 2 to 3 AM. I set a couple of alarm clocks and went to bed, since I was exhausted from working all day (and in the evening as well). Unfortunately, I slept through all my alarms.. I did, apparently, answer his call but was sleep drunk and immediately fell asleep afterwards. The next morning I woke up, and realised I had missed Lightning Bolt.. OH well, at least I get to see (a part of) the performance on RUclips now anyways, so thanks Le Guess Who! I hope to see them next time around.
Agreed, and the human wave that ensued around them was next-level. Problem was everyone would crowd around a fully set-up drumkit and cabinet stack out in the crowd, basically drawing everyone away from the openers

Got to see them in march after the covid hiatus and they did not disappoint Also they dropped doing stage shows and were on the floor again and the people who were knew to lightning bolt struggled to keep themselves from falling into Brian’s kit

Lightning Bolt fuckin' rules.
I discovered LB in 2007 on MySpace and I was glad to see them in Paris at La villette in 2009. 15 years later, they still stand as one of my favorite bands. They are really cool and smart.

For some time my main hobby has been watching videos of Lighting Bolt live sets which probably for a matter of contrasts have the effect of putting me at peace with the world around me, an effect comparable to the vaunted meditation I guess.... but all this to just say that after having seen and heard an honestly considerable number of live performances by the two Brians I think I can say, fook yes! this is the best. Guys goin better and better.

I saw these guys in '98 in NYC at this place called Brownies. I think it was the Wicked Farleys, Les Savy Fav, and Lightning Bolt. Man, what a religious experience.
I recall witnessing these individuals open up for the Locust. I forget the venue. Those amps were piled high in the middle of a packed show. Exhilarating to say the least. The Locust did an extra long set, I think it was 27 minutes.
Came here to see Brian and his band, from playing Thumper for years and years since it released. I had no idea that there would be people discovering Thumper from listening to Brian for years and years.
I saw them in Newport, KY at the Southgate House in 2005. 100s of concerts later, and it's still at the top of my fav live music experiences. Dracula Mountain man. I still go back and look and the pics on their website sometimes, I'm the arm in the air with the bad star tattoos lol.
My teacher asked me what my fav drummer is and I straight faced said "Brian Chippendale, the guy that uses a telephone as a mic and inspired me to be the man I am. Also his music will make some of the lesser people in this room pass out. "
I didn't want to like this. I didn't want to watch this. I've watched it twice... so far. It's end of the world perfection that will get better with every listen... until the world ends!

The quality of the audio mix is incredible! Sounded so clear without losing any of the energy. So damn good.

I saw them in Newport, KY at the Southgate House in 2005. 100s of concerts later, and it's still at the top of my fav live music experiences. Dracula Mountain man. I still go back and look and the pics on their website sometimes, I'm the arm in the air with the bad star tattoos lol.
