Here is my first 4K planespotting video! Watch in 2160p (3840 by 2160 pixels) for the best viewing experience. I've included information about the departure/arrival airports for many of the planes, along with their registrations.
In the early 60's, Houston decided to build a new airport to replace Hobby. The new airport would be called Jetero since it would be modern and high tech for the day. Well, after completion, Houston Intercontinental became the name. As a young guy in the late 60's, when I went to the airport, there was absolutely NOTHING around but fields and pastures. Fast forward a few years or so, and developers had moved in and then it was wall to wall malls, strip malls, housing developments, and schools. Now, the inhabitants of this area began to complain of the jet noise [duh], so the noise abatement program was instituted. The last time I flew out of and into Houston Intercontinental was 1982, when I took a trip to the Cayman Islands.
This is one of the best, if not THE best, plane-spotting vids I've ever watched. I had to watch it again tonight.
+zachmatt3 That is too kind of you, thank you! There are some real pros on RUclips and I am certainly not one of them . . . but I do think that 4K makes a huge difference over HD, even though HD is great too. Thanks for watching!
+zachmatt3 ...Come on now that's got to be a little bit of an exaggeration!
Truly spectacular video, also the military jet is an Aero L-39 Albatros, belonging to the Czech Air Force :)
+miguel leatham Thank you! I know nothing about military aircraft so I never would have figured that out on my own. Does this mean the Czech are invading Houston? :o
+KBurchfiel Lol I honestly have no idea why they were there haha but still a really rare spotting if you ask me! :)
Outstanding video! Fellow Houstonian here. Excellent quality with the clarity. Like the shot of your blue jeans, lol, I just did the same trick recently returning from LAS. Thanks for sharing.
The best parts about this well done video are the positioning, clarity and take off points of all the heavies. Rather see planes in the air than on the ground. Thumbs up!
Looks AMAZING on my 4K TV! Thank you for bringing this awesome video into existence!
+Hamza Jaleel Haha, it was no trouble really--just pointed the camera at some big airplanes :)
Lufthansa's A380s and KLM's 747s will be forever missed, I used to see Lufthansa's A380s to and from Houston a lot before Covid. But now they're gone...
lol funny annotation "none of the planes are stopping at the stop sign!" lol that was awesome, amazing video, subbed! love the 4k footage!!!
Absolutely stunning video. Thanks for sharing.
luv this vid. lots of take offs and no BS.....😃
beautiful plane-spotting video. thanks
Uh, that was nice! :D Wonderful 4K traffic at Houston! Liked the United Dreamliner very much! I'll follow you for more :) Greets from Munich Airport!
What location are you using to watch the departures? Is that Rankin Road?
yes it’s rankin road i was there yesterday haha
I’ll be heading there next week
Very nice!
Awesome video! Great filming! :D
excellent spooting
Incredible Sound.! When Proper Stereospeaker Used. !:)
I've been on 4 of the planes on this list :)
This video is awesome! The positionig is great and you can really see the details of every plane! Great job!👍
I’m surprised a dinky little B763 can even make it from London to Houston without an EWR fuel stop
great video
Fighter Trainer is a Czech Airforce Aero L-39za Albatros
Great video. So in July I will be coming down from Kansas to Galveston for a cruise. Im going to come a day earlier to hang out. What locations would be good to watch the DLH A380 land?
Great spotting!
good work ,enjoyed ur video
This was a very nice video!
So many United
I live near this airport
You know your at iah when there’s so many united airlines planes (I live in Houston)
awesome video! what camera did you use for filming?
What runway were you spotting by?
Great video! Did you use a stabilizer?
I live this video but where is Emirates A-380 I came in it like 8 or 8 months ago
Infinite Flight daily I think they now use the Boeing 777-300ER
Where is this exact spot ?
What program did you use to add the text line at the bottom?
16:11 Czechoslovak made L-39 Albatross, trained many Soviet and Warsaw Pact pilots during the Cold War, now a toy for boys with fat wallets..
BTW, Nice, sharp vid, a little disappointed that no TK or NZ flights were recorded however, or the smaller int'l ops, Aeromexico, Avianca/Taca, Air Canada, WestJet, Interjet and so on....
+cameraman655 Thanks for watching! I do plan to go back again and catch some of the other international widebodies. But as for the int'l narrowbodies and RJs, well my focus is on the heavies ;)
you should tell which planes are flying
The 787's are about as common as fleas and ticks on a dog now.
Hey what camera do you use? I don't care what the price is!! Great video by the way!!!
It was the cheapest 4K camera with optical zoom that I could find! It was on sale for $699 when I got it, I think. Panasonic HC-VX870K. Nice and small too :) They're coming out with a new 2016 model.
+KBurchfiel Ok, I'm looking for a camera with about 80-120 optical and/or digital zoom. My camera has that, but the quality is just awful, really awful. So I'm looking for good quality and about 80-120 optical/digital zoom. Thanks!
Digital zoom is a scam. 80x optical zoom is really high and I don't know of any camera that offers that. Honestly I think 20x or 30x optical is all you need.
Amazing video, do you spot often at iah?
+88hhe Not really! I'll probably go again in the summer when the sun sets later.
KBurchfiel finally watched on a 4K TV and this is great
how come i havent seen a 747 or A380
didnt KLM start to fly the combi to IAH?
Nice Video Mate,... Subbed you Channel :-)
What type of camera did u use?
I reckon it was a high-end Sony UHD 4K video recorder, expensive, but worth it! I use a Canon EOS 1200D, it works fine as long as you have a good lens.
Hey there can I use your footage to create an aviation video of my own? I'd be sure to give footage credits to you. Just would like to know how you'd like to be credited for your work. :)
Sure, because you asked :)
thank you much!
what game are you playing?
Is it illegal to tour the iah airport and remain on airport premises when not traveling?
I'm not a lawyer but I don't believe so. Of course you couldn't go past security, so there really wouldn't be a lot to see. You should be able to drive around any public accessible roads. There are a number of approved planespotting locations--although for Rankin Road (where I'm spotting from here) you need to call the airport operations line and let them know you'll be there. Of course you wouldn't want to enter any areas that aren't available to the public!
I live in the area and love planes...can you tell me where we can legally plane spot? Thanks in advance. I really enjoyed the video. ☺️
They need to cut those trees. Those planes are flying right between some of the limbs every time.
when is qantas ging to go to houston
Maria Aguilar never
What road were you on?
This is off Rankin road
+KBurchfiel It's an authorized site but you have to let IAH know you'll be there. Planespotting guides online will have more info :)
you have to let IAH know really? damn smh. Is the spotting area on Lee road still open? I used to go there a couple years ago to chill.
Better to call beforehand than to have them tow your car or something ;) It's really no trouble, they'll know what you're talking about.
+KBurchfiel im here on Lee rd. its kinda lousy view. what department in IAH i call to get permission on rankin rd?
what is your camera please ?
+Ultimate PlaneS Panasonic HC-VX870K
okay thanks man excellent video with the quality
Why do so many international airlines go through Houston?
Because Houston and the surrounding cities have a population of millions, plus Houston is an economic center for oil, gas, petro-chemicals, insurance, investment, shipping, and much much more. Texas is also a tax free state, so foreign businesses are relocating to Texas for those benefits.
David Barnett Definitely not tax free, but income tax free
big airport, big population
A-4 military...
