For Manufacturing, if you use multiple tools ie End Mills, Drills etc, each tool has to be in its own .nc file. This means either you have to edit the files together or at the machine, load a new file after each op and work your way through the ops -the ultimate "no tool changer". Still good for free but will be a pain. Also eliminates rapid moves so have to manually fix those as well.

I thought pay to win was only for games, I never thought Autodesk would try to destroy hobbyists that are doing CAD for personal use and for fun. Software companies get so greedy, yet they won't sell you the program only charge you outrageous rent, might be time for me to learn Blender 🤔

So far it's still pretty good for a hobbyist. I've been looking around myself Alibre is probably at the top of my list if Fusion cuts any more. Fusion is really hard to pay a subscription for since I don't use it for months sometimes. I'd rather pay a one time fee for Alibre and use it forever. So far though Fusion still works great for me. I don't keep many active editable projects so 10 is plenty for designing stuff that my wife and kid break around the house :)

Actually it's pretty complete for a free version. The CAM limitations are understandable, I don't think a hobbist has a CNC machine in their house.

I think "10 Active documents" should be read as "10 Read/Write documents". All other documents you got are "read only". As far as I understand you can still use your own libraries/sub-assemblies and reference them as before. It will be a little more cumbersome (a speed bump for those who uses the free license for doing commercial work) to go back and edit stuff, but totally doable. I think (hope) it will work out ok for hobbyists. People using the personal license for actual contractor work will probably find the personal license too restrictive - which I guess is the purpose. Disclaimer: I have a 3D-printer - not a CNC so I can't say what's changed there.

Edit in Place for components is also missing. Same as the External Component, as it uses Edit in Place in the background.
The 10 documents limit, now call editable docs (and the rest Read Only), is scheduled to be in place in January 2021

Cool! I just read that again in the blog. Thank you for the update!
Autodesk Blog "The 10 active document allowance will be in effect on January 19, 2021. After this date, you will have the option to select which 10 documents you would like to remain active, and the rest will be stored in your account in an archived state. You can swap an archived document for an active document at any time. There is no limit on how many archived designs you choose to keep."

Waiting for your final opinion, I think Fusión keeps being fully functional for me, as a beginner and for personal use. Thanks Tyler

Will do. But, I will say I think Fusion's free capabilities are pretty hard to beat.

@@TylerBeckofTECHESPRESSOis this still true? Just getting into 3D printing and am finding tinkercad rather limiting. Maybe it won’t be, idk. But is the free version still worth it?

Csn you tell me how to move from full paid to free? There is no obvious way to downgrade (i asssume this is meant to he hard) but its very frustrating. I am now completely locked out as i have too many projects for a free acoutnt.

I guess All good things come to and end. I can see them taking away more complicated features like simulation, but PDF output...... come on fusion! So now if I need a true 1 to 1 template I need to work around it somehow. 😡

  • @mattw7949
    @mattw7949 3 года назад +2

Yeah, they crippled it to the point of being useless. I think even if they made it free again I wouldn't go back because of how they have handled this.
You know the saying... if someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Yes, it is now limited. I live in Canada and it came a week and a half ago while I was working. Fusion crashed and when I reopened it boom, there it was.

Please consider doing a series with FreeCad. As you know it is open source/free which alone is a major advantage over proprietary.
It is modular allowing others to create their own utilities and features which can be shared via thingyverse. In fact, some folks have even added ability to do PCB design.

@@TylerBeckofTECHESPRESSO Move it to the top of the list - haha. I abandoned Fusion 360 about a month or so ago and started learning (and it's a steep curve) Freecad. Not as complete as Fusion, but at least I can make pdf output, and when I get around to making a hobby cnc, I won't be limited 1 one tool and no rapid moves. Then there is the comfort that my files are on my computer and not Autodesks computer.....

They used to have a Hobbyists license, I know because I had one for 2 yrs. it seems it went the way of the dinosaurs .. so I'm left with the Personal license.

Anyone know why I can't import .dwg from autocad into fusion 360 any more? I had a student license and that expired so I switched to personal use but now with personal license the .dwg files that I used to be able to upload just show up as dwg's in my projects and I can't open them.

I thought the 10 thing, was 10 active projects, not open files. Any more projects exceeding that number would need to be archived. I could be wrong on that as i haven't looked into it, just listening to other videos.
