Vietnamese speaker here. It sounds like she had just started learning it. But the thing with her is that she is not afraid to make mistakes. That’s how you learn languages. I’m sure she is better now. I’m very impressed how many languages she can speak. I’m also on Duolingo to learn a few other languages. I hope I can half as good as her.
Don't think she could do much more than it... Like, everyone thinks that this is enough already. Do not tell me she's different... or she wouldn't be learning 21 fucking languages! Guess she'll work at some international company in the future and that's all
@@Trollmeister-nm9es ok but she's 13. She has SO much longer to perfect this. The fact that she has a HUGE base to start on, can read, write and speak most of these languages and be able to communicate for a few minutes is great.
Idk if it was sarcasm, but, even if it was, the secret of being a polyglot is learning languages (obviously), but, the secret of learning languages is that learning languages is all about INPUT.
I’m a twelve year old trying to learn Russian, and I admire this girl. She has learned so many languages in such a short amount of time! She is so skilled for someone her age, and that’s amazing. I aspire to be like her.
if you want it ask around about how you can join a structured class! even a zoom class or something a couple hours a week. you are at a time in your life where Russian will stick in your head a bit more, so take advantage! very admirable not only to pursue a dream at your age, but to have it at all!
Believe me, this girl doesn’t know the Russian language just as she doesn’t know the Ukrainian language. She knows only a few words in Russian and cannot even formulate a sentence correctly. She couldn’t say anything at all in Ukrainian! I think that quality in this case should be more valuable than quantity. And by the way, I'm half Russian and half Ukrainian.
Whenever she spoke in another language she was like, yeah I have lots of chinese friends, I have a bunch of korean friends, A lot of my friends are from Mexico ... Like, I barely have friends in general and this girl has befriended what seems like half the world 😂.
Lol, fr tho. And I'm just sitting here like, "Yeah, I have 7 American friends and a Canadian friend who lives in Mexico..." (he's like a native there).
as a brazilian here, i can say that she has a really strong american accent and she really mixes it with spanish, but yet its so incredible to see how shes really into lenguages and is impressive for a 13 years old!!
y'all are forgetting the fact that this girl is ONLY 13. she isn't fluent in all 20 languages but nonetheless, it's very impressive, let's not invalidate her hard work
@@TheChunkyCrusader Well, "speaking" should entail at least a conversational level in said language. If you can share your own ideas in said language, then you speak it in my opinion.
@@Navajonkee but that level is around 1,000 words. Surely to be fluent per se, one needs to know more. Experts also don't agree what counts as words too or which words are goods ones. Now I would ask, what do you determine to be a conversation? Just simple chat like how one is doing or how one's day went or more?
@@TheChunkyCrusader As I said. If you are able to speak your mind, and share unique ideas with someone, while also being able to properly react to their answers. Repeating phrases is not a conversation, it becomes one onec you put your mind into it.

She doesn't speak all languages well. But we must take into account that she is only 13 and is trying to speak 20 languages. Most of the people who are criticizing her do not even speak the mother tongue.
André Gonçalves I am pretty sure that they both have incredible talent and skills to learn and speak in foreign languages, but tbh, Ukrainian and Russian part (as a native speaker) didn’t impress me at all. I’ve heard a few general phrases which are very often used by polyglots as a structure - it is a beautiful language - I don’t speak it well - I want to learn it, etc. And if you watch videos with other people who claim that they are polyglots, you will notice (even with subtitles) how they talk about same or close topics over and over again.
It’s better to learn 2-3 languages and speak fluently so you can always rely on your skills, rather than dozens of them at a mediocre level. Not sure about other languages but her French and Russian for instance are very basic. Survival level to buy an ice cream and that’s it. What the point of impressing people for these ‘polyglots’? I personally speak like 4 or 5 foreign languages and only English pays off by far.
Yes she doesn't speak all these language really fluently (like a Native) , but, she is thirteen years old and can speak 13 Languages good. This is hillerious. I am 22 and I learn my third language... And I speak only my motherlanguage really fluently (like a native). Sow. It doesn't makes matter when she make one or two little mistakes.
She might not speak most of these languages perfectly but she's always super excited about every language and just starts speaking without worrying about screwing up. That's the most valuable thing when learning languages
Absolutely right... at 13 she'd do very well to properly speak half of the languages claimed... but her enthusiasm for language is undeniable, and is the key. It's not really about being 100% correct and having 'the' accent bang-on, but about attempting communication, and just getting stuck in, and finding the most effective way to be understood. I think she's completely wonderful...
indeed, her german is a bit "rusty"" but still quite good. Since i'm dutch, i speak german as well, like most dutch people do, since Germany is our neigboring country and a lot of germans spend their vacation here. Learning languages givesyou the freedom to travel and understand the people in other countries.. i already feel blessed by speaking english and German, as well as a little french, Italian and a few words in Russian..
Confidence is only good when u know what ure doing , otherwise u are just like sounding a bit off on everything u say and almost everyone would notice that ur speaking is very limited to those things u have memorized . Meaning that if u can have a conversation like introductions it doenst make u a speaker . I speak for myself , I can start talking in french or even Italian but I wont go further than her on any of these languages. And I would never claim out there I speak all those Languages . The fact that she can form basic sentences in Portuguese doesnt make her a speaker at all and whatsoever. I guess the title is a bit off not to say its missleading.
me as an English learner, i would like to have the same confidence to speak English as she does it with all those languages :( i feel really proud of her
Pronunciation matters for shit. Not my problem. The impressive part is that they are 13, with maturity they will properly crystalize their pronunciation, before they even reach the end of their cognitive development. Though girls do mature much quicker than men, and seem to exhibit much earlier signs of intelligence, so I would say it's all very believable. I would recommend they learn whatever they want left, and then focus on reading greek and roman literature before the brain solidifies too much.
To anyone watching this, concentrate on one language and become fluent before you move on and start learning multiple languages at a time. It’s like knowing coupe simple greeting in few languages doesn’t get you anywhere in life but actually speaking a foreign language fluently will get you places in life .
Well i have seen a video of a Vietnamese guy interviewed her in Vietnamese language entire time ans she spoken fluently so please dont be a hater, she is very talented
@@BrianT-gd7vd I am fluent and I can tell you neither of them are fluent in Vietnamese. It is super basic. The inflection in Vietnamese is very difficult and his is horrible. Hers is a bit better.
@@BrianT-gd7vd bro he isn’t even jealous just pointing out facts… it’s simply not possible for a human being to learn that many languages fluently (maybe if they were raised as a kid in about 4-5 unrelated languages and then decided to learn a few languages that were related to each language. Even then it’d take years and years and maybe couldn’t work). The problem is that she was just raised speaking English, so this isn’t possible. I speak Spanish, and know a fair amount of Portuguese and I can tell you she ain’t fluent. That isn’t an insult; learning her level for each of the languages she’s learned is very impressive, especially her age.
I like the way she's not shy speaking, even if she make mistakes, she's like "well, it doesn't matter, I'm already proud of myself and I'm killing it". Such a good self confidence, and this is one of the things I find most important to learn a language. I get so stuck cause I don't have that mindset. This video totally changed my mind. BE PROUD OF YOUR LEVEL, AND GO ON LEARNING.
There are studies than show that. For example, japanese women changes your tone when speak a foreign language (some sort of escape of cultural conventions, maybe?)
Ela é apenas uma criança, mesmo que não fale tão bem, ela pode se comunicar de maneira clara. Isso é MUITO mais do que a maioria dos habitantes do mundo, e é incrível.❤ She is a genious
Its genuinely crazy how many friends you can make by just speaking another language, I speak a bit of Japanese and now I have like 50 friends in Japan. :)
Fak men I want to meet and talk with French people but as I'm from the Philippines it's very hard to establish a connection with them.. So my best resort would be to find games or game servers with a lot of French people. Do you guys know any media where I can meet n' greet with people that speak French? Even if ils habitons en Belgique, Afrique, France, I don't know about Quebecois speakers though!
Not only does she have the ability to speak all these languages what amazed me was that she must do video calls to her friends and she picks up subtle things that are unique to the respective country language. Before learning language was text book or what you regurgitated second hand. She displayed typically a young Japanese teen with her hand gestures and facial expressions, amazing. I noticed this too with the other languages she spoke. The Vietnamese was amazing, most people say it sounds like playing a record backwards lol, I agree but still very fluent! What an amazing young lady and I hope she continues it all and ends up getting fluent. Well done for Finnish, I learned that off a girlfriend and found it the hardest of all strangely enough, no B’s so more P’s use lol
Even if she speaks imperfectly, mixes words and vocabularies, speaks foreign languages with mismatched foreign accents ... she's still an excellent communicator who understands how to say and hear the intended meaning. She'll probably get better at all these languages (and learn new ones) over the next decade or two.
I hate it when people judge others for how well they speak an additional language, if you can understand them then who cares? Most of the people who judge only speak one language anyways.
She may be my favorite person on the planet- a complete sweetheart with amazing language skills. She uses the word “friends” loosely, many are brief internet encounters. It’s like saying you speak a language when you only know a few dozen words and phrases. But Don’t judge, she is amazing.
@ Lucrack San if you speak Spanish also Italian would be quite easy for you to pick up. German is closer to English as an Anglo-Saxon language. Good luck!
She may have joined some online clubs that help promote the ability to speak with others in languages she wants to learn. (that is a thing) In addition to any friends she may have at school from other countries.

Unfortunately I don’t remember much. Yet I’m blown away by this girls talent.
I think it’s funny how people want to critique her when she literally has only spoken something other than English for 4 years. 20 languages in 4 years. Most people take 4 years of a language in High School and still aren’t even fluent in that one language!
It's not about critics but about false self-perception. Her Russian is nothing, not to mention Ukrainian. You don't learn a language in a year, not possible.
@@mactiva1 it is possible- everyone learns at different speeds and some may be faster at learning a language than others. It also depends on the language you're learning anyways

italian english swedish and french are the ones i can speak.. i lost my german when i moved to sweden :( imho is better to speak well 2-3 languages than bad 10 or 20.. that’s just me
I can only judge on spanish but the only criticism I can make is that she does a very english thing of making the subject explicit every time. This is required in english, but, while understandable and to some extent, acceptable especially in certain regions, it's not correct spanish: "YO barro la casa, y luego YO limpio el piso, y mas tarde YO cocino" -> "barro la casa, luego limpio el piso, y mas tarde cocino" ("I sweep, then I mop, and later I cook"). There is no need of making the subject explicit as it's part of the verb conjugation. the excessive use of the explicit subject changes the meaning of a mundane sentence like that, to a more accusative tone: it's like you're saying "I do all of that, YOU don't help me at all". once she polishes that, it'll be excellent. her pronunciation of ñ is correct, unlike his: he pronounces ñ as a regular n.
If she’s this good at 13, she’ll be mind blowing in her 20s and full-blown polyglot in her 30s. I’m very impressed. As someone who speaks 7 of those languages fluently, she is definitely not 100% perfect in any of them, but she’s understandable and conversational. Isn’t that what it’s all about? I will say her tones in Mandarin are a little rough, especially for city names like 北京,上海,湖南,etc. Overall, she’s a phenom. Keep it up!!!
Well, Dan you are right, but it doesn't mean she will be still so eager and keen on learning languages when is older. You know teenagers, and specially such talented kids develop different interests which later might develop. I know in the 90s, I was working in the Balkans and met this kid in Macedonia, who was like 10 or something who was fluent in English speaking with Georgia/Alabama accent, and could speak dozen of languages at the time, and now seeing him in the video with Wouter, he barely speaks many of them.
You are so right. At 13 years, most kids aren't even fluent in their native language yet. They can converse fine, but their vocabulary isn't fully developed.
I’m Japanese and can attest her Japanese is pretty impressive. Great vocabulary, perfect sentences, natural pitch accent. She named her Japanese friends living in Tokyo.
I am 13 and I can speak 2 languages and I am working on 2 other. Technically I speak 4 languages. I thought that was good, but when I see her being my age and speaking 20 languages, I was amazed. But she does not speak hindi that well.
Don't feel bad. She's pretty bad at most of these languages. I'm a native Hindi speaker, I could not understand a word of what she was saying without having those subtitles on. Language learning in reality is a far more involved and difficult thing than just "speaking to friends".
@@darkgreninja8349 I can definitely confirm that, from what I've heard her German is really not that good but neither is his German so the fact that he's saying she's good in German just makes it weightless. In my opinion she should concentrate much more on improving at one Language rather than learning 103 languages at the same time just to show-off. It's actually a shame that they claim to speak those languages if they aren't even able to make those baby conversations flawless.
I'm German and I can tell her pronunciation is very very good, especially when considering her age. A couple of grammatical errors but I'm sure she will get rid of that pretty fast! She's very very talented!
I agree. She also mixed some Spanish words in while speaking German. To me, she was best with Spanish. I would guess she learned that first and uses it most frequently. She did not sound Austrian, but she was still very good in German.
Es gibt noch hier und da grobe Fehler aber man muss das doch in Relation sehen. Sie ist 13 (!) und lernt noch etliche andere Sprachen. Sie spricht nicht auf Muttersprachenniveau aber mit der Zeit und konsequentem Üben wird das schon werden...
She's only 13, she isn't going to be as good as someone that's spoken the language for years! I think it's still amazing and she's going to go a long way.
Yo le he escuchado un acento venezolano pero también italiano, xddd. No se por qué pero muchas palabras sonaba como con esa enfásis que ponen los italianos cuando hablan en español
It's clearly her second language. Se le entendió perfectamente todo lo que decía, y eso que yo soy de España y su acento era más de Mexico mezclado con Venezuela.
Telmo Pena i noticed she mixed a lot with spanish, but i could still understand her. spanish is very similar with portuguese. what i’m trying to say is that she can still communicate.
She speaks Russian but she doesn't speak Ukrainian , these are not the same languages. However she is great girl and very gifted ,that's for sure. Bless her .
No...IT IS not Russian yet...maybe with the tíme..bad prononciation and accent...french accent was good but she said two words only and didnt understand the question... anyway she is talented
Her Ukrainian is really bad. She doesn't use conjugations, she mixing Ukrainian and Russian words and her pronunciation in the end sounds more Russian than Ukrainian. At the beginning she said "я можу Україна, Росія, Санкт-Петербург..." that literally means "I can Ukraine, Russia, St. Petersburg" not I want to Ukraine, that in Ukrainian would be "я хочу в Україну, Росію, Санкт-Петербург" or "я хочу до України, Росії, Санкт-Петербурга". And yeah, both of them are not confident in Ukrainian. Source: I'm Ukrainian Still, she is very talanted. Good luck in learning Ukrainian!
yes because uwaga is the same like in poland and means vnymanye in russian but, stare mesto is easily understood in eastern european countries also the word forbidden in ukraina is almost the same like in poland, e.g. torgovaya zaboroneno
As a German i would never think that she is from Austria never mind from Germany but she is able to do some smalltalk in 21 language at the age of 13 that is impressive!
+1! At 19:06 she says "Ich kann sprechen Hochdeutsch" and that is neither Austrian nor German, its simply wrong and typically the wrong order or words like english people do, the correct form is "Ich kann Hochdeutsch sprechen". And the accent is clearly a strong american accent. But anyway, astonishing, but its by far not "Hochdeutsch" and as well not "Austrian",
There hasn‘t been any Austrian accent it was very hard to listen to her because she couldn‘t even finish a sentence but she can speak german thats for sure
Ihre Aussprache in Deutsch ist grundsätzlich gut, aber sie spricht nicht fließend. Aber Sie muss auch sehr viel überlegen, während sie spricht. Das ist auch schwierig, zwischen so vielen Sprachen zu switchen. Sein Deutsch ist besser ;o) Aber sie spricht auf jeden Fall verständlich und es ist sehr erstaunlich, dass sie so schnell viele Sprachen gelernt hat. Her pronunciation in German is generally good, but she is not fluent. But she also has to think a lot as she speaks. It's also difficult to switch between so many languages. His German is better; o) But she definitely speaks understandably and it is very amazing that she learned so many languages so quickly.
@carpe diem chill dude I just think it's funny that he says her German is better than his when it isn't. I'm just trying to say that she has to practice German a bit more to really get fluent. It's just a fact that her German isn't great at the time the video was made.
There's so many words in Portuguese that sounds Spanish but she didn't mix them both. I learned Portuguese because of the 🎶 music. I believe that the music in both languages(Spanish-Portugese)facilitate learning either language. her German is also bad...she seems to have learned everything by heart....a few vocabulary words are repeated several times....that is not speaking fluently, but a text learned by heart
Her accent in Spanish is good, she made couple mistakes but the message was understood. She has a better accent than the guy. But c’mon she is pretty young; I’m pretty sure she will get better in all the languages. I don’t think she speaks all the languages she just knows a few phrases, but still no everyone can remember all those phrases ☺️😉
Her Japanese is still in progress, like lower-intermediate though, it's utterly impressive to hear from 13-year-old who simultaneously speak 20 languages.
I envy this person a lot O_O I'm 14 but I can only speak English, Chinese, Japanese, a little Korean, and Spanish, but I want to be able to speak a lot more. My native language is Chinese + English from a very young age, and I'm mostly interested in Sino-Xenic/Asian languages, because I like the history behind it & I like 漢字 etymology in general. I just like the culture of the Sinosphere >_
When I was 13 I could barely speak in my own language (spanish). Even if she isn't fluent in every language, it's still impressive how she can switch so quickly between languages and understand them all. I hope she keeps getting better and has a bright future ahead of her.
@@nitink.a567 Talking fluently is difficult by itself in any language, as well as writing well. Language is difficult to master, is like an art, you need a lot of practise and field work to be good at it. Just because you can articulate a complete sentence doesn't mean you're fluent. Fluency is much more, fluency is being able to have a whole conversation on any matter without hersitating too much or making basic mistakes. For instance, if you tell me you're fluent in English, I would assume you're delusional, because you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're". Keep practising!
Definitely impressed with the accent. She speaks the Spanish much better than the guy. Her Spanish is years ahead of his. His Spanish sounds like the equivalent of what is taught here in the U.S. Spanish classes. I don't think his goal is complete fluency or native level. Maybe more like, "as long as I get words out that are placed correctly in a sentence, they'll understand me".
As a Spanish speaker her accent is the best part, she still needs pronunciation work. She makes the same common mistakes and less common ones. But she is still very impressive
I think when she’s old enough to travel abroad, she’ll be able to pick up the accents and street lingo and be able to hold a real conversation but other than that, she’s taking a step in the right direction for sure.
Most of her accents are way off. And in most of the languages she supposedly speaks, she's only saying, "Hello, how are you" or a couple other basic phrases. She does seem to know a bit more of 2-3 of those languages, namely German.
It doesn’t a long time to memorize a few sentence from a language if I’m being quite frank. Be grateful you can speak 5 languages, I’m assuming with more fluency than she has. I’m proud of her ability and aspirations but I feel like it matters more when you’re more fluent in the languages you speak, rather than knowing a few sentences. Like knowing a few sentences is great don’t get me wrong like I relate to that, but it’d be better to be fluent.
It's not how many, it's how effortlessly fluent...it's like the professor who spends his whole life dedicated to the study of something and then one day he has a new 14 year old in his class that is a little bored of his 2-dimensional comprehension of the topic
And I am wondering why... How can you feel an idiot? I really don't understand. Yes, this little girl is amazing, because she can do so much at her age. Consider also she is a kid and kids have a lot of free time plus now learning languages became incredibly easy comparted to 20 years ago. Besides, I must also admit I sometimes can't understand her when she speaks Japanese or even German, though her Spanish is quite good despite the errors. So she is very far from being perfect, but who cares? If she is happy that's more than enough for her as well as for most people. Yet I would never say that it makes me feel like an idiot. I think you can be very proud of yourself!
His Vietnamese doesn't seem to have much tone which makes it kinda robotic and there's a part where his grammar was wrong but I wouldn't needlepick too much. Her "em chào chị" is very good, sounds exactly like a native. The rest of her speech is still expressive but I wouldn't say she's there yet. Insanely talented for her age though.

Believe me, this girl doesn’t know the Russian language just as she doesn’t know the Ukrainian language. She knows only a few words in Russian and cannot even formulate a sentence correctly. Yeah because speaking doesn't entail fluency always for every language

That’s besides the point, the simple fact that she knows how to speak that many languages and she’s so young is incredible in itself.
Yes she doesn't speak all these language really fluently (like a Native) , but, she is thirteen years old and can speak 13 Languages good. This is hillerious.

I feel like the russian and ukrainian is pretty good, even german was not bad at all, that's probably all I can rate :D

Which languages do you speak?
Well she is already a polyglot tho.
She’s pretty much perfect in Spanish. You can tell she’s foreign but she sounds like someone who has studied it for several years.

@@darkgreninja8349 I can definitely confirm that, from what I've heard her German is really not that good but neither is his German so the fact that he's saying she's good in German just makes it weightless.

Language is difficult to master, is like an art, you need a lot of practise and field work to be good at it. Just because you can articulate a complete sentence doesn't mean you're fluent. Fluency is much more, fluency is being able to have a whole conversation on any matter without hersitating too much or making basic mistakes.
