After watching this, I'm very glad how respectful the movie was with regards to the Sámi, definitely the best representation of us in media in recent years. Certainly helps that the movie is also all in all excellent, not just in this aspect.
As a Sámi myself and hearing there's going to be a christmas movie having Sámi representation, I first had very complicated feelings about it. Being an arctic people living in Lapland (northernmost parts of Finland, Sweden and Norway) the tourism business has since at least the 70's been exploiting our culture - especially the booming christmas tourism. The industry created a narrative for tourists that our people have very close ties to Santa, being "his little helpers" since our colorful traditional garb can be interpreted as christmas-y. The implication of that was that our people was also fictious (basically elfs), which in turn turned to open season for everyone to mimic and mis-interpret our culture to fit their own narratives (I'm looking at you, new-age shamanistic spiritualists making a mockery of our traditions and mythology). It kinda snowballed from there.
It's better nowadays, but I've still met people (not just tourists but also Finns and Swedes) who think the Sámi are just a story like Santa. Or a dead culture lost to time, and are very surprised to learn we still have a living, breathing culture alive today.

The movie was originally supposed to end with Jesper and Alva getting one final letter from Klaus after his disappearance. Following receipt of it, they travelled to the North Pole and found he had taken up residence there and reunited with him, apparently fully taking on the role of Santa Claus. J.K. Simmons even recorded his lines for this ending. The filmmakers, however, ultimately abandoned it as it required too many magical elements to be introduced at the last moment. In the actual ending, about the only elements of supernatural are Lydia's involvement and Klaus' at the end. (Note that Jesper never actually mentions getting a visit from Santa at the end...he just says he gets to see his friend. It's possible that Klaus just visits him like a ghost similar to how Lydia interacted with Klaus, while the rest of the Santa mythos is like it is today and is just continued by parents.)

Also, idk if anyone said anything or if you figured it out later (I'm at the beginning of the movie reaction currently) but most of this movie is 2D even the lighting, I believe. They made a new program to work the lighting of the film.
Edit: I did look it up to make sure , cause I heard you guys talk about the lighting, and it is a 3D lighting I guess lol whoops

It's set in Norway, according to the makers, which explains the Royal mail, Sami people, whaling and Smeerenburg (a historical whaling town in Norway's Svalbard archipelago).

I'm brazilian, and I don't remember ever writing to Santa, but in my family, we spent Christmas at my grandparents' house since the 80's (when most of the grandchildren were born) and at midnight one of my uncles or my father (mostly my father) dressed as Santa and appeared to give out all the presents to everyone (not only the kids), I'm a woman and when I was a teen, I even became Santa one year because at the time there were no kids anymore, so it was just for the laughs (my aunt was pregnant at the time and I almost made her piss her pants with laughter - which wouldn't be hard, cause, pregnant LOL). My grandparents passed away in 2020 and 2022 and now everyone spends christmas at other places, but my father still dresses as Santa to go to my cousin's house and give out presents to my cousin's children!

One year late to the reaction but I literally finished watching Klaus just now at 4am in the morning a few days before Christmas...Man what a movie, it made me cry multiple times and it made me happy but like actual happiness, happiness that I haven’t felt since I was a kid, and it was because of that so many moments in this movie made me cry, because of how I felt on Christmas when I was a kid, man what an amazing Christmas movie and movie overall❤️

Interesting fact: this movie lost in the Acadamy Awards, to Toy Story 4. Most people believe it's because this was never a theatre movie, it just went straight to Netflix. And it was up against Disney.

I saw this movie, I think around the time it was released and not that I forgot it was excellent or anything, but I had really forgotten how - I don't know, magical it felt. Your reaction made me really want to watch the movie again!
I also loved how they established that larger-than-life quality to Klaus in this story; he’s someone who won’t be easy pickings for this crazy, war, blood-feuding town and I just loved how even the dogs were like - “nope not going to mess with him;” because once he warmed up - that larger-than-life quality remained, but in the more traditional Santa Claus way it has existed before.
    It was just, well-done storytelling.

I myself and like many other people when we were kids, I loved writing a letter/list to Santa and then going to see him at the mall telling him what I really wanted for Christmas wether it be a Sega Genesis or Electronic Talking Battleship. As an adult I believe Santa Clause/Papa Nõel/Chris Kringle/Father Christmas, etc. as a holiday spiritual entity that only exists in the imagination of people who believe in him. Though thinking of Santa and the rest of the holiday season not only brings back nostalgic memories but also creates new one's. Thinking about all this is making me teary eyed. Merry Christmas everyone!

This movie is definitely the new all time classic that will stand the test of time. It doesn't try to play too much into the magical aspect of Santa, and told a realistic story (for a cartoon) of the origin of the Santa mythos, of how a myth form over time and through rumors. Even the ending doesn't explicitly say "And he ascend to become actual Santa." The film respect the audience enough to let them make their own conclusion as to whether the magic is real or that it simply live on in the heart and mind of others.

the film is majority 2d with some 3d elements like sleighs and buildings, the 3d lighting effects were achieved using an interpolation software called "Klaus Light and Shadow" created for the film.
here's an example of the animation before and after applying the software
the director said they wanted to mimic the style of original Disney cartoons to create a nostalgic feel

Even when I'm just watching a reaction... even one that I'm watching after _another_ reaction to Klaus, which _also_ made me tear up. The part that hits me the hardest is right at the end when it says, "All I know is that once every year, I get to see my friend."
I also love that the matriarch of the Krum family was the villain from Adams Family Values XD
