It's been too many years. I was a teenager listening to this to drown out the thoughts in my head, and it still works. The amount of time I blasted this song in my ears is probably concerning, but damn it was worth it.
The crown of emptiness, As night descended slowly Maybe it's an illusion, One fake dream, one grey plastic Reality of tears and of repentance. I felt my life crossing like A stream of sadness Wearing a martyr's crown The crown of sadness The crown of emptiness Mortified by his rudeness Souls sunk in despair Futile actions the enemy of life. Like an ego That's trying to rip Your heart out I felt the fear for what I saw; Trying to save something This incredible heap of mistakes, Stigmatized my soul Wearing a martyr's crown The crown of sadness The crown of emptiness Mortified by his rudeness I felt the plainness and all The errors, of this tragic truth Wearing a martyr's crown I felt the waves of sadness Breaking my heart I felt the fear of what I saw I held my head up high Wearing a martyr's crown This crown [1st solo: Marios] [2nd solo: Olof] I felt the waves of sadness Breaking my heart I held my head up high Wearing a martyr's crown
@coloreel Nightrage was created in Thessaloniki, Greece. But they now reside in Gothenburg. As for the band members themselves: Antony Hämäläinen - Finland Marios Iliopoulos - Greece Olof Mörck - Sweden Anders Hammer - Sweden Johan Nunez - Belgium
I know Antony (the singer). He lives in Chandler, AZ where I live and I have had the opportunity to meet him, chat with him, and get a few vocal lessons after a show he did here (not with Nightrage). He's a cool guy.
You are spot on good sir!! I am a bass player and I think the exact same thing ALL the time!! It annoys me that not many bands showcase the bass much, more bands should definitely do it!!
I'm actually a bassist, and to be honest, it really depends on who the bassist is as a player sometimes. Some bassist prefer to stay in the background and not do anything because it's their preferable playing style. Me on the other hand, I like to do a bit of everything, play in the background, lock in with the drummer for the softer stuff, solo, and add a bit of melody where it's called for. I try not to outshine my guitarist or drummer too much but when it's called for it, I'll do it.
@SinisterSkip im a bass player too, though, getting the bass as loud as this is actually a lot harder than what it seems. It takes some really good production skills to make the bass sound like that.
@SinisterSkip i know what ur talking about. i wish more bands used their bass like a separate instrument instead of just background sound. use more bass intros/outros, more bass solos, or even just bass riffs to coincide with the guitar riffs.
@dora3621 thats not weird at all! just look at ppl, like yngwie malmsteen he plays classic songs with heavy metal riffs! classic is good music too, i also play mozart and beethoven on piano, its good music and pretty hard to play! classical music is pretty awesome, without that metal wouldn't be the same as it is nowdays!
Well that's kinda the point. Since the bassguitar often is just playing exactly what the guitars are playing (maybe an octave lower), you can just as well put some extra bass up in the guitar and scrap the bassguitar alltogether, hence -> yes you don't need it. However, doesn't take away the point that when the bass player actually plays something ELSE than the rhythm guitar, it can really add to the music. In that case it's good that the bassguitar can be heard.
@SimAlias Well, if you check the Death Metal Baboon website, you'll find an interview with Antony up now. Antony beat me to it though, he contacted me first :) Cheers!
@twilightmurderotica Damn, that's so weird, lol, I always thought that the vocalist from The Duskfall had worked with Nightrage before? Whatever, lol. Ironically enough this guy sounds REALLY SIMILAR to the guy from The Duskfall!
Agreed to what I'm reading on here. A lifelong drummer and member of Chasing The End (check us out!!) Drums/Bass are the fusion of ballsack to every song. Wow, Nightrage is reallly good!!
@Jamora The best bands have the bass loud in their mix. We should honor the bass more in metalmusic! Often bass is not more than the lower layer of the guitarriffs. That's such a missed chance imo. The bassguitar can add a lot as seperate instrument with it's own melodies. Even if it plays the same stuff as the guitar, it never hurts to put it in there, loudly. Bass rocks bitches! (and I'm a drummer, not a bassplayer :) )
Anyone realize that the guitarists from death metal bands all look the same? Massive with a full face beard and long hair. I reckon its just the same guy in every band.
True that, long day :) I disagree either way though, bassguitar should be heard. You wanna hear the melody. It's a melodious instrument, not just 'to add some low tones to the guitarriffs".
It's been too many years. I was a teenager listening to this to drown out the thoughts in my head, and it still works. The amount of time I blasted this song in my ears is probably concerning, but damn it was worth it.
Stay metal and thanks
Nightrage is a band that truly loves and appreciates their fans. Metal on!
Thanks so much for the love and support
The crown of emptiness,
As night descended slowly
Maybe it's an illusion,
One fake dream, one grey plastic
Reality of tears and of repentance.
I felt my life crossing like
A stream of sadness
Wearing a martyr's crown
The crown of sadness
The crown of emptiness
Mortified by his rudeness
Souls sunk in despair
Futile actions the enemy of life.
Like an ego
That's trying to rip
Your heart out
I felt the fear for what I saw;
Trying to save something
This incredible heap of mistakes,
Stigmatized my soul
Wearing a martyr's crown
The crown of sadness
The crown of emptiness
Mortified by his rudeness
I felt the plainness and all
The errors, of this tragic truth
Wearing a martyr's crown
I felt the waves of sadness
Breaking my heart
I felt the fear of what I saw
I held my head up high
Wearing a martyr's crown
This crown
[1st solo: Marios]
[2nd solo: Olof]
I felt the waves of sadness
Breaking my heart
I held my head up high
Wearing a martyr's crown

@timwaltham BBE Green screamer overdrive,Dunlop Original Crybaby Wah GCB-95, Providence Anadime Chorus ADC-3,
@dora3621 true thing, watch some videos of yngwie malmsteen ;) then you can see how hard it is!
Anyone realize that the guitarists from death metal bands all look the same? Massive with a full face beard and long hair. I reckon its just the same guy in every band.
2:39 now watch me sing to this fucking stone!
@SinisterSkip As a drummer you have an obligation to worship the bass. As the two instruments are a cohesive unit.
lml
Anthony looks a lot like Jukka from Omnium Gatherum, doesn't he?
no..they are QUITE different
Gotta love Marios' style.
Anthony is my cousin.
