I imagine that all of these games (except possibly for the officially licensed Garbage Pail Kids) are digital file only to be played on emulators since they would need the Nintendo lock out chip to be put on a cartridge? This is one area where homebrews for earlier consoles like the Atari 2600, Commodore 64 and so on have a slight advantage: They can be made into physical cartridges since lock out chips or even licensing were not required.
Its interesting you bring this up. We recently did a panel with modern NES devs you can watch on this channel and we touch on this. The short of it is there have been advances in bypassing the lockout chip and most of these games are available on cartridge to play on original hardware. In fact I have a copy of Full Quiet on cart sitting next to me as I type this. :)
@@TheGameBeaters I figured that lockout chip was only a matter of time to figure out and bypass. Heck, if coders can figure out how to jailbreak an iPhone then a lockout chip from 40 years ago ought to be a piece of cake.

I know I asked a question already, but I have another. So, the availability of some of the games in this video (in cartridge form) is limited, I understand that. That being said, are the games also available for ROM download? If I do that, I should be able to save them to a blank cartridge and play on an NES that way, no? Forgive my ignorance, but homebrewing is completely new to me. I’m also not good with computers, I just use them to stream and stuff, I don’t know how they work.
You can download the majority of these roms at the links in the description of the video. Also if you want to play them on NES hardware I recommend what I use which is an everdrive: amzn.to/3YazpS1 this allows you to load many games on to an SD card and them play them on a original NES. Hope that helps answer your question?
At least 3 games on this list are available on the e-shop. You should put links on the description. Thanks for the video, it's always good to have new games for the NES :) .

@@TheGameBeaters Yeah, that's exactly the point I was making. The phrase "with only 4 buttons use this game is super easy to pick up and play" makes sense only when there are more buttons available, don't you think? I got my Kickstarter copy of Full Quiet about a month ago now and have been playing it quite a bit; I think I'm down to maybe 43% static. SUPER impressive game- basically a survival-horror Metroidvania. Graphics are really nice, music is atmospheric. Puzzles have also been pretty complex, and I sorta feel like a genius after figuring each one out. Stuck on another one now, but I'm sure I'll get through it soon... No guides for it anywhere, either, and I think I prefer it that way- no spoilers! Absolutely worth the 5-year wait 💯💯💯

I am at 82% static and I am stuck in the forest region where there are many platforms in the trees and the safe house is in the trees. I got the sniper rifle and the telescope and have shot the circle targets that drop ladders and one drops a hanging rope. I just don’t know what direction to go to progress. Can you give me tips?
So many new games and demos for NES in modern times. I'm truly hoping that once the recently announced SNESmaker component of NESmaker (will be called Retro Game Forge going forward) will help spur on a similar level of new homebrew development for SNES in the future too.
Maybe someday you can do a list of gameboy homebrew as devs like myself have been teeming behind the scenes to make some new games for the puke and purple powerhouses.
Let's see if this one goes through So the five gameboy homebrew games are as followed -Myte Byte (my first complete game) -fydo's Magical blocks -mud warriors -wink 5.7 -shaman dojo gotta catch'em spirits All these can be found on a site called itch. Unfortunately youtube is acting weird so I can't give you links to the games for whatever reason.
None of these seemed that interesting except maybe the survival horror one, WAIT... ...what's the game at 00:48? That one looked cool! (EDIT: looks like it's "Black Jewel Reborn").

6:21 I cant be the only one who noticed that the music for arm wrestling classic is a rickroll can I?
lol When I first heard this in the soundtrack I knew it had to be included in this video in hopes to get comments like this. :)
What is the game playing at the very end with the purple character bouncing around?
Its a aftermarket NES game from a few years ago called "Kira Kira Star Night DX". Hope that helps!
I played both alwa awakening and Alwa legacy , while awakening is fun legacy just got me glued to my seat until the end.
Thanks for the comment! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed both Alwa's Awakening and Alwa's Legacy. We're glad to see that you had similar experience and glad you enjoyed both games. Keep an eye out for more of our reviews on similar games!
@@TheGameBeaters Alright, thank you. Saturday game night just got seven times better.
@@ace_w_peck You're welcome, great to hear!
Its so fascinating to see modern game design clash with the NES
wow some of these looks really amazing. will deffo have to try them
Awesome! Hope you find some you enjoy!
At least 3 games on this list are available on the e-shop. You should put links on the description.
Thanks for the video, it's always good to have new games for the NES :) .
The game beaters! I like the energy, I can relate 💞 nice job playing home brew games, that’s inspiring
Wow, thank you for the love and for being a fan of The Game beaters! We're thrilled you enjoy our energy, it's great to know that you can relate. We're also glad you appreciate our coverage of homebrew games, we're trying to showcase them as much as we can. Thanks for your support and for watching!💞
@@TheGameBeaters no problem, I made sure to like and comment of course.. btw,
would you guys ever be interested in some sort of collab opportunity, perhaps trying out our first ever NES bike?? You literally run while playing the NES Haha
18:04 What a weird thing to say, considering there are only 4 buttons on a NES controller. lol Dude, are you by any chance just "rewording" Evercade version reviews? Cause Evercade has more than 4 buttons and this phrase could have made sense there, not on a NES.
The simplest explanation is, on the NES controller there is a game pad and 4 buttons. A, B, Select, and Start. All of which are used in this game.
@@TheGameBeaters Yeah, that's exactly the point I was making. The phrase "with only 4 buttons use this game is super easy to pick up and play" makes sense only when there are more buttons available, don't you think? In other words in the context of a NES controller the meaning is "You can use only all the buttons available to you..."
@@kosmosyche hmm I can see that side of it too. Didn't think of it like that. Kind of cool how different minds think about things differently. Thanks for the new perspective.
i can't help but wonder if Bassedef Adventures was inspired by AVGN Adventures
It’s possible. Curious what connection you see to the two?
@@TheGameBeaters the opening cutscene. the story setup. the platforming side scrolling gameplay with shooting. switching between characters. metahumor.
visual style.
i mean, it could be a coincidence, but if this just came out in 2022, then AVGN Adventures has already been put for years. it's possible they might have played it.
That is fantastic to hear! Glad you are enjoying your new NES game. The thing about not having a strategy guide is it kind of puts you back in the day when info on games was a lot more scarce and you have to DIY. There is something very satisfying about that when it comes to gaming. Thanks for watching and your comment!
@@Jagasian hmmm wish I could help you out but have you checked their discord? Lots of people sharing tips and helping one another there! Best of luck!
No Steam release, though..?
@@virtuouspleasant9346 from my understanding its coming.
Can't wait for Halcyon!
Same!
What are the games in the credits? Specifically @19:28
I think that is called Nacronancy
nice I don't have real NES anymore it stopped working however I do have NES Classic Edition will them work on it
its shmup realy that much easier to say that shootem up? haha
Not easier but it is more fun to say. :)
So many new games and demos for NES in modern times. I'm truly hoping that once the recently announced SNESmaker component of NESmaker (will be called Retro Game Forge going forward) will help spur on a similar level of new homebrew development for SNES in the future too.
Yes looking forward to seeing what comes from this as well.
Great vid
Thank you!
Can I download these games as ROMs and play with a nes emulator???
Most of them have digital downloads you can play on emulators. Check the description for links.
@@TheGameBeaters cool. Thanks bud.
Mind blown 🤯
You’re welcome! :)
Maybe someday you can do a list of gameboy homebrew as devs like myself have been teeming behind the scenes to make some new games for the puke and purple powerhouses.
Love the Gameboy! Would be cool if you want to share some info on some starter choice games for something like this in the future.
Odd, youtube seems to be deleting my comment
Let's see if this one goes through
So the five gameboy homebrew games are as followed
-Myte Byte (my first complete game)
-fydo's Magical blocks
-mud warriors
-wink 5.7
-shaman dojo gotta catch'em spirits
All these can be found on a site called itch. Unfortunately youtube is acting weird so I can't give you links to the games for whatever reason.
@@Sinistar1983 You can always reach me at info@thegamebeaters.com
@@Sinistar1983 or this works. lol
None of these seemed that interesting except maybe the survival horror one, WAIT... ...what's the game at 00:48? That one looked cool!
(EDIT: looks like it's "Black Jewel Reborn").
Yes you got it. Cool upcoming Nes project!
Whats the game @ 0:46 ? Edit: fond it in the comments - Black Jewel Reborn

Great content and coverage mate , subbed ! Keep it up !
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it enough to sub. Means a lot. Much appreciated!
Why don't you create a game with same name and appeareance as some videogame store employee?
That Zelda knock off looks hella dope
Hell yeah. It’s a good one!
YES IM READY!!!
Nintendo should negotiate with all this creators and allow play this games on the switch make some money of all this peoples
Woah. Did I see Atrix on the start of one of these games? Blast from the past. Played all their games
Interesting. Mind if I ask what games they are known for? Thanks!
They are web based games mainly. The actual company name is Battle On, but they made a bunch of games, but the first one is Adventure Quest, and if I remember correctly one of the main NPCs is named Atrix
still searching for kylandria lol any info would be appreciated!
Getting Rick-Rolled by Arm Wrestlung Classic!
The games are awesome. I really want to play. Thanks.
