Tex scared me so much as a young child because of how startling and up-close he was on screen in the first two trailers he appeared in, and I didn’t realize that he had a face. I used to have constant nightmares about him grabbing me with his older claw hands and making unsettling noises at me while frozen and stuck in bed.
I’m grown now, but I still feel slightly tense and anxious whenever Tex or the THX trailer are brought up.
I think the reissued Cimarron and Genesis trailers are my two faves! They’re both visually stunning and gorgeous!

Fun fact: The Shrek one was originally going to be used for the first movie, but because thx and disney still had a contract together, disney threaten to end the contract and not work with thx again if they did a logo with shrek

To answer your question, the answer is yes. The pistons inside a car’s engine does actually explode after spraying for a few seconds. My dad actually had an experience with making parts for car engines, so he knows how they work.

Great video. As far as the car exploding inside, this is why it's called "internal combustion engine".

The only thx logo that seriously scared me the most was the moo can. The mooing sounded so demonic when they did the deep note. (My favorites were genesis, amazing life, cavalcade and eclipse because they were equally so beautiful to me! 😮)

I had that THX WOW LD back in the day! I used to showcase it to anyone willing to come to my house. I was 16, I built my own surround sound with all various speakers and parts back when it was 5. Not even 5.1. Just 5. LCR, mono surround. I thought I had had my first audio orgasm, but when I got 5.2 and listened to it, I was like this is the best thing ever. THEN I saw True Lies at the AMC Odeon in Leicester Sq (or was it Piccadilly) which was actually THX certified. Best audio movie-going experience I have ever had. Nothing has topped that for me, and it was only 5.2! Then I built my system for 7.2 but never captured the same. Now I live in an apt with 7.1 headphones. I had all of the Disney Deluxe CAV THX box sets, the ORIGINAL trilogy box set of Star Wars, the definitive, LD in THX. I miss all of those. More than that though, I miss feeling that rumbling bass. One day I'll have it again. Great video. Really wish you hadn't commented during them all, however.

Tex 3 reminded me of a different DreamWorks movie, Bee Movie, because Barry gets sucked into the air conditioning of a car.

In 1991 I saw my first movie in a THX auditorium, at the new Crossroads Cinema in Bellevue, Washington. The former awful Luxury Theaters had finally cleaned up their act as Act III and started constructing multiplexes with at least one THX auditorium. The movie was a new print of Star Wars: A New Hope, and it was the last time it was shown in its original form before the special editions came out. The occasion this time was to promote a new video game, and the showing was at nine in the morning so that more important movies could be shown later in the day that December. They opened with a very pixelated ad for the video game obviously adapted from standard res TV, but it does include new character footage of Darth Vader. Then they showed a very long "trailer" demonstrating THX from various George Lucas movies: The Star Wars series, the Indiana Jones series and (God help us) Willow. What, no Howard the Duck? My mom hated the loudness of the trailer. Later when a Star Trek movie was interlocked between a THX and non-THX auditorium, my mom deliberately chose the non-TXH auditorium.

I've always been interested in THX since i was a kid, seeing you ranking all the trailers and giving info about them is very fascinating, Would kill to watch you going through all the trailers and variants and giving commentary about it. Keep up the good work 👍

I remember being in the theater and seeing Amazing Life for the first time... the theater had a really, really, REALLY good sound system and the experience was incredible.
I remember turning and looking at my friend that I was at the movie with and seeing we both had the same expressions on our faces... sheer excitement and utter surprise. We were both blown away! When the first trombone plant makes its midrange note and the the first mushroom thumps its bass note, the entire theater shook and the sound reverberated through the theater and your body! As far as range of sound... it is the best trailer they have ever made and I know plenty of high-end audio installers that use it on their test discs to evaluate their hard work and showcase the results to their customers.

Thanks for a great collection along with your appealing narrative. I've always admired Lucas for developing the THX initiative - first at theaters I traveled long ways to appreciate, to eventually having a decent home system decorated with a THX poster - this audience certainly listens.

Amazing Life is without question my favorite, definitely biased because of the 2008 Indiana Jones DVD releases that I watched all the time, but goddamn there’s something that’s truly magical about it. As you said, the sounds the plants make sound correct to their design. Not to mention that the lighting and shading on the final THX logo at the end is just flawless.

If my memory serves me well, Trailer #22 was found in the PS3 game, "The Bourne Conspiracy", considering the fact that, as a child, I had quote-on-quote, "THXphobia" a.k.a. "The fear of digital sound" Now, I love the logo as a whole.

You forgot the many international versions connected to movies, the one with the mosquitoes (dragonfly?) being my favourite, the one for the European release of the Crimson Rivers movie being the second best.

I imagine that they built the thx logo and set it up in like a giant empty room with a sound studio hidden out of sight to not break the illusion and just film the trailer there

I respect your opinion on the remixes of the Deep Note. In my opinion, I love the remixes of the Deep Note, mainly because more of them were combined into one, which is what I really like. Also, the Deep Note from Amazing Life and Genesis, sounds similar to the Deep Note from Science of Sensation, but remixed a little more, which is what you've forgot to mention in this video.
