    Dont forget you're dealing with streaming and downloads and millions of options now. When I achieve my goal - dream with a deadline - I will thank GOD for everything, including speaking to me through Dream Big.
    "Everything is impossible until someone does it."
    "In order to achieve the impossible, you must be willing to attempt the absurd."
    "Surround yourself with people who challenge you, and it will change your life forever."
    I keep looking for the next Venice CA circa the 70s. The film Dream Big made me read the book Pumping Iron front to back hanging out at the beach including Padre Island TX, Venice Beach CA, and Ocean Beach San Diego CA. It was a nice summer. 2023.

    Took Sprague , Weider , Arnold and the Pumping Iron Film to make the whole industry take off ! Look @ the Gym Industry today . Started to work out in 1970 and was a laughingstock to all my peers . Funny how that all changed after Pumping Iron and Arnold became household names !

    • @carvedouttastone
      @carvedouttastone  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes bodybuilding has to be dragged out of the dungeon, kicking and screaming, only to crawl back under its rock at record speed. The process of working out,. like you said, has become mainstreamed - it's just a shame that the efforts of those pioneers like Sprague etc were so quickly derailed as Marc explains in the interview. Thanks for your comment Joyce

    The biggest difference between PI and DB is that PI was a lot of scripted drama, not real. DB was all reality.
    The biggest disappointment I have about Arnold is that I can never trust anything he does or says. He is all hollywood. I value honesty.
    Great interview. These stories are always interesting.

      That's a great point. I think my remarks towards the end of the interview about Conor Hefernan's comments sum up the value of Marc's documentary perfectly - the history and backstory are more interesting than the sum of all the contrived drama Pumping Iron needlessly manufactured.

    @01:09:30 There's more. The "relaxed" posing round has been totally destroyed by virtually fully flexed poses. That entire posing segment was supposed to show the aesthetics, proportion, and symmetry as one might have observed the contestant outside of a competitive stage. Flaring their thighs by pointing their knees out to the sides is clown like. Now the front 'relaxed' pose is like a front lat spread, minus the hand touching the waist. I can only assume it started with various under-endowed contestants trying to make more for what they didn't have. The calves comment is right on and such contestants shouldn't be on national+ caliber stages. Having high calves isn't any excuse for them not being developed to their best potential. Sad for what could have been perceived as a more respectable endeavor.

      Thanks for saying that! Yeah, the fitness content niche has become stale recently, so hopefully some of this nostalgia is reawakening the dormant love us older guys once had for the sport. I was thinking of doing a video on Tommy Kono and interviewing John Fair on his new book about this classic old school lifter
