Excellent interview with Jon McBride. Thanks for going over this drone. We’ve actually purchased this drone, and expect to receive it in just a short time since it’s essential for us because of what it can do (and what it will hopefully do in the future). This question is not just for RMUS but @JonMcBride as well: Can we get a dedicated Zoom payload/gimbal for the Evo Max that can do, perhaps, 20x-30x optical zoom (with, of course, expanded digital zoom distance)? I would really like to stress that this is the drone we chose and with the easily swappable payloads, we are desperately hoping for an option like that in the future. This drone does some amazing things, and some of us, perhaps more than I can imagine, will need that closer reach with rich detail on certain missions.

Thanks for this in depth walkthrough. On the face of it this drone has real potential to capture a good chunk of the enterprise market, not least of all due to the swappable payload. I’m in the market for mapping and modelling capable drone, the 4T could well be the one, so I was wondering when we might expect to see a payload with a global, mechanicals shutter with a suitably size sensor for photogrammetry, something along the lines of a p4pro camera. The swappable and long flight time battery is also very appealing.
This is certainly one to watch, I would love to see a list of payloads. This has a huge advantage over others in its class... no need to purchase 3 drones when you can swap payloads. Please please just don't change chip sets.... I would love to have it future proofed a bit 😊
Nice review, as of the date of this post, The hot swap & 12 MP to max MP adjustment is not working out of the box. When will those firmware fixes be available?
Thanks for the question. We haven't been able to retrieve that specific information yet. Our follow up videos on the EVO Max 4T have covered some features released as part of firmware updates, and we believe that will continue to happen. We are told the mesh networking feature was made available by firmware update last week, so perhaps some of the features you mentioned will be available now. We have been watching and waiting for the promised AR features as well and hope to give you guys updates on all of it soon.
It is RTK capable. Jon McBride did mention that they will probably release a Payload that’s more suited to mapping. So I took that to mean that they may release a payload that has a mechanical shutter. But, for those like me, I’m really looking to expand the zoom ability by sacrificing the thermal and rangefinder cameras.
First impression: 2 screws to hold on the payload to me would indicate potentially a lot more damage to payload and frame in case of a crash. i would have thought a minimum of 3 screws. Still, I do look forward to getting to see and test one.
I would like to know if this drone can be charge via usb-c and if its batteries can be used as powerbank. This is a major deal when u are traveling with less weight as possible.
The Max 4T will require the included Autel charger to charge the batteries. In regard to the question of power sharing from those batteries when charged, it actually is possibly to do so if you plug a USB C cable into the Autel charger while it is connected to a battery that is turned on. That is in fact a very little known feature, so thanks for the question!
You can find the networks that each specific drone can connect to by viewing the "GNSS" info on their specifications page. The EVO Max 4T, for example, lists GLONASS, Galileo, and Beidou (the Chinese satellite network).
Based on thier performance with the EVO II v3, it wil dissappoint. After better than 18 months the EVO II v3 is still NOT complete. There are still missing ADVERTISED features, many Explorer bugs, the RTF performance via NTRIP is unreliable, only just now announcing a CARE package, and more. So now I hear there will be a different Explorer Enterprise app, ( also missing advertised features at introduction). Will it replace the current one used for the EVO II v3 Enterprise models? Maybe resources were dedicated to trying to sell a new platform(s) instead of FINISHING the last one! If they want to compete with the competition and be a player in the pricey Enterprise market (seems so) they better COMMIT to the user experience BETTER than others do. This is just like all their previous product introductions, full of marketing hype, probably short on delivery. LISTEN MAX! (not the drone, the CEO), vastly improve Post Sales Support. Why is the VP of Training doing marketing reviews?
The drone is crappy. One dropped from 50 meters high when using return home. The second one flew away into outer space by itself. Trying to return the other two that we got… distributor can’t reimburse missing and broken drones…
How come no one pushes these guy to sell repair parts ? ? Heck they wont sell cheap parts, can't imagine sending one in for repair, Standard Reply from Autel, We can swap it out ! Why aren't they authorizing repair centers all over the US like DJI.
Phenomenal information! Really looking forward to gaining some stick time with this impressive drone tech.
I'm intrigued. Definitely considering it for the govt contracts that can't use DJI
The big boy of of having a hot swap is actually not losing the the routes the drone has already traveled and starting from scratch 🤫

Who did you order this drone from?

Sounds awesome. Hopefully they make it a priority to get a spotlight payload available for it asap.

Finally someone to do a review

Will swappable payloads in the future include Lidar?
At the present time, the only payloads announced are the 4T and 4N, but we believe many more are to come.
Can any drone connect to Chinese GPS I hear it is way more accurate

Are you talking about this especific drone ? Autel EVO Max 4T ?
Oh wait… it’s a biased review
