Making a Very Different Type of Feather Board - Woodworking
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 янв 2021
- The top of my saw is plastic, so magnets don't work and the plastic is very slippery, so nothing locks in the miter slot. Instead I made this very uncommon type of "feather board" to keep the stock against the fence when needed.

I am a legally blind wood worker and this idea excites me a lot for the safety factor. I will have to reinvent it a little for my use, but the possibilities are quite exciting to me.
Brilliant, Simple, inexpensive and Effective John...... however I’m not surprised when things like this come from you.....
The spring part of the featherboard is pure genius! Makes me wonder what will "spring" from the mind of John Heisz next !! (see what I did there? lol) Thanks for the video, John !
doesn't need to move a lot but just have that bit of give.
@@wobblysauce ...no move..no give...just press slightly ! Lol !
Extremely simple but beautiful.
That is the first feather board I’ve seen that I like in all aspects; simple and functional with no fudging around. Brilliant. I think I’m done using my commercial and homemade feather boards. Thanks!
Feather board but also as a safety feature. Acts as a guard too ! Making mine tomorrow morning. Thks John for this idea.
For me the best woodworking channel so far...thanks for the inspiration. God bless you
Hello friends. let us be grateful to our friend who posted this video sharing knowledge. It doesn't cost anything to like and make a simple comment. It is the least we can do in gratitude for his work. thank you!
Helloo 😊
Neat Idea. My Table Saw has an Aluminium Table Top, so no Magnet Feather boards there....this should do!
I know it makes less sense and more work to do it this way, but if you had made the feather board look more like a mini table saw fence that looked like yours, that would have been pretty cool looking. Not to mention kind of funny. Love the videos! and Love the way your mind works! Keep it up!
That is actually a really neat idea.
Another incredible, practical tool for the shop! Thanks, John for sharing this idea of yours.
Great idea John
Simple and elegant design John. Too many 'creators' want to over complicate this simple jig.
Thanks Kip :)
what a simpler and useful thing, just great. the spring is perfect.
I don't do woodwork, but still loved watching you make this gadget!
This is a great design. I was just looking at feather boards yesterday to help more consistently rip long and/or thin stock, but this might be perfect for what I need.
Great idea and perfectly executed. I would imagine that this would also do quite well as a thin rip guide.
I was always worried about your thumb guide getting 1/2" too close to a spinning blade. Glad to see it in the bin !!
Bloody great idea and build. You’re a fair dinkum inspiration, John. And entertaining.😊 Thank you.
I loved this video. Thank you. Your editing skills are incredible. Great work all around.
Genius idea & execution John!
Happy new year and thank you for sharing.
You are a very inventive engineer! Great design, well executed. Thanks for sharing!
Thats a nice addition to the table saw
Beautiful idea and build.
Great work on the feather board John! Thank you for sharing the video with us and Happy New Year!💖👌👍😎JP
Great build. Nice job!
Brilliant idea
Great idea John. And a helluva lot less expensive than those yellow and green ones!
Beautiful video as always.
Simple and effective, veri nais!
Another brilliant idea for an inexpensive, safety jig!
Production jig. It insures correct production of parts. Any safety is perceived or a 'bonus'
Great on, John.
So Creative. i need one of these.
Beautiful work || thanks you for sharing
Great project! Happy New Year!
That looks great.
Dang! That's Genius! Henceforth, I feel it is more appropriate to refer to you as "Dr. Heisz".
Nice work thank you 👍☺️
Great idea, many thanks.
very clever, congratulations!
Such a cool idea. Will work for my job site saw that I can put feather boards on either. Could even be used as a stop block for a repeated cut as well.
Terrific idea & great design John! If I couldn't use the magnetic ones that I have, I would make that!
Nice Idea John👍
Wow, I need to make one of those!
I like it John, all the best for the New Year
Thanks for sharing
Always building the better mouse trap. Very nice!!
Really fantastic idea, John! 😃
Nicely done!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Very good John....👏👏👏
Love it 👍
John, what can i say but inspiring. Have a good year in 2021. From the valleys in South Wales
Great idea!!
Good work👏👏👏
Very cool! I like it.
Very clever!
Cool idea
Very cool concept and execution as always John. Happy NewYear btw
Same to you, Roy and thanks!
Fantastic idea and cool content bro
Happy New Year John.
I liked the idea.
Neat Idea!!!!!!!!!! As Usual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Could have used that just the other day when I was resawing some strips! I will be using it next time!
I see myself making a pair! neat idea!
Very clever.
Excelente maestro
Saludos desde México
Interesting featherboard. We posted this video on our homemade tools forum this week :)
Интересный прижим 👍, для вертикальных заготовок.
Neat idea!
I have nothing to say really, but I appreciate your content, and wish to help with the yt-algorithms.
🙏🤝🤝😊
Dude, you are THE SAW WIZARD!
Idea Geniale
I was already asking myself when will he post something, missing you man! Don’t take so long..
Brilliant!
Thanks Brendan!
Genius!
This looks very ingenious. Thanks for sharing. I'm looking for a solution to slice of some old flooring boards (appr. 16 x 2.5 x 1 inch)
The (former) bottom part of each flooring board is "polluted" with a mix of glue and or cement. it's "not possible" to sand it down that would take ages.
i didn't find a chemical way to get rid of it. So the only way to have usable (but thinner) boards is to slice away the bottom part.
The flooring boards have tongue and groove. The (former! top part is lacquered, smooth and straight. That side should be placed against the fence.
The groove side should stand on the table top. I can't flip it unless I cut of the tongue, which is extra work. Maybe.
فكرة رائعة : )
Um like do Brasil. Parabéns 🎊👏
Nice! Design kinda like the guard you see on European jointers.
Nice!
very clever.
muito boas ideias
I miss your video happy new year sir 👍👊
ok ... you should get a Nobel prize for that one
Very, very nice, John!
If you ever do a v2.0, I bet you could find a way to incorporate a quick-release so you can clear it from the saw lickety-split (for ripping wide stock).
I like it!
Thanks Jim :)
I like it.
that was smart.
Very nice! This would be a good solution for my DeWalt jobsite tablesaw(aluminum top). I wonder if the spring/material guide portion were made to where the plastic was against the material it wouldn't need the slippery tape, as the plastic itself is slippery. Just a thought.
I did like the "thumb thing". I imagined wooden gloves or mittens even. Purely for the silly factor.
I love your channel(s)!
I thought the narrowness of the prop rod would allow it to flex more than it does. If bending ever exhibited as a problem, you could add something to engage that miter slot. Even a friction fit, half-lap piece would "brace" the whole apparatus in that miter slot.
You are overthinking it / solving problems that don't exist. Hardwood this thickness doesn't bend easily.
Brilhante idéia, já tive necessidade de fazer estes cortes , e fiz com muito cuidado. OBRIGADO PELA IDEIA. PARABENS. 👏👏👏👍👍👍🤔🤔🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Great jig, this seems to be great for cutting your own edge banding. Plans?. Nice to see the router table cameo ... Appreciated the screw driving.
Хорошее приспособление.
I would probably use something similar to a normal featherboard for the "feather" part, just to get the added benefit of the anti-kickback that this otherwise nice contraption lacks.
Good idea though, even though I don't think it would work with the aluminium table of my Dewalt DW745 Type 4. :)
Laminate flooring would be an excellent alternative for the sliding feather surface(and is cheap, strong and amazingly useful as a material for all kind's of things...)
Great idea. I was just wondering about the two tightening knobs. Would a quick release (like in your straightedge) be too hifi solution to save five seconds while setting the thing up?
With a few measurements added to the bar, it might make a good thin rip jig.
You should make a jig that hand using completely eliminated like a feeder
Just thinking of a modification to this, adding a ruler to the arm referencing the left side of the blade, with a fine adjustment window, would allow for quick thin strip setups.
