There is saying that you keep your friends close and your enemies even closer! Dude! The weather is now your enemy. When it comes??? Move!!! Do not stick it out!!! MOVE! Stay ahead, plan and move. So awesome to see ya'll made it and docked pretty good too. Drop the worry wart crap and breath!!! 👍👍👍
Love you guys! Not only are you cute together, you're real. Many of the channels I watch/watched have sanitized videos (and I'm sure you do too however..). It's nice to see the worry, the self doubt and personal satisfaction when you learn something new or accomplish a goal. But dude, you need to relax!!! You are wound too tight. The advice from your neighbor boat was right on. If weather set backs are going to upset you, you're going to stay upset. The first time you force your "schedule" and ignore the weather, you will regret it. Just hope you live to regret it! Worry about staying safe, not on time. That said, you two are doing great!! Have fun and keep the videos and raw emotions coming... Paul & Linda s/v The Friendly Confines.
I really like the looks of that Beneteau Oceanis. Mandi seems like a rock solid first mate. Live by those final words of the video. There is a LOT to see and learn out there both of the world and yourselves.
I have just binged watched all your videos. Just like to say you guys are so authentic and its been enjoying watching you learn along the way both mistakes and successes. Really enjoyed this channel you have a new subscriber. Thanks.
Our ap was making the occasional un-commanded hard right turn and it took me months to figure out that I had run the new bilge pump wiring too close to the ap compass. And, nothing like seeing that clear blue Bahamian water! We”ve been crossing over since 1987 and it still gives me a thrill everytime. Enjoyed your video!
Wow! Those unexpected AP turns are unnerving! We've had it happen twice, also hard right, and always in the worst spot. We never found any reason for it, but it hasn't happened since (fingers crossed). That deep blue water is breathtakingly beautiful!! We couldn't help but stare in to it. Glad you enjoyed the video, hope you keep watching :) ~Mandi
Indeed, Captain Z is great. And we’ve come a long way since this time. Things started out tough, but only got better. More on that soon. Thanks for watching. -Brian
Nice video y’all. Your fear is so normal at this stage in your sailing life! In a few years it will be “you remember that first crossing” while you’re riding out a squall drinking coffee like a boss with a broken auto-pilot with nothing but a semi furled headsail doing 10 knots. I only hope when you get to your destination, Mandy still does the victory dance of joy! Enjoy that blue water, you deserve it!
Thanks Bob. We're a few months behind on the videos and we've been though a lot since. But good things, even the hard stuff has been a great learning experience for us and we're feeling great about the future. I'll have to work on holding my coffee in a squall. -Brian
You live on a boat so if not happy change your plans, that is the beauty of your new life style. Never cast your life in stone, live, love laugh till you never have regrets.
Take the Waters Absolutely Brian, really loving it mate.....the honesty and genuine feel is great to watch and something I think so many can relate to. Spreading the word about yours and Mandi’s channel like wildfire. Safe sailing ⛵️ 🇦🇺
Absolutely! It's been amazing finally experiencing our dream becoming a reality. We worked hard for a long time for this to happen. Can't wait to keep sailing and living! ~Mandi
Like the channel guys (the DYI Watermaker video was epic!), keep up the good work and always remember, experience is a tough teacher... she gives the test first, and the lesson comes later - stay safe!
Great advice. We’ve been taught a few good lessons but things are looking great these days. Ill be getting those videos up asap. But today we’re gonna sail around and have some fun. -Brian
the morale will grow once they gain more experience and trust within themselves! i think it good to be showing this thou! it'll be interesting to see the difference in a years time or more :)
The funny thing is, if you want to see your whole comment, beneath where you write "show us more", is a button, called "show less" :D But I do not want to click it, since I agree with you :)
Thanks for saying! When we started filming our journey, we really just wanted to be honest. So right from when we bought the boat, we turned the camera on didn't hold back any feelings. We have good times too! It's not all worries... and we're super excited to be out finally sailing!! ~Mandi
Brilliant, reminds me if all the nerves I had with my first “off shore” (strictly speaking it was coastal, just couldn’t see it). Right down to the full time harness slung and MOB EPIRB on the hip etc. personally... no point owning it if you don’t use it, so keep setting a good example for newbies everywhere.
Thank you! Yeah our first gulf stream crossing was wonderful. It's easy to get worked up about it, you hear a few sailor stories and you wont wanna leave the marina haha. We try to be very safe, we have MOB's in the jackets too. Our worst fear is falling off the boat when the other is below deck. If we had more people on board it wouldn't wear them as much. -Brian
Will you just monitor the area damaged by your chain until your next haul out, or will you haul out early to repair it? Looks like your crossing was pretty smooth. What all is involved with entering and clearing customs? Looking forward to your next installment.
We dove it and didn't see any real damage, just the paint has been scrapped off. We'll haul it out eventually and repaint the bottom. We had an awesome crossing! We arrived in March of 2020, before COVID became big for clearing customs. We entered like you normally would, went through regular customs (which was at West End's Old Bahama Bay Marina). Paper work, showing passports, etc. So glad you're enjoying the videos! Make sure you get notified for when the next one comes :) ~Mandi
Not yet, but it’s funny you mention this, we’ve been talking a lot about it lately and is something we are ready to if we find ourselves in that situation. We’re now finding ourselves in the Bahamas, so I’m sure we’ll be trying that out soon. -Mandi
Unfortunately I never knew I had such anxiety until we started ocean sailing haha. But things have been getting much better as we're getting much more comfortable. I think you'll see that in our next few videos -Brian
Hi guys, so nice to see you two living your dream! Go on with it. I think from Minute 9 up to 10 in this Video you guys are wearing headsets. Cause we are thinking about buying some for our boat, it would help to hear about your experiences with those, you are using and please tell us about the type and the Model please. Thanks and have a great time in the Bahamas. Best wishes from SY Lille Drøm in the Baltic sea, Rolf
To be fair, day sailing is awesome! Even if that's all you ever do. We're finally in a place where we just go out to sail, pull the spinnaker, tack more than needed, have tons of fun, and have drinks at the end of the day to celebrate just sailing. We're getting to these vids asap, promise. -Brian
I can’t stand it when people say you deserve it. You don’t deserve it, you earned it. You’ve worked really hard to get where you are now and it’s paying off. So, pat yourselves on the back, enjoy the moment and then great back to work fixing the things that broke on the last passage. 😂😂👍👍✌️✌️btw, did you design your fresh water maker system or buy a system? 👍👍
Thanks, Clay!! We’re earning more and more everyday - we’ve been working our bums off for years! Lots of good times have come since then and we can’t wait to start sharing those videos too. The water maker we designed ourselves, and bought the parts needed to build our own system. We used CruiseRO, highly recommend their products! -Mandi
Those are the "marriage savers headsets sena sph10" They do an okay enough in the wind, not prefect but get the job done. Great for going up the mast too. -Brian
Glad you made it.. BUT.... never ever put another flag over Our national Ensign, I guess they don't teach flag Etiquette and rules in sailing schools also.. Its ez to remember, it flys under no one ....
Thank you. It's hard to hear we messed up the flags. Among the many things we we're doing before we left was looking up the flag Etiquette. Looks like we read that one wrong, eek. But we'll not make that mistake again lol
Heed the words of your neighbor about Neptune. Brother you got this. When you are down feed off your wife's energy. I don't want to see you give up your life's dream.
Thanks John. I think I my point I was trying to get across was this first year of sailing is really hard, but I may have over drama'd the video a bit lol. But we're loving it, we're not giving up and Mandi does have an incredible energy which I always feed off. Stay tuned, it gets better. - Brian
Again - why all the motor - sailing. You need to get the sails up as soon as you can and only drop them at the last minute. I know it is scary (VERY scary) at times . But the only way to learn is to try it. To be honest, you guys have it easy - try sailing in UK waters.
Hi form Turkey-not turkey:)- As far as I see you are tall and although I want buy a boat very much, I did not buy because I thought I would not be comfortable on the boat. How tall you are? to compare with myself and what size boat should I buy to not stay on my kness.? :) I'm 6 feet 6 inches.
Hi Cem! Brian’s also very tall, a few inches less than you. We had looked at a few other smaller sailboats, and he had to duck under each doorway. On this boat, the Beneteau Oceanis 46, he still bumps his head occasionally, but it’s much more comfortable than the other boats. I think I good way to start seeing which boats you’re comfortable in are to find some for sale and take a little tour of it. Imagine yourself being there for a while, and see how you’d feel. Good luck!! And congrats on starting your boat buying journey! -Mandi
@@TakeTheWaters Thanks Mandi. You are so kind. I hope I'll catch up all your videos in these pandemic times. İ saw myself when Brian having shower and dropt the soap. obviously Wè can not protect our butts 😁
When we're out cruising and not expected to be in marinas we store them. Back when this video was filmed we would put them in the lazarrette's. Since then though, we find we like them a lot better when their tied to the arch all snug and tight on the transom. ~Mandi

Could you please tell me the name of the Chart-book you are using @ 3:40? Thank you
