The Beatles 'You Can't Do That' Backing Vocals Now Separated From John's Vocal In New 2024 Remix

One of the highlights of the 2023 remix of the 'Red' and 'Blue' albums was "You Can't Do That". The drums were nicely elevated and moved to the center, along with the bass, making for a much more energetic mix than the stereo versions released prior. For my remix, I made no changes to the instrumentation; I only remixed the vocals to add some air and stereo stage presence. I separated the backing vocals from the center channel lead vocal and shifted them more towards the left. Additionally, during the chorus, I spread the three voices entirely across the stereo sound stage, with Paul in the left channel, John in the center, and George in the right. I believe this provides an interesting alternate vocal experience for this great 1964 recording from The Beatles. My mix emulates a mixing style common in the 60s, and I believe that if sound engineers had more tracks to work with during that time, it would have been mixed in a similar way. My main issue with the 2023 remixes is that I believe more separation of the voices should have been explored. Hopefully, those of you who share my belief will find this new mix enjoyable. As always, no artificial pseudo-acoustics have been used. I have added nothing that was not part of the original to enhance this remix. It is strictly a de-mixing of each of the vocal parts and a remixing of those elements. Thank you for listening!
George's jangling riff, Paul's thumping bass, John's choppy lead, Ringo's relentless beat, these guys were beasts. Thanks for another showcase clip.
Thank you for listening and watching! You're absolutely right about that combination! Never gets boring even after 60 years of listening!
Nobody can sound like this Band........the harmony and music just makes you want to play everything the Beatles have ever made....
John lead vocal with Paul and Geirge double back harmony simply out of this World....
Amazing how their voices blend so beautifully together.
Compatible timbres, like family members have
That's what made their music so amazing
One of John's finest tracks. Badass tune sounding better than ever!
You my friend are #1. These are the best videos I've seen of our boys. I know Paul and Ringo would love them.
Thank you so much! Hopefully they would but I doubt if they would ever see them! Thank you for watching!
@@britt2001b really fantastic!! You did an absolutely amazing job with the music & the videos!!
@@mouchiecat1 Thank you so much!
@@britt2001b....I DOUBT IT TOO (THAT THEY WOULD HAVE SEEN THIS ...AND ALL YOUR 40 WONDERFUL TRACKS AND VIDEOS UP TO DATE !...BUT IF THEY EVER DID ...THEY WOULD LOVE THEM AS MUCH AS I DO FOR SURE !....THEY MIGHT PUT IN A GOOD WORD FOR YOU TO BE HIRED BY ....APPLE 🔥💥👍🏻✌🏻🙏🏻👏🏻
you can't beat the visual and vocal power of Paul & George at same mic.
Love John's vocals! He once said he hated his voice! But I love his voice! John is the real deal! Nothing fake about him! Nothing fake about The Beatles!
I always loved this song - one of the best of this LP
You have done it again. God bless Rock and Roll!
The Beatles, my favorite band of all time. Thank for sharing this awesome video.
My pleasure! Thank you for listening!
This is one of most uncompromising slabs of English rock and roll.
Just listened to the official 2023 mix. This here is so much better, the separation of the vocals, and above all for the first time the bass so crystal clear. Amazing!
Thank you! I really respect the 2023 remix of this. I thought it was a major addition and a highlight of the entire album but I was disappointed that the vocals weren't separated more. Isolating and separating the vocals was my only addition to the 2023 remix. I didn't touch the bass but you possibly could be hearing a rare example where RUclips compression adds something! Thanks for your comment and thanks for listening!
It's good but nowhere near as powerful or as spatial as the 2023. Listen with a high end stereo or Dolby Atmos with top buds and you'll clearly hear the difference.
The way they progressed in their creativity while under tremendous pressure is absolutely mind boggling and all in 7 years in the studio with a brilliant producer in George Martin…all groups that followed really know that these legends can’t be topped 😊😮
I love this song with its hard edge and emotion in the lyrics. One of John's best songs in my opinion. This was the B side to the single Can't Buy Me Love. - a catchy pop tune, but You Can't do that is a better song.
Don’t think so! There is a reason it was B-side. But, I do like the song.
@@stephenbroughman3231 Can't Buy Me Love was the A side because it was the better choice for a light , pop tune needed for a Hard Day's Night. You can't do that is a much better song musically and lyrically... which doesn't always translate to chart position.
Absolutely loving these incredible mixes. Best band ever and it’s not even close and never will be
Glad you're loving these, thanks!
From about 1:44 to 1:50 Paul and George are softly singing an "oooooooo" harmony I have not previously noticed.
6-decade Beatles fan here. By far the best I've seen of this type video.
'THEIR NAME LIVETH FOR EVERMORE'
Thank you! I've enjoyed The Beatles in seven decades, 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's, 10's, & 20's! Thanks for listening!
@@britt2001b@britt2001b Thanks so much, Britt! It's the best version of one of my favorites. I lip-synced the song in front of the mirror with my Bealtle wig when I was 9. I have been a fan of mop-tops for seven decades. Your work is much appreciated!! God Bless. Dr. Art from Chicago.
@@ArthurLurigio Thank you, you're listening is appreciated!
3:04 of perfection .
Driving beat , glanging guitars
Outstanding lead vocals , beautiful harmonies . Cowbell .!! Such a well put together song , only one of many 😅🎉
It is remixes that you do. It’s the first time I can hear what a great voice John had. By separating it out, his voice becomes so much clearer.
Thank you so much for listening!
One of my favorite Beatles songs. Thanks.
Thank you for listening!
Not bad for a B-side cut.
So nice to get clarity on Paul's bass.
Great re-creation from the Greatest Band in the universe. Thank you, more, more, more
Thank you too! I'm glad you're listening!
Amazing job! For first time can hear ringo's boot on the bass drum pedal!1 SO clear!! How did he hammer the cowbell all during the song though
Thank you!
Aparte de ser un rock & roll fantástico, cada vez estoy más convencido que Ringo es top 5 en la historia. Saludos desde Argentina. 🇦🇷❤🎸🥁🤘🤘🤘
They are just genious.
More Cowbell!! (Couldn't resist) Seriously, great remix.
I was waiting for that! Thank you!
John still lives on my god that was just brilliant.
Yeah that sounds great. The vocals are good with John on the right and George and Paul to the left. The drums sound better than the original too.
I think A Hard day's night is my 3rd favourite Beatles album. (After Revolver and Rubber Soul 1 & 2) John was at the height of his vocal and writing powers, he's really throwing himself into it.
Thank you! Yes, John not only gives a great vocal performance in this song but he also plays lead guitar in which he also excelled in expressing a very unique style! Thanks for listening!
I was a nine year old fan in 1964. Let's say fanatic would be more to the point since Ed Sullivan. The Beatles Second album was played everyday so I would say it's my favorite. She Loves You is my favorite song of all, and every song they did is loved just as much!
HDN is a banger! Every song is top notch. Paul is my favorite Beatle, but John definitely brought the goods on this album.
@@abc456f I agree. If I had to rank the albums it's - Revolver #1, Rubber Soul #2 and A Hard day's night #3. And yeah I think this was John at his best.
@@54WMD You are my age (perhaps a few months older if your birthday was in late 1954). She loves you is a brilliant track and arguably the best pop song ever recorded. (well I have argued it anyway)
I’ve said it once, but I’ll say it again: this channel is the best, the bass, the vocals everything is amazing, screw the 2023 mixes, I’m going with these mixes ❤ keep up the good work
Thank you so much for this nice comment! It's greatly appreciated. I'm glad you're listening!
George's backing vocals are given a new treatment. Excellent
the amazing of George Martin's recording techniques was to give them a timeless sound. Nice, clean and simply recorded. The ONLY thing that dated them were the stereo mixes up until the White Album.
ABSOLUTELY *F A B*
MATE ....RINGO'S RELENTLESS DRUMBEAT 😱😱😱💥🔥🎵😭😭😭🥳 AND DANCING UP AND DOWN ONBTHE CHAIR ....WHILE AT IT ....BEST DRUMMER EVER ....HE STILL IS 😭🥳🎵💥🐐😱❤️
You are just amazing. It’s like discovering a new band all over again thank you thank you thank you.
My pleasure, thank you!
These guys are a pretty good band. Nice mix. ;-)
Thanks!
LOVELY THE BEATLES ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Another excellent remix. The Beatles created a lot of great music, but your re-mixes bring another dimension to their work. Thanks!
Thank you for this kind comment! I'm glad you're listening!
Well done. I never tire of listening to the Fab Four.
Always pay attention to the description britt kindly provides of his work on recordings. Particularly, with this song (headphones on and with the visuals), the experience is like being in the studio when they made the recording. Musical history preservation (and not alteration).
You make their songs sound fresh and exciting again. As if I’d heard them for the first time. Hope Paul n Ringo hear your work use your skills.
Thank you very much!
You said it well. As I listen and watching the video's, I am mesmerized again!
You’re really highlighting the brilliance of their backing vocals. Such impassioned energy. It can be so easy to take them granted, so any chance to hear them in a new light is gratefully accepted.
Thank you, I'm glad they're appreciated! Thanks for listening!
These are the best mixes I have ever heard
At last the bass is heard very clearly and guitars are fine. Drums sound tight . Not mention vocals. Everything is just superb. Great work.
Thank you but credit for the bass, guitars, and drums should go to Giles Martin. I only modified the vocals on this recording. He did such a fine job of adding energy, balance, punch and excitement to the instrumentation it was just useless to change it! Thanks for listening!
I've always said that there's "The Beatles" and then there's everyone else.
Truer words were never spoken. In a league of their own.
I agree. Your remixes maintain the original vibe, but just highlight the subtle things that clearly bring the songs just enough of depth & character missing even with the stellar new Giles Martin Mixes. The highlight to me, though are the amazing videos you are making to go with them. Bringing old footage to life with the sparkling audio has me watching them again and again. I must say Work on all the other artists are equally revealing and fun to watch. Keep them coming and thanks for all the hard work.
Thank you so much for this kind comment! I'm glad you're getting joy from my remixes. Thanks for the multiple listens!
Damn! That Ric 12string rings!
You do outstanding mixing work! Thank you for all your efforts!! 🏆
Thank you, it's my pleasure! Thank you for listening!
Excellent on all measures…I’ve rewatched it several times.. Sounds and sight all fantastic…
Thank you so much! I'm glad it warrants re-watching!
Bravissimo!!!! Number One, tecnica sopraffina nel suono e nel video. Applausi da standing ovation!!!!
Grazie! Il tuo commento è molto apprezzato!
Good work my friend. Live footage looks like it's from the Melbourne '64 gig and you've synced it perfectly. One of their best songs from that period, too. Thanks for what you do. I'm basically speechless but thank you for your excellent work.
Thank you for your kind words and thanks so much for listening and watching!
One of my favorite songs, mixed and presented to perfection!👍👍
Thank you!
This is great! One of my faves!
Thank you! So glad you're listening!
@@britt2001b You’re welcome. So glad you are doing this. As a life long Beatles fan, I was not always a fan of how the music was mixed. My opinion Rubber Soul is their best piece of work. In my dream land I was always hoping for a “modern” style mix. You’ve already done songs from that which I really enjoy. Thanks again!
@@smudgecapone9836 Thank you! Yes, I'm really looking forward to 'Rubber Soul' getting a proper mix. I think it has the potential of being the best sounding of all.
Great sound! Really adds new life to this recording!! 😮
Thank you! I'm glad you're listening!
One of my favorites you dont hear often enough....thanks!
Thank you for listening!
That my Beatles friend is amazing. Well done 👏
Thank you so much! I'm glad you're listening!
Dude speak to Giles Martin and ask if he wants a partner! You are absolutely fantastic! Grea, great job. Thank you for re-mixing possibly my favorite Beatles song of all time. Rock on man!
🌎🕊️❤️🇬🇧🎸🥁
Thank you! I doubt that he would want my input, I'm too old! Thanks for listening!
I love this. Since this is one of John's early lead solos it would have been a bonus to see him do it. I think there is a visual out there somewhere from some performance.
He's in the video.
You’re right, even though we all know John played the guitar solo in the middle break, as elliotgoldberg correctly stated, there is NO closeup or even a wide shot of JUST HIM during his entire 12 bar solo on any video. Sure he was THERE but the camera focuses on Paul and George for all 12 measures of it! DUH! (And this tune was composed with all 12 bar phrases, which is typical blues form, not in the so called song form of 8 and / or 16 bar phrases. This was a great tune performed to perfection and now realized with outstanding audio and video. Thanks
Although they are "miming" to the studio track, there is a close-up, along with a side-shot of John playing (miming) his guitar solo on Ready, Steady, Go!!!, here@ 12:56:

Yet another excellent video

GREAT VIDEO AND AUDIO !! 😉❤👍
Thank you!
Cool
Just a b-side too!!
MAN! I like your ear! I've been listening to several of your Beatles re-mixes and they are incredible. Clean, crisp, bright, bold, clear...I could go on. Some of the BEST I've heard and I've been listening to the Beatles since the beginning. GREAT!!!
Thank you, I'm so glad they're appreciated! I'm also a first generation fan. I'm just remixing these in a way that I've always wanted to hear them. Thanks for this comment and thanks for listening!
Wow. Almost like hearing this song for the first time. Very cool remix.
Great! Thank you!
Few film takes exist of John playing the guitar solo on YCDT (one of his rare early solos). He was insecure about his playing and didn't want his hands on camera while he played; on many clips, the camera crew and/or director didn't know or care which instrumentalists were playing which parts. A live clip from "Ready Steady Go" is one of the only clips that clearly show Lennon playing the solo.
Thank you for this. This explains why I couldn't find any footage of Lennon playing the lead. I didn't see the 'Ready Steady Go' clip. Thanks!
i've been waiting for some of this Lp
Fantastic job! One of my favorite Beatles songs. More, please
Thank you! Hopefully there will be a few more.
Wow, nice work. You are my favourite fan remixer, on YT. Congratulations. Fantastic video, too.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video also. Thanks for watching!
Much prefer your discrete separations rather than the “modernized”panned-in-the-center 2023 “Martinized” mixes. The Beatles original stereo versions were always fun for the instruments left/vocals right hard stereo. I have a feeling you’ll be placing the cowbell in a rear speaker when you mix the 5.1!
Thank you! That's a good idea! I wish the official remixers would do more in the vocal separations area.
Great clean sound!! BRAVO!
Thank you! So glad you're listening!
The videos are fantastic! 😎😎😎😎
Thank you!
Good drumming
Simplesmente maravilhoso seu trabalho. Sou fã dos Beatles.🎉

Thanks so much! The Beatles were a major part of the soundtrack of my teenage years. I'm extremely familiar with the Beatles songs from listening to them for hours through headphones. Your work brings new life to them. Great work!
Thank you and thanks for listening!
Great remix, and a really great video!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed both!
This is great! BUT one thing I want to say. John's guitar solo sequence should take from ”Ready Steady Go!" TV film.
That was only exist film of John's guitar solo on this song!
Thank you!
Love your video! Amazingly well done!
Thank you! So glad you're watching!
Your mix sounds better than what I've ever heard before. Keep up the good work!
That's great! Thank you so much! Glad you're listening!

My favorite Beatles song of all time I just love it beautiful video arrangements.
Wow ! I just discovered your channel. Thanks for this great labor of love. BTW, my first rock concert was seeing the Beatles at Candlestick Park 😊
Thanks, glad you're here! My first rock concert was about ten days before yours, if you saw them in 1966. I saw them in Memphis, Tennessee on August 19th.
Excellent, thank you for your help and quick response!
Really the best mixes!
Thank you for the kind comment! Glad you're listening!
Another excellent remix. Hey, Britt, could you work your magic on the Easybeats' "Friday on my Mind"? It's a high-energy number, and obviously it was a worldwide hit in 1966, but I've always felt that the original stereo mix absolutely smothers the vocals. There are some live performances out there which show what Stevie Wright was capable of.
Thank you! That one has always been on mind. I'll revisit it. Thanks!
Love it ❤
Thank you!
You are really good with this
Thank you so much and thanks for listening!
Great remix! Paul’s harmonies are super clear and distinct from the others (nicely so at the top end)!
