This is EXACTLY the type of thing I would want to be doing if I were to go to London. It would have to be a months long trip, as there's much too much glorious history to uncover. Too many responsibilities keeping me in relatively close vicinity to home when I do get to travel, but that's ok. More time to save towards an epic English immersion.
It's just a National Trust site, I can recommend any of them all over the UK. Membership is so worth it since it gives you unlimited entrance to all 1000+ different places they own. My closest NT site is Mount Stewart in Northern Ireland, big beautiful grounds and you can tour the house. Most are like this but this London one is particularly small in terms of gardens and walks because it's London lol I haven't actually heard of this specific one before, there are hundreds all over. If you're going to do a month's long trip you'd definitely not want to spend too much time in London, it's almost like an independent city state like Singapore and nothing like the rest of the country. If you visit, hope you have a fantastic time in the UK, you can fly from London to Belfast for about £30 each way and Northern Ireland is the most under-visited part of the UK by far but brilliant.
I’m biased but the hidden gems in London alone are wonderful. National Trust is great advice, it is worth seeing so many places around the country. Are trains are pretty good and the fast trains clean and reliable. I hope you make it over.
Been many times. I think some of the harpsichords were Handel’s. George Romney’s studio was just across from the gates and you have to visit The Hollybush Pub just a few steps away 😇😎
used to volunteer here, pre covid they had regular harpsichord concerts and someone came in every friday to play, not sure if they still do but was amazing hearing the music throughout the house
A little known fact is that young George Washington saw his father writing to Joshua Gee, and every letter started off rather informally with: "Well, Gee..." Little George started answering questions with a 'well, gee..' the same 'oh gee' or 'well gee, man' or even 'oh, geez, Louise' we hear from Americans all the time. 😂Maybe, just maybe, I'm right about this, but I doubt it.

The internet has a sense of humour today. First thing I see: a notice from Richmond Park saying that dogs must be kept on leads for the season. Second thing I see: Fenton house. ;)
I'm Sorry! All I could think of the moment he said "this is Fenton House" was of the RUclips clip of a dog called Fenton chasing after deer in Richmond Park. While the owner shouts "Fenton!" vainly trying to get the dog to heel! Everything after that comment about the name of the house was lost to time.
One of my ancestors lived near there in the 1700s. Her surname was Dalmeida. First name Rachel or Rebecca I think. I believe her family was Portuguese and had come to London following the Inquisition. I’m wondering if there is anything more you know about the area or can you point me to where I can find more information. ☺️☺️

I'm related to George Washington! 😊
I love beautiful old historical architecture. Thank you

Work on correcting the poor grammar in this. “him and his son”? No, you ass. “He and his son”
Worked on this building back around 1994
Did you enjoy it ??

A National Trust place near me uses Teasal heads to deter people from sitting on the furniture
Beautiful!
What a beautiful Place to visit...❤

“Him and his son” makes my ears hurt.
Me too. Very disappointing from a well spoken British person as it's the kind of gaffe that American kids would do.
What should it be, please?

Lovely house but knowing it was donated to the National Trust means I won’t be visiting it!

Cool!
Hmm. Gentrification in the colonial era.😊

Unfortunately it was closed when I walked past it while on my “Joolz Guides” walk in March.

I wonder if Mr. Gee ever moved to America before its independence from England.
That’s really an FU move when your relatives would rather leave their money to the town than you!
I worked on this building in 1708 and yes I'm old..
Londonistan has become extremely expensive due to the influx of Russian oligarch money.

fenTOOON !! FENTON!!! FEEENNNNN TOOOOON!!!
“HIM and his son.” NO!! “HE and his son.”
Teaching English to an Englishman. Tsk tsk.

This is most likely a filming location as well.
Yes, it has been:
Clarissa. 1991. TV Mini Series.
Mansfield Park. 1999.
Dancing on the Edge. 2013
Operation Mincemeat 2021.

HE and his son... NOT HIM and his son!
There’s a fresh water spring that turns into a major sewer as it gets through London
You mean the River Fleet I believe. Gives its name to Fleet Street but is all underground there.
He and his son James...NOT him!

Exactly my thoughts too. Fennnntooon. 😂
Why do you say "Him and his son"? Speaking as a proper English gentleman on the video, you must know that it's "He and his son".
What was the original cost of the house in the £Sd of the day?
Definitely not aristocrats: "Trade".
You sound like Caroline Bingley in Pride and Prejudice.
the gate is the Album cover for????
And that certain Washington's son, went on to kill a many Englishmen!
Close to the meat
Fentanyl House
Gee thats interesting
"Fenton.... Fenton!.... FENTON!.... FEEENNNTOOOONNN!!!!!! OH GOD"
"Him and his son..."
I expect so much better from Britain. Cringey.
Nope, I'm disabled.
LOL
Knowing people with that surname, you pronounce it 'jee'.
In 17th century England it was pronounced as in the video. It evolved from the French name "Guy", which is pronounced g-ee
Why does it have PVC windows ?
It doesn't!🤦
Why do you and Max Fosh sound alike? 😅
Maybe because they're from the same area?
Is it National Trust?
Yes.
Did you even listen to the video?🤦
Is this Georgian architecture?
No, just before it. It was finished in 1693 so is from the Stuart period which was
1603 to 1714.

Why? Because it'll ruin the infrastructure !
Not very central is it so St James,Kensington and Buckingham Palaces have more empty rooms to spare.
