I Meditated Every Day For 10 Years & This Is What Happened To Me

  • I have been meditating every day for over 10 years. Meditation has changed my life more than anything else. This commitment I made to myself over 10 years ago is the main reason I have done what I have in my life thus far. Grounding myself in that daily practice has strengthened my resolve in the work that I do. But there has been times when I've dragged myself out of bed kicking and screaming in trying to avoid my daily practice, but they are usually the most opportune moments to sit and dive deep. I have learned so much that it is hard to articulate. However, in this episode of Enlightenment Today, I will try to articulate my experience and share with you the changes that will happen to your mind and also the 18 ways that meditation will transform and improve not only your own life, but also the immediate world around you.

I’ve been meditating for about 8 months with a decent amount of regularity. After about three months I started noticing the meditative mind. Every moment became an opportunity for me to be present. Stuck in traffic, in a waiting room, etc. my patience for myself and others has increased tremendously and my anxiety has decreased to the same degree and at 30 years old I have the ability to relax like never before.

This was a good one Jason. Thank you. Meditation has helped me experience equanimity, empathy and respite from the pain that the tribalism you speak of causes. It helps you make friends with yourself. I have always appreciated solitude. With so much stimuli bombarding us today, hopefully more people will discover these truths. Thanks again. C

Also emphasizing that it should be taken more serious as eating which we just do automatically ..
Thank you🙏🙏 will keep trying to remind myself to just start small steps especially during hard times.. Small steps make the biggest changes because it's a life long endeavor .. no need add additional pressure to yourself by trying to think you always need to take long strides when the point is in the current moment.. your moving and by simply starting.. You have overcome half the battle

Thanks so much for this Jason! Truly such a remarkable video. I don't know when was the last time I sat and focused on someone listening for 40 minutes straight. I have many of these 18 qualities already but I am still so distracted by social media, video games, smartphones and I have a hard time focusing on reading. I don't meditate consistently and I really need to improve my consistency.
I feel like somewhere in my past life, I might have been following the rules of meditation and spiritual liberation but I did something wrong and got stuck in this Samsara. I'm a quiet person, I love listening to others, I feel a true sense of unity with everything in the universe and I love everything and everyone. But there is so much more room for improvement, even though I have come quite a long way from who I was in the 2010s decade.
    Shanti my friend 🙏🙏🙏

We are addicted to the over stimulation of social media, the activity, the noise that drowns out our inner intelligence. Even original ideas, if you keep rejecting them, result in even more original ideas. They come from a deeper place with more enduring connections to the real world. But even those ideas are connected with objects and the deepest meditations go beyond objects and concepts. They are like the soil that provides support for the plant ( object) to emerge. The space in which there can be stars and planets. For successful meditation, we should have a deep desire to be with that soil, that space. Where nothing is manifest. It's the least stimulation.

Jason new subscriber here...Your channel has helped me immensely ...I was always a seeker thru out my life...However I search no more..after much spiritual study and some practice I finally landed on TAO...Taoism works very good for me ! I still consider myself a Novice Taoist.. My path by all who are privy to it is very unique.... by all accounts ...15 yrs ago I was handed a death sentence (Kidney failure) after 8 grueling years on dialysis My life was saved by a complete stranger that found me online and after all was said and done she proclaimed that she owed me from a previous incarnation where I saved her life ! well I don't doubt her as I've literally saved 3 lives this time around lol..anyway Thank you for your video's they inspire me.. as a person who hears on a daily basis that I inspire them..I too need inspiration especially that I'm a Songwriter/musician/vocalist..
Something I'd like to share with you is that about 4 yrs ago I discovered 432hz tuning...In opposed to the standard adopted around WW2 of 440hz...now 440hz isn't to be found occurring anywhere in Nature..that's a red flag in of itself ! where as 432hz is found all over the place....from the speed of light to the main chamber of the great Giza pyramid ....I'm working towards changing the worlds music back to this spiritual frequency ...I'd love to hear your thoughts on this...is it possible that if all of mankind tuned into this frequency we would transcend towards our higher selves ? worth contemplating...Sincerely KBL
PS I encourage anyone else reading who is interested in this subject to contact me...Thanks again KBL

Hi, Jason. Thank you for the inspiring videos. I've first watched your documentary on Effortless Living with my father and we loved it. Yesterday we've watched the second documentary. It really shed a light understanding what is happening with the world and within ourselves. I really have to thank you, something already has changed in me. We're very fond of the ancient Chinese culture. Years ago I've heard about meditation when I saw some Osho videos and read a few of his books. Though I never really got into the practice of it, It's been life changing for me. Last year I've started trying a few meditation apps, but never really engaged into it, and never really felt any difference. Though I got some understanding of being more blissful, and I am much more today than I use to be years ago, I usually get caught up in a helter skelter of feelings, specially around negative people. After watching a few of your videos, specially this one, I've made a commitment to myself to start meditating properly and consistently. It's incredible to feel that even one session makes me feel a little lighter. I apologize for the long text, but somehow I had to thank you, and didn't few like just saying thank you was enough. 😊 Please keep up the great work. Greetings from Brazil! 👍 Shanti shanti

I'm also so glad you are exploring my other videos and I'm so stoked that my meditation videos are inspiring you to take the practice seriously. That really means a lot to me brother. Since you showed a lot of love I will let you know that a third film completing the trilogy is a few months away, I haven't mention it yet but your comment touched me and I hope you can experience with your father whenever it drops. But before then, plenty of more content and another documentary on the way. Shanti shanti shanti brother. Much love to all in Brazil!

I was never systematic about meditation until very recently. It was hit or miss before. When I was a kid, I had this shortwave radio. Late at night, I used to turn the dial; and when I got something, I would try to fine tune to get the station. Some nights it worked out well, and some nights not at all. Factors like weather and interference held sway. Meditation was sort of like that, picking up signals from inside me, outside me, etc. If I got something, I would try to tune into the same frequency the next time. I was looking for something.
It seems you are going back to be more like people in the 1970's, Jason. Life was a lot slower then. We had time to think. I remember long walks on the beach, making sand castles, playing outside, finding strange insects and creatures outdoors, reading good books, and doing art. Phones were in the house and had dials. If you wanted to make a call, you went in a phone booth. There was no such thing as internet or a personal computer. Few people payed for cable TV. Most had antennas on their roof or rabbit ears. We got only three or four stations. Media was not a big part of life. We had picnics and board games. I'd spend hours wandering in the woods looking at stuff. I spent time in my tree house and had a squirrel jump on my head. I always wanted to be the person I was then. You just gave a way to make it possible. Thanks. You are a younger person who never saw the 1970's. Bless you if you can go back there even if you never had been.

I’ve begun again after a thirty year break and so far 7 months in I noticed an awareness of my own stuff that I couldn’t put a name to but knew was there some good some bad I’m thankful it’s helping me be the best version of me I can be. Depends on how I feel as to my length of sitting middle age joints hurt more than they did when I was younger
I have a question I have noticed during meditation if I’m in a good space I tend to for lack of a better term lose sense of time my body everything it’s like I am connected with everything but I’m not connected with everything is this what’s called samadhi? I mean so many people swear by TM and its beneficial affects and they only need to do 20 mins, twice a day. Any thoughts on this?

    • @JasonGregoryAuthor
      @JasonGregoryAuthor  3 года назад +3

Great to hear from you my friend. I'm so glad you are benefiting from mindfulness. As for TM, there is nothing wrong with it per se, but problems occur when the focus is other than meditation itself (being successful etc). Not that people shouldn't be successful, but meditation in its essence is about enlightenment and so it loses something when it is used for other reasons. We need to remember the original intent behind meditation, which is the reason we should practice it in the first place. If success and a fat bank account are the by product of that, then so be it.

Very nicely put together ☺️🙏. I would like to ask though, why is it important to keep on meditating ever day, for life? I have experience everything you described after the first 1 year and then for personal reasons I decided to stop. So it’s been a year now that I am not meditating (seriously like you described it). So far I haven’t noticed any changes. I still experience all 18 points. Do you think that meditating is still important. What do you think would happen if you for example stopped meditating now? I don’t know. Chit chat is kind of interesting. I have become more interested for sure when people are having words with each other and their energy changes like they put more enthusiasm into the words out of anger or whatever. Not so much for me on two and three. But enjoying the list okay keep going

I do agree that 20 min isn’t enough- at least for me. I have add- my mind won’t quiet until after 10-15 min. When I first started - 15 min was enough but after a while, if you really wanna dig, you have to do it longer. But then it just becomes easier. I suggest if you are starting to meditate - keep a journal and write about your feelings. Writing about it helps the mind relax more

Meditation is a state of consciousness...not a practice...

    • @sushmasagar316

Practice it is. We PRACTICE the mode of meditation, and hope to better understand The True Self. And then we must PRACTICE what we understand. Meditating is a practice.

Is meditation even necessary? Did Ramana Maharshi meditate meditate? Isn't just the realization of the fact that we are beyond the mind enough?

  • @suzannecarter445

You've obviously thought long and hard about this, Jason. The irony of your discussion of long term meditation consists of the fact that most people feel they do not have time to meditate for 45 minutes a day yet, you continually mention how much time you save by not wasting it via the wandering mind after years of meditation

Hi Dianne. There is nothing wrong with intellectuality. Western people incorrectly demonized the intellect, which actually frustrates teacher in the East. Actually, long-term meditation enhances intellectual capabilities, that is proven and discussed within the traditions. Also, I would avoid creating an opinion of someone from a brief video, as if you know the person. That would be highly immature and I'm guessing if you are on my channel than you are not immature (I don't know how old you are, but that can be a problem with young people when they are introduced to spirituality). I would leave those sorts of superficial judgments for the rest of the world. One last thing, Western people who come across Eastern spirituality are still influenced by their competitive mind. I'm saying this because reading some of your comments you seem like you are in competition with me, as to prove your worth over me. I saw one of your comments saying you are enlightened, which is a sign of not being enlightened at all because the persona that verifies that has disappeared and so it cannot make that statement. When one is enlightened there is no one inside to claim the state. Making those claims is not accepted in the East because humility is important. The competitive mind is something that will subside when you meditate more and understand Eastern philosophy deeply. That is what my channel is for and the work that I have been doing as a teacher and author for 15 years. I hope you can appreciate the work going forward. Remember, being human and ordinary is what is truly extraordinary in the East.
