I was just telling someone the other day about Lipton’s in Bloomfield Center. It was later Annie Sez but when I was a kid, I remember it was our own hometown department store and it was pretty damn cool.
I totally disagree. It has become a vibrant, diverse, modern American city, which is not what it was when I grew up here in the 1980’s. I am so happy to see what Bloomfield has become!
I grew up in Bloomfield lot of changes in town! Not saying that the changes are bad they are just different. Used to be two movie theaters The Center and the Royal I can't remember the name of the other arcade but someone mentioned the electric circuit used to be the Big Apple toy store, the Magic Fountain ice cream parlor, Boardwalk Benny's, Blimpie's, The Sandwich Factory, the Suburban coffee shop, the shortstop Diner, Big Vox electronics, the Electric Barn Crazy Mike's, Roy Rogers, the bowling alley that used to be on the corner on Broad Street and Bay Avenue, Sal's Record Shop, Woolworths, Ippolito's 5 and dime, The Hobby Shop on Broad Street, Economy Sneakers, the Feed Bag, Mecha Magic. Those are places that are gone that I frequented as a kid.
Wow, i remember living in bloomfield as a child in the 90s before moving to Illinois. Bloomfield used to have that arcade called Electric Circuit. Anyone remember that?
Wow Ryan it’s crazy to see how nature grew or the lack there of over time. Not to mention how the buildings look from then vs now! Those old cars remind me of my grandpa and dad’s cars. Gotta love the boats as I call the bigger cars (especially Pontiac Parisienne) 😂.
I disagree. I love the progress the town has made over the last 30-40 years. Growing up here, it wasn’t the type of place I ever would have wanted to settle when I grew older, but I love how it has modernized, grown and yet still maintains beautiful small-town-feel like in the area of the town green. Love it!
Wow this was FANTASTIC!! Great job :) I bet you could actually make a career doing this for towns or people with old photos like me to create videos for them. I for one was sitting here watching this thinking of the thousands of pics my family has and how great it would be to have something like this
I grew up in Bloomfield so this was interesting
Nice retro and present day pics. I'll be going to Bloomfield tomorrow

I was born in Newark and grew up in Bloomfield. I left for good in 1991 and moved to California.

I worked at Columbus Hospital 1976-1979 right off Bloomfield Ave. It was a Crazy Fun time(s) in that area.

I actually think this town hasn’t changed that much. Some areas actually look better now. Thanks for sharing.
I agree…many of the areas in Central Bloomfield have been rebuilt over the past 10-15 years.
