How To Create Board & Batten / Hit & Miss / Slatted Fencing

- This is a quick, general guide on how to create your own fencing which is known by a few names; hit & miss fencing, board & batten fencing, or slatted fencing! It's a very modern look that can be left natural or painted.
We've created an 8 step guide to follow ;
Step 1
Mark out your fencing line to make sure it’s straight
Step 2
Fix the timber posts into the ground, approx. 6ft apart for stability with the self tap in screws
Step 3
Measure and cut the plastic sheeting, then attach to the timber posts using the pin gun
Step 4
Start at the bottom, check the 1st length is level. Secure into place using the pin gun
Step 5
Add in spacers along the length. Aim for 5mm gap between each length for consistency.
Step 6
Stagger the lengths so the joints don’t line up together
Step 7
Repeat steps 5 & 6 until your desired height & length is reached

Thank you! They're planed treated timber battens, you can also use cedar/hardwoods but these are a more budget-friendly option 😄 (www.forwardbs.co.uk/planed-treated-timber)
I don't understand the point of the plastic, won't it just rip in time? Also how do you finish the tops?
It's a woven membrane that we've used to keep the foliage out - because the battens are spaced apart, it just hides any imperfections and increases privacy too! We turned the lengths of the battens on their side and nailed them in place; you can also use panel capping too
