Excellent explanation and demonstrated. I would advice any first timers laying a patio to ensure that the mix is semi dry and not to mix a really wet mortar mix. A semi dry will support the slab without it sinking if too wet. I would also recommend a slurry mix on the underside of the slab. Lastly with riven slabs, ensure that the riven pattern allows the water to fall away and not trap any water in a puddle which may attract algae, however this may not always be possible due to the random nature of the riven pattern / cut on the slab. Laying a simple patio is well in reach of competence of most able bodied people irrespective of experience and will save one money by doing it yourself.
@@mpersI'm an absolute beginner and I was looking to lay my own sandstone, can I ask what is geo grid? And is this video missing out any important information? Ty for any advice
You didn’t use a slurry or pva for a start and that’s way too much left over easy joint on the surface it will absorb and stain the Indian sand stone if left like that, make sure you meticulously get rid of all. I have a customer who didn’t really with the easy joint and simply brushed it all over his stairs like you’ve left yours and it stained £150 worth of stones
Hi do you know how to get rid of the staining? We have had a new patio and the landscapers did the pointing they told me it would fade away when it rains. However its not and its staining from the pointing. Absolutely devastated as its a large area. Any tips would be great
Can you give me any tips Liam to attempt to lay sandstone, what do you mean he didn't use a slurry or pva? I'm an absolute beginner so any easy steps in the correct way I'd appreciate it.ps I'm laying sandstone
@@Garyskinner2422 Hi mate, if its indian sandstone you should really be using SBR, PVA is as pointless as using nothing. Slurry is the name given to a watery cement mix some people like to brush on the back. SBR is basically like superglue for stone it will keep it stuck down pretty well no matter how much weight, walking, driving, etc it shouldnt move. with PVA or nothing after a couple of a lot of people walking on it cab start to move. Hoep this helps
Only trouble with those coloured stones is that they look terrible after a few months. Even when cleaned, they lose their colour and go beige in colour.
I haven't found this at all, where are you buying your sandstone from? I have had some down for 5 years, once I clean the moss off it looks just like when I bought it

25mm to 45mm thick laying bed. That's about 150mm 🤦♂️
Thinking same thing, sheesh.
👏👏👏.👌 💯 👍thanks for your, ,same jobs, me England, ,
Did you just hit the spirit level with that hammer ? 😅
No slurry on back ov paving ????
The bed should be level and full contact otherwise you’ll get reflective staining
Flat not level needs a fall on it.

I am an experienced builder. Can I work with you?
Yes please, 50 pounds per week, must speak Polish 🙏
Where's the primer slurry? 🤔
Nice job 👍
Is it ok to do it on top of crushed stone like that? I typically pour a concrete slab first which drives the cost way up
I think it is ok if you compact every 2 inches and use geo grid every 3 inches. Lots of installations have been done over the crushed base.
