On the first night (the one in the video) the audience was approximately 480 thousand people.
On the second night, another 250,000 people attended the shows.
Among all artists and bands, Queen's performance was the one that most marked and was immortalized in the hearts of Brazilians.

This was so amazing. Freddie was almost in tears with the crowd's singing..it brought a huge lump to his throat. I miss Freddie with all my heart and soul. What a voice. Still so famous and loved 28 years on..
Brian has discussed how emotional he and Freddie were at the fan reaction. Chanting for Brian was amazing too.
Since you haven’t heard any other live version I recommend the performance at Montreal 81. The audience doesn’t really participate & it’s a treat to hear Freddie sing the whole song, flawlessly. And Brian is excellent f too.

That's the one where you can hear Freddie say to Brian, "They don't know it." Then Brian answers back, "It's alright." And they continued on with the song and the crowd did begin to sing louder.

Eu não fui no Rock N Rio em 85, mas vi o Queen no Morumbi em março de 1981 e foi a mesma coisa, o Bryan ainda arriscou um portugues e disse "Essa musica es para voces de São Paulo" e iniciou os acordes de Love of My Life e o Morumbi veio abaixo e cantamos junto com o Freddie regendo a Plateia foi tão maravilhoso quanto o Rock In Rio, até choro de saudades quando vejo esses lixos de hoje

I was lucky to have seen Queen live twice. One was at Live Aid where EVERYONE sang along with them, so never be embarrassed and please feel free to sing.

Actually, this event happens every year (minus this one) on Copacabana Beach, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It's a totally oppened space, with the sea right there, something that makes the huge sound of the audience in this show even more incredibble (it shoudn't sound this big, but we could do it for them). Brazilian fans are famous for their performances, even when most of us coudn't speak a single word of english to save our lives, it never was a problem for us.
Every time Brian May came after that, he makes sure to play this song, and we sing along the same way. Look at the "Brian May in Rock in Rio" for you to have na idea.
Rock in Rio never happened in Copacabana!! It always happens in Barra da Tijuca/ Jacarépagua.

Phenomenal! Good to know your well and safe. I totally agree! I often think that Queen was and still are a band of wizards! Their music has an eternally medicinal and magical effect on the audience and the soul! For years and these days, Brian sings this song solo in honor of Freddie and encourages the crowd to join in. He'd say "don't be shy" and also encourage everyone to get out their iphone lights reminiscent of back in the day when people held lighters. Near the end, a video of Freddie from the Wembley 1986 concert appears on a screen and sings the last part. Almost after every time, Brian would be seen wiping away a tear in honor of his friend and brother in arms and also he's probably so touched that people still go nuts for Queen. Looking forward to more Queen.

One of my favourite Queen songs. I saw Queen in Feb this year and this was easily the highlight of the concert. Brian played and sang the song and at the end shook hands on screen with a virtual Freddie. Talk about a tear jerker! Wonderful moment.

If you want to hear other live versions of Love Of My Life i really recommend Wembley 1986 or Montreal 1981 (in this one the audience didn’t sing as much but Freddie’s voice was so beautiful) or just check out more Montreal in general haha, such a great concert!

Lovely reaction again Doe! I remember hearing you say one of your previous Freddie reaction posts that you didn’t want to react to Barcelona...please reconsider! There are a few different ones on RUclips but I’d suggest the Live at La Nit 1988 - it is spectacular and the affection between Freddie and Montserrat is plain to see, plus they both look fabulous! I think you would absolutely love it!

The first Rock in Rio lasted 10 days. Every band played twice. Queen, B52's, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne and many, many others.
I was there for 6 out of these 10 magical days, and this song is Brazil's love letter to Freddie and Queen.
