Ross McCall is a British actor best known for his roles as T-5 Joseph Liebgott in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers and Matthew Keller in the hit series White Collar, as well as the role of 'kid' Freddie Mercury in the music video for the Queen single "The Miracle".
...and he was engaged to, "Jennifer Love Hewitt", for a quick minute. Me and my family accidentally scared her out of a restaurant twenty three years ago when she was dating/with, Carson Daly. I couldn't stop smiling at her and then on top of that I waved at her. That did it and she was gone dragging, Carson, out looking back at us wonder what in the hell I/we did to upset her so much. There was no one in there but them, me, and my family when I was 22 years old.
Not sure if you noticed when Freddie hugs mini-Freddie near the end of the video. I think that was entirely spontaneous, and such a precious moment to capture on film! Really heartwarming. Great reaction, Doe! (from Lise Hull)
So many Queen songs have an important message for all of us. From Liar, and Son and Daughter on Queen I, Father to Son and The Loser in the End on Queen II, White Man on A Day at the Races, It's Late on News of the world, and so on and on and on (way too many to itemise here), for every album up to this fabulous track, then The Show Must Go On, and the absolutely epic Innuendo. Listen to the lyrics of pretty much every and any Queen song, and there will be something in there to reflect on. And their music and musicianship speaks for itself - how blessed are we to have lived in their time and experienced their genius!
Packs a wallop of a message in a sweet package. Constraints around Freddie's health provided new venues for creativity. Agree that the John-Freddie combo is something special.
The kids were chosen so well, and given perfect choreographical instructions. It never looks like synchronized dancing either, it just looks like you have to size-versions of each person on stage in the end part. Plus the song's quite beautiful as well. Should've just watched it a second time - or rather just listened to it. The song went a bit under, which is perfectly understandable for a first viewing, of course. :)
The Miracle is the absolute best Queen video ever. Watching it you just have to smile. Brian once said it is one of his favourite Queen songs because the lyrics and melody are so beautiful yet Freddie who wrote it was in pain and knowing the end was coming. There‘s a making of the miracle btw. Loved your reaction. ❤️
OMG!! ☺️ Such a great & adorable video!! Brian commented that he thought this was one of Freddie’s finest compositions! “But Mona Lisa just keeps on smiling … it’s a miracle”. 😁💝💐🌿💐
Watched this 1987 in the GDR on West German Tv.....which we weren’t supposed to watch......and I fell in Love , being a Kid myself, with the “Cute Girl” in the Video.......when my Best Friend told me later when I talked to him about the Video “ Florian, that is a Boy”....a little bit Confusion for that 8 year Old East German!😄 The BlackWhite Bodysuit outfit....with the Long Hair.....was a Girl for me when I watched it first. Became a Huge Queen Fan back then......I love the first Guitar Solo from Brian May here. 3:38
I think this music-video is beautiful, but the lyric to this amazing song are even better ❤ At the end of the video, when both the kids and the band share the stage with joy. Always makes me cry in tears ❤
Adorably priceless! Those kids playing the band members were so lucky! I loved it when the real band members came out standing beside the kids like proud daddies! I love the little mini-tour of the different styles and looks Freddie took on over Queen's history. The long hair and the harlequin catsuit in the early to mid 70's up till '77, the leather biker look in the late '70s, the iconic 1985 Live aid look, and the yellow military jacket he wore after. Brian and Roger did a series of music audio commentaries some years ago and their talk about the Miracle was too cool and hilarious. Brian has often said that of all the songs Freddie wrote, "The Miracle" is his favorite, such a beautiful, positive message when Freddie's life is taking a tragic turn. ruclips.net/video/8GV829zwpBk/видео.html
Thank-you for discussing what the words to this song meant.. the video is amazing, and the kids were great. But.. Freddie was making a point, as he very often was!!
The kids auditioned via the Queen Fan Club back in the day as it were, & apparently Freddie asked if they could go on tour instead of themselves which is very poignant considering the video was shot in November 1989
Over 6000 kids auditioned for this. All of them had to be able to sing and play the instruments. The young Freddie Mercury was Scottish actor Ross McCall.
This has always been one of my favorite Queen music videos. I remember reading somewhere that the band said that the kids were so good that maybe they should have them do the tours in their place!
The music video for the song features four young boys performing as Queen on stage: Paul Howard as Brian May, James Currie as John Deacon, Adam Gladdish as Roger Taylor, and a then-unknown Ross McCall as Freddie Mercury. Throughout the video, McCall appears as four different incarnations of Mercury: 1977 Freddie (long hair with a one-piece black and white Harlequin spandex leotard), 1978-1979 Freddie (leather pants and leather jacket, and although he is portrayed with a moustache in the video, Freddie never wore his full black leather outfit with his moustache), Live Aid 1985 Freddie (white tank top, Adidas shoes, jeans), and 1986 Freddie (Iconic yellow jacket with track pants). Queen themselves appear only near the end of the video. It was filmed in London, at Elstree Studios in November 1989. According to Roger Taylor, Mercury joked about sending the boys out on tour instead of them because of how well they did in the video. According to a story in a 2011 issue of rock magazine, NME Paul Howard, who played the part of Brian May, is currently facilities manager at LegoLand in Windsor, UK.
Hey Doe!! Freddie’s lyrics include mentioning Test Tube babies …. So I did some research and the scientist who created test tube fertilization (so to speak) is British! The first test tube baby was born in 1978! Ross MCall (Freddie) is a Scottish actor who played in the pop series Band Of Brothers! He also dated Jennifer Love-Hewitt (Ghost Whisperer)… fun fact!
Great choice Doe!!! Another very happy Queen song!! It makes me cry too :) I think you'd love the Days Of Our Lives documentary. Speaking of... the song "Those are the days of lives" is another tear jerker from Innuendo.... As for my favorite video... It's a Hard Life is wonderful for it's visuals and costumes. Great song too.
Love your in-depth reactions…. You might want to check out early Queen that showcases the whole band called Liar at the Rainbow. ( my all time favorite is White Queen at Odeon Hammersmith).
Beautiful reaction to one of Queen’s most beautiful songs and videos Freddie said that they should send the kids on tour and they could stay at home always makes me cry take care x x
Those kids are so talented ❤my fav is little Freddie, he was SO on point with Freddie’s moves, they all were so amazing!!! And yes little Freddie is the same boy in all the outfits 🎉🎉
Wonderful tearful reaction Doe to a brilliant song and video. If you want more tears check out ´Too much Love will Kill you´ from ´Made in Heaven`. The heart-breaking lyrics coupled with Freddie´s sublime vocal will have you in floods.
Loved your reaction. Almost made me cry. I love this song too! Watch the video of the kids rehearsing for their parts in the video. So cool. The kid that played is a handsome young man now and has done well with is career.
You know.... i've seen this video thousands of times but it never quite hit me till now that this was the first and last video Freddie wore that iconic Wembley yellow jacket after the 86 tour ended, and also the last time he wore it on camera.
Just found your channel thanks to the algorithm. Really enjoyed your reaction. I'm new to your channel AND I have never seen that Queen video before either. That was awesome. Very talented kids for sure. I wonder if they were actually playing the instruments too.
The bass section of deaky, the drum section of Roger, the guitar solo of Brian, the voice of freddie, the entire song is perfect, according to Brian freddie said that's the best song that he write
Yes, the same children, who auditiined... bit like Harry Potter auditions. They were chosen so well. Think "young Freddie" was a young boy from Glasgow. Long time since I've seen this, and I found it so emotional. Freddie was in pain, so a great way to put across Queen, whilst Freddie was ill. Yes, I'd love to know where "Young Queen" boys are now. There were articles in the newspapers at the time. Loved your Reaction. 👍
To me it's the perfect answer to all those Michael Jackson and "stars for whatever" "let's all care for the world" type songs, because it succeeds, where basically all other attempts have too high an amount of cringe. This has no cringe, it's simply perfection for that message.
Why are those songs cringe? They carry a important message I see nothing cringe in trying to inspire people to make the world a better place. Strange comment.
if you haven't had them suggested already, check out Dreamers Ball(off the Jazz album), All Dead All Dead (News of The World) and One Vision (the album version - A kind of Magic)
DOE, You made me Weepy In A Good Way💕 Brian has said that this is his favorite of all the songs that Freddie wrote... because at the time that Fred wrote it, he was aware of his terminal diagnosis... and yet, the lyrics are so POSITIVE and HOPEFUL.💕 ALL of the different Little Freddies were played by the SAME young actor. What a reaction. I just thought. This video is like a little intro into Bohemian Rhapsody movie. when Queen members were also mentoring some younger versios of themselves :)
Those kids were brilliant. There has been a lot of nastiness through the years, particularly directed at "Freddie." Jealousy, as usual, because they met and worked with Queen.
I look forward to your outfit for Freddie day on the 5th September 2022. I hope you do another video for. Yet again thanks Doe I love seeing your reactions xx

Please have a look at The Invisible Man. John doesn’t get a lot of praise and it’s got a great bass running through it. Also the video is crazy! Brain on a skateboard shooting lasers from his guitar 😃😃😃
"That time will come, one day you'll see, when we can all be friends." Such a simple, but beautiful line. I always loved that ending.
Its from "Friends will be friends" that ending part.
My fav line as well, with that guitar giving you the last hope of happiness…
meanwhile 3 letter agencies "no, we need to stir up more wars!"

Yes exactly! They were amazing! Yeah I gave it another listen to really appreciate the music as I realised the video had distracted me somewhat
34 years later - I still cry too 🥲
Freddie was a beautiful person ❤️
