- WHERE THE HEART IS (1990) was directed by John Boorman with a musical score by Peter Martin.
One of the charactors in the movie is a photographer/artist and she (Suzie Amis) has been commissioned to created a trompe l'oeil calendar based on old master artist's paintings. Each month represents a different artist and one of his works of art.
I do not know all of the artists represented or the work of art but below is what I know.
Trompe l'oeil paintings and body make-up created by artist Timna Woollard.
January - Gustave Moreau - Helen on the Walls of Troy
February - Giorgione---Sleeping Venus
March - Vincent van Gogh---Starry Night
April - unknown artist; subject is Noah and the Flood
May - Alfred Sisley - unidentified trees painting
June - Edouard Manet---Le Déjeuner sur l'herbe/The Luncheon on the Grass
July - Henri Rousseau---?
August - Pablo Picasso---?
September - unknown artist; subject is Eve in the Garden of Eden
October - ?
November - Hieronymus Bosch---Garden of Earthly Delights (right panel "Damnation")
December - Rene Magritte - Domain of Arnheim
If anyone knows the missing artists and paintings please post a comment and let me know.
I must acknowledge "kisrael" who took the time and effort to rescure these paintings from the end credits of the movie and removed the end credits text so they could be seen in all of their glory. Thank you kisrael.
YAY!!! Have been trying to find this music FOREVER!! Thank you so much for posting :))))
One of my all time favorite films!!!
One of the most beautiful movie themes of the last 50 years, thanks so much for posting, long live John Boorman and the cast too!
Love it. This movie is so full of life
Thank You so much for posting this exquisite music with the wonderful paintings from the movie. One of my favourites of all time!!!
Glorious paintings. Love seeing these with the music, thanks!
I wonder if they could remake this film now (2023) with Uma's daughter Maya????
July- Henri Rosseau - The snake charmer
It's easy to dismiss this movie as being late 80s fluff. Certainly the dialogue is less than stellar. The opening credits are most foreboding. Imagine someone painting the towers red now? The beauty of this movie is the beauties in this movie. Yes, it's a cheap production, the story perfunctory, but there is something visually about this movie that keeps bringing me back to it.
thanks for downloading , Really like this finale. Wath it everyday.
Love it!

Beautiful
January looks like Gustave Moreau, though I don't know the specific painting referenced - maybe Sappho or Helen.
May looks like trees by Sisley.
December is definitely the Domain of Arnheim by Magritte.
+Dora Vale Thank you for helping with the artwork. I am sorry I did not reply when you posted. I must be losing my mind but I though I did reply last year. Sorry again!
