    Do you go fancy or lower price rods and reels?

    • @shawnbowen6833
      @shawnbowen6833 3 дня назад +2

      Middle of the road usually offers best value. Expensive name brand can put out lower quality stuff and get away with it because of their "name". Cheap cheap brands usually just use low quality stuff and aren't that great or just heavy. Middle of the road companies usually put out good products to show you their product is just as good as high quality name brand but they cant just rely on their name so their stuff is usually good. I find this to be true with almost any product. Not just fishing stuff.

      A perfect example of what I'm talking about... okuma guide select pro rods and the x series rods are great higher quality rods from a middle of the road company. They make cheaper stuff but those rods are their higher quality rods that are great and still at a lower price than big name stuff like Loomis... but... my Loomis e6x 8-12lb steelhead rod is one of the worst rods I own! It's a BROOMSTICK of a rod. I only use it as a bobber rod now because it has ZERO sensitivity in it. And it still cost more than my okuma guide select pro rods which I find to be far superior to that particular rod. Of course Loomis high end stuff is probably better but they get away with putting out a crap rod at a still fairly steep price based on name alone.

    I've always fished with what I can afford. I've never had that super expensive rods, but in the medium price range. I agree about what you said about the rod. They're definitely a lot easier on your arm and body on having a lighter fishing rod.

    Great episode Brian. You are right. Some people can only afford what they can. When i first started i had an old heavy right and Mcgill fiberglass rod and a quick 330 spinning reel. Rods today maybe less expensive but they are lighter in weight and better quality. Keep the video's coming.

    • @AutomagicFishing

      That’s 100% valid. I know how much better the lower end rods are compared to 3 decades ago..
      I didn’t even go into any real depth about how the quality makes the difference. Sensitive vs not.
      I can feel fish bite on my eggs under a float even when the float doesn’t dunk. Love the quality sensitive rods now days

    Sorry to see you didn't get one, but a great time anyway. I use what I have, try to learn, & get more appropriate especially rigging. Have a proper size net now on order... not that trout/kokanee net you mentioned in another video. Not to bash trout or kokanee fishing.... Rigged up a pole for some plunking, yes plunking...didn't get a chance to do it yet... with a pole I found in the road years ago. Hope to try it someday. But revised it 3 times so far due to what I see online and in videos. Revised to what I think might work... rather than just to copy what someone else is doing. Was much simpler once I figured out the Anti Snagging Rule and Bobber Rule were only applicable in those location exceptions where they are referred to in the regulations... Regs could be a bit clearer on that... took me several days to actually find online a clear explanation. Word searched all the regs to find the exceptions, then became clear. Missed the last two nice weather days a couple weeks ago, but look forward to going at it again someday... with my son. Oh! Oh! broke my wife's pole when I was working on the boat... sat down on it... ouch. Great lady though... she still fed me after I told her!!! We're going to have to go pole shopping.... Would be great to see you out there again some day.

    Don't need expensive gear but you need quality gear. Fly rods there base rods with lifetime warranty is what you need. Works like that on float rods etc. You don't need the high-end but need the base end. In essence your getting what used to be the high-end rod 10 years ago
