Mr Morehead you are a true gentleman. I've been following your channel and advice especially on the Outcast with the shocks. I'm in the UK and staying up late to watch your work. Well done done sir keep it up. Mark ✌️
Been watching your channel for a bit. I recently upgraded my Xmaxx to widemaxx a few aluminum parts 2085R servo running belted XRT tires and currently on 20/46 gearing. Have the 44 spur too which I ran once. I stick pretty much to pavement not a basher hate to break parts and was thinking the 44 is a little too much. Wasn’t getting crazy hot temps. Last run though I moved my low voltage cutoff on max6 to low from intermediate and it puffed my batteries.
That is a great deal, I have 3 one factory stock, one factory ultimate and one I made an ultimate, building an ultimate costs more than buying from Traxxas....if someone is looking for one yours is it, you definitely take care of everything wish I needed one 🤔
Man Earl! You gotta wait to release these deals until payday! My money doesn’t come in until Thursday night at midnight. Unfortunately I know it’s already sold or I’d probably be in your email already. What a good dude you are buddy. Awesome
So it's not just a tire change and it's been our for awhile. I bought mine about 4-5 months ago. It came out the same time as the ultimate. Here are all the changes I discovered: 1. Uses the XRT overdrive transmission that has a lower gear ratio and is the reason why it comes with a 15 tooth pinion. The info on the overdrive transmission suggests it adds 5 teeth to the pinion basically. 2. The motor shaft has a C clip to keep the pinion on. Not sure if that was on the previous version. 3. 15T pinion and 54T spur installed. The included speed gears are 17T pinion and 46T spur. The kicker hear is that there is no combination to use the 46T spur with the pin system. I called traxxas and they said to not use the pins and set gear mesh manually. They also said they were updating their documentation because it was near impossible to find any. 4. New bodies. The "green" was the only option for me and looked better than I thought. Dead ringer for a Seahawks Xmaxx. 5. Belted tires, which are actually really good after you figure out gearing. Now I've done a lot to my Xmaxx and I can say that gearing is completely different from previous versions. I've for that the sweet spot is 18T spur and 50T pinion on mod 1 with stock motor. A Max6 will not work well with the stock motor and any spur outside of the 54T and even still has problems. It will introduce cogging and I'm not sure why. The Max6 will not deliver a sustained amp load when at a complete stop. It then bounces from 0amp to a few amps and cogs. The stock esc is kind of dumb but it bypasses the process through pure brought force. It will give you all the amps whether you want it or not. Probably why they blow up haha. Max6 works perfect when paired with a sensored HW motor though. Other than that, it suffers from all of the regular problems that all Xmaxx do like hinge pins, weak servo, paper thin body, etc.
@@earlmoorhead5555 love your videos and I'm a big fan, but those are the changes. Overdrive transmission (same as ultimate I believe), c-clip on motor shaft, belted tires, and new body colors. Unless there is a 3rd version released this year that I haven't heard about it. Also, I was watching a Kevin video earlier from yesterday of him rebuilding his v5 and he mentioned the same problems with the Max6 G2 and stock motor.
@@earlmoorhead5555 Pretty much yeah. But I also think that the Xmaxx is the worst value per dollar in its size class. You have the Vigilante, Outcast 8s, and Kraton 8s all with better out of the box electronics (actually able to program), servos, spiral cut gears, etc for cheaper. The Xmaxx should be priced at $800 for what it is an what needs to be upgraded out of the box.
@Ar3sRC vigilante can’t get parts to repair it and it’s already showing how weak some of the suspension is no way it handles any jumps as well as the xmaxx wish it did as I’d buy it for sure it looks cool 😎 but it has redcat normal issue hopefully it doesn’t get discontinued soon as well as there products list is slim on it
I forgot to say I agree with you about the X-Maxx it's only a set of tires. The pinion gear is terrible will strip very quickly. Good stuff. V 6 coming soon..Mark
I recently bought a used X-Maxx …(older 6s version) clean rig but had a bad ESC…(typical) original tires, body and everything else looked stock….i decided to run with a castle MM XL2 combo with a 2028/1100kv ….spent way too much on converting this system but considering I got the rig pretty cheap it seemed worth it…..ran it the first time just on 4s .(seemed just as fast if not faster than my buddies stock X-Maxx) was pretty happy with it until I came down from a wheelie and heard a clicking noise afterwards……coming from the front. No biggy…tore it apart and yup….ring gear broke 2 teeth. Ordered some GPM gears and aluminum bulk heads. Then I saw the RF shock tower was broken where it bolts to the bulk head…..dang! This is getting ridiculous 😮……figured as long as it was apart I’d upgrade the composite diff carriers also…I’m in this deep…no turning back now! 😂
I bought the belted sledge hammers and I do like them better than the old stock ones. You’re a generous man Earl Moorehead. If I didn’t just cut an ENORMOUS check in August for our daughters College tuitions I’d be a buyer for your beast😂.🤣
Really thinking about it I have never owned a Traxxas xmaxx just got a team corrally kagama last week. But I have always want one but my wife would never let me buy one
I am somewhat confused. (No surprise there). Like you said Earl, what is the difference from what was already available? I just checked the Traxxas site and they say available in Mid-September for what my understanding is model 77096-4. The regular one I bought back in May of this year is the same model and it came with belted tires for $1099 So, what is the difference? Perhaps a new body design?
Earl one of the changes in the "new" Xmaxx with the belted tires is they changed the internal gear ratio. That is the only change I currently know of besides the belted tires.
Absolutely Not!!!! Traxxas makes amazing trucks, but they take advantage of the there following. There GREEDY!!! simply put. Thanks for the vids super informative 👍🏼
I got two Traxxas x-maxx I'm good with those trucks if I buy another one it'll be off marketplace I feel it's a waste of money to keep buying the same thing over and over I have 15 RCs and I have 10 RC broke down in parts 85% of my cars are all armor 15% is Traxxas it's nothing else for me to buy on my end cuz I have mostly all the same cars. I mustly be spend my money on paint bodies and parts parts. I have RC cars like AutoZone😅
damn as if I missed this there so expensive here I would have loved one for half price especially if their only1000 there lol, here they are 1999$ before tax, and without a charger or battery that's another 800$, 3000$ later, and still have to upgrade it because that's not even for the Ultimate.lol
@earlmoorhead5555 Ah no worries Earl! May they enjoy that X-maxx 🤘 I am planning to get the V5 X-maxx at the end of this month (first time owning one). From the looks of it, it still has the monkey metal gears on its spur and pinion 😒 I'm looking forward to you getting that version and doing a rundown of it though 👌
Man that's a smoking deal wish I didn't get the standard version a couple months ago I would have got this forsure even being in canada for what I paid for mine still be cheaper and a better model ....
I have the newest with the belted tires and I’m loving it so far. If I didn’t have it I’d be buying that ultimate from you! Well trying to at least. I think for the 100 more with the belted tires was justifiable in my opinion. It was $1176.95 Out the door in NC. Crazy the tax you got to pay out there!
I would never buy a new xmaxx they have sold it with horible tires since it came out about what 10 years ago they finally put decent tires on it and then raise the price what a joke i like the xmaxx but i buy them used for half price allot of used xmaxx on the market
Something is wrong with traxxas !!! They just keep fumbling “ I seen Kevin Talbot video and said noooo thanks!! For the price of this a DB or Kraton even big rock wayyyyyyyy better!! My opinion..
@@earlmoorhead5555 I'll say this. I want an X-MAXX, but anything beyond the Stampede 4X4, (which I just bought), or the MAXX, I can't afford on my budget. If the XMAXX was 500-800 hundred dollars, then I see myself putting cash on one. BUT $1200 is just, no.

I noticed squeaking in my Xmaxx so I serviced all the bearings. It’s still squeaking and don’t know why. I hear yours is too. Is that normal?
It’s the pins that hold the arms on as they get dirt in them and become tight the pins have to be removed and cleaned
