I'm almost 50 years old and have been gaming regularly since 1980. I follow only a couple channel on youtube and this is one of them. JRPG have long been my favorite genre and I'm so glad you cover so many of them. I really like the excellent footage and analysis while remaining pretty much spoiler free in your videos while highlighting gameplay. This channel should be so much more popular than it is. Thank you for what you do from this old gamer.
Great review. I’ve seen so many reviews writing off this game basing it on the initial hours. I just got the last playable character and this is a game that just continues to grow. The narrative has some nice twists and turns so far, the characters are surprisingly endearing, and the combat continues to expand. It’s just a fun game. Not going to be game of the year or move the needle, but just a fun game to get lost in. It’s refreshing.
Gosh this games absolutely gorgeous, I needed this, Theres something about it that is healing to my soul, well done square Enix it's a banger of a game with phenomenal combat and world to explore, this is a great review you've done thankyou
The demo was kind of boring and confusing, same thing happened with the demo of Granblue Fantasy Re:Link, but once you play the full games from the beginning you realize that they are fun and beautiful. Cheers and thanks for the great review
If only Secret of Mana looked this good. Trials of Mana was a solid game, but this takes it to the next couple levels. The Legend of Mana Series cartoon they had was beautiful. Legend of Mana like this would have been amazing. However, I do lament the Echoes of Mana Gacha, it was a beautiful game with a beautiful opening, I do hope they salvage that Gacha into a permanent playable game at some point. I would really love to see them remake Secret of Evermore, but remake it to where the main character gets more playable party members and may expand the story itself a bit with like this game, some post content as well.
there was glimpses of something deeper in the demo when I played. Excited to hear about the depth and customization. New Mana was already interesting for me; but new Mana with a job class system had me sold XD
What’s ToM? If you want a simpler (but very very good jrpg) dragon quest 11 is done very well. One of the best rpgs and just games in general that I have played in a long time. I recently started playing tales of vesperia and that’s been really awesome too!!

So the plot is Final Fantasy 10 with Tidus and Yuna minus Sin coz I played that first back in 2004? Looks beautiful don't get me wrong. Definitely gonna play this.
@@floresjon87 Yes. The point is that Tales of Symphonia added its own spin on the sacrificial team member plot (also used even earlier in Grandia 2 in 2000) which Visions of Mana further increments upon.
Glad to hear the game has merits! I'm actually excited to hear the combat and customization take some time to open up- it sounds like an old school sort of charm. Will be giving this a go!
Hope Square Enix never gives up on their AA IPs (even if they still have $60 price tag lol) Mana series, SaGa series, Star Ocean series, Valkyrie Profile series, all those experimental games like DioField Chronicles.
Just beat the game and it breaks my heart it tanked even in Japan. I think this is the 2nd best JRPG this year after FF7R. P3R has a better story, but the gameplay is better here. SMT V V is debatable as well.
I played both Trials and Visions and all I could say is if you want start gentle, do Trials of mana as that story is giving less emotional damage than visions and have kinda satisfying gameplay to it but if you have a strong will and could take anything, feel free to play visions of mana
Maybe not a popular opinion, but I wanna see one of these games bringing Secret of Evermore forward, no generic fantasy look, lean into the B movie sci-fi the main character used to rant about to have a different look, and just let me do quests with my dog.
I just can't get used to that anthro character's face - the lack of discernible fur makes him really disturbing to me. That said, holy hell, this seems to be _much_ better than I expected! Very glad to hear the demo isn't representative of the combat experience in the full game, too. I found the demo really boring to be honest. Also _really_ glad to hear there's an actual postgame to discover in this one! A good postgame really is a rarity these days.
Gotta say, Square-Enix fans been eating good lately, between all the 2D HD remakes and revisiting franchises like this one and Valkyrie Profile, so much to play! Oh and don’t forget about FF7-Remake 😅
@@xShadowhawkx yeah, the voice work in trials seem to be rushed, and this was especially noticeable after you played Three Houses (one of the voice actresses worked on both games)
