I'm surprised you didn't mention that the absorption minigame heals you and the enemy (most noticeably, the Demon fight). That helps with the whole "oh shit, I didn't 1-try absorb, the enemy could die" problem the game has.
Valkyrie profile had such a fun gameplay. Glad to see you have experience with it. it had turn based combat but wirt real time input requiring you to consider precise timing/Hitbox/wind up duration/kncokback distance/enemy guardbreaks/team combos i wish more games did stuff like this so basically this is a MV but with similar combat now i gotta try this game
Actually this game gameplay is more of a mix between Eternal Sonata and Lightning Returns FFXIII, the way the player phase plays out with a time gauge is very similar to the way player phase play in Eternal Sonata, while the way you attack and block attacks using pretty much every buttons is similar to Lightning Returns, the way you break ennemies by having to exploit specific weaknesses in order to deal more damage is also similar to how Stagger works in Lightning Returns.

Love your reviews man…insightful and thorough. Great channel. I’ve picked up FIST recently and have been enjoying my time despite feeling like I need to power wash my eye balls after.
Spoilers below: Fight against Summum was the only fight in recent time that challenged me as much as absolute radiance did. The randomized weaknesses make it so you can’t memorize anything - need complete and utter understanding of combat in order to kill this thing on time. So much fun fight on repeat after finally pushing through for the first time. For those interested in the mechanics: This is the only fight to my recollection that forces you to dodge while it’s YOUR turn in combat, which you must do while still getting your own attacks in. You do this by swapping between your melee and ranged attacks to ‘dodge’ forward and backward. Amazing game and amazing fight.
I remember Lightning Nightmare had the same mechanic of dodging attacks during your own turn. Pretty late in the fight and not nearly as much as Summum, but still.
So it's basically Sekiro + dmc + turn based Sounds about good enough for me to pick My problem with turn based games is the lack of action ( you just scroll through menus) and the fact that you have to take damage in every encounter, the only TB game I loved was undertale/deltarune because it had bullet hell phase which allows you to avoid all damage if you are good enough I even forgot undertale was a turn based because it doesn't feel like them Worldless seems to be going in a similar direction as undertale but even more action based which is interesting
you should try Valkyria Profile (DS game, but you can emulate on phone/pc who cares), it is a jrpg with real-time turn based combat where you gotta take into consideration actual Hitbox/wind up duration/precise timing/weapon moveset/weapon reach/knockback distance etc. the thing is you control multiple character at the same time(real time) some of them are ranged some are melee and even every character has their own "wind up time" cuz character with slower weapons will take longer with different knockback distance(dustancing is important, you can juggle enemies in the air by multiple of your characters attacks, shove them too far and it might be outta range/hitbox of one ur character and miss out on dps) and area of hitbox, so learning team combos is fun. some enemies that block you need to hit them simultaneously with multiple of your characters at the same time(again, different characters have different wind up time) there is a ranged character that has low dps, but if you can somehow juggle enemies and somehow shove them right in front of him at point blank then he will do massive damage with his sh0tgun blast equivalent attack. it is tons of fun. and the level/dungeons designs are like metroidvania as well, and is basically an open world. underrated gem
@@btchiaintkidding7837 sounds interesting but the emulation part I have a bad experience with emulators and I don't really like using them because they are kind of a mess
You know what game has the best turn based combat? Super Monaco GP on the Sega Genesis. It’s like a metroidvania but with cars and tracks. You have to time your shifts, brake, and accelerate perfectly to beat the other racers. It’s so satisfying when you win the championship and get to see the credits. Plus, the music is awesome. Trust me, you won’t regret playing this gem. It’s way better than Prince of Persia.
I’m glad I got to see this game’s (kinda awful) UI for the absorption mini-game here. Ever since I got a Steam Deck last year, I’ve pretty much stopped buying games digitally for the Switch, but I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the Xbox/Steam layout for the face buttons. I think playing this on the Deck would’ve broken me. My backlog’s deep enough that I can give it a few months at least to see if a physical gets announced. And if not, eShop here I come.
Game is gorgeous, soundtrack is amazing and the controls both in platforming and combat are tight. It's unique and fun but the difficulty ramps up to astronomical levels at the end. There's no way in hell that i'd ever beat that demon enemy or the true final boss... I played till the bad ending and called it quits there
I pronounce a lot of early anime stuff wrong sometimes. We didn’t know how to say stuff when I was a kid. Bad pronunciation still slips out to this day. My worst offense is Manga. We called it MAIN-ga growing up 😆
My man is committed to his long intro gags

Really cool that i get to know smaller metroidvanias from this channel
Omigod that quick dig at Jirard Khalil was 👌
💀
Downloaded this game yesterday. This is just divine timing!
I could listen to you talk about MVs for hours, which I probably have. I can’t wait for your take on Prince of Persia
Same

Thank you!
And, yeah, FIST wasn’t the prettiest 😆
NGL the gauntlet was the most fun I had with this game.

I was actually waiting to pick this up until I saw a review by you. Thank you.
Hope you enjoy it!

I wonder if i should play new prince of persiq
The answer is yes.
Yes
I concur: yes
Ever played the DS castlevanias?
Yes, sir. I like all three 😊
Ive never heard "Evangelion" pronounced that way
I pronounce a lot of early anime stuff wrong sometimes. We didn’t know how to say stuff when I was a kid. Bad pronunciation still slips out to this day.

I do not like the art style but if you say it is good.
The style’s not for everyone, but the gameplay is solid.
Prince of Persia review when
I think he mentioned its the next video
This 👆
Okay, you've convinced me it's a hard no for me. Thanks.
No worries. It’s not for everyone. Glad I could help in your decision.
