    Gorgeous spreads as usual 🩵.
    As a Brit it was really interesting to hear you say Wendell sounds like a very British name because the use of that name immediately let me know the writer was North American and didn’t know the UK that well. I was like Wendell, really, for an Irish man?

    • @ErinSmith
      @ErinSmith  12 дней назад +1

      🤣 that’s so interesting! Maybe it was the ‘Bambleby’ moreso for me, she does address him by his surname for most of the book

    • @SusanYeske701
      @SusanYeske701 8 дней назад +2

      Yeah, Wendell is such an inbred upper class English nobby name, I never would guess from the name he is supposed to be Irish. And the last name didn't sound Irish either.

    I love the way you've set up the spreads in the TN size! I took part in the Bewitched Bingo and managed to complete the board (I finished 3 books in the last 2 days 😅). I had such fun with it, even if I am slightly burnt out and taking it a bit slower this month (that always happens to me after a big reading month)! Favourite October pick was probably Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell, it was a re-read but I loved it just as much as the first time I read it nearly 20 years ago.
    For November my focus is half gothic/dark academia and half cosy, and I was actually debating The Last Tale of the Flower Bride as one of the possibilities, so that's definitely on my list now after your review. ❤

    I admit I had a giggle when you mentioned ScoMo as well - especially since I live in the ACT! Reading wise in October, I was doing not just your Bewitched Book Challenge, but also Victober. So I read a wide variety of books 😸
    For your challenge, I started with Mort (it was a reread) and enjoyed it so much, I went on to read the other four books in the Death book set (Soul Music, Reaper Man, Hogfather, Thief of Time). I was reading hardcopy but also listening to the audiobooks. I listened to the same version as you described- it was an excellent audiobook. I watched the Practical Magic movie rather than reading that book, but will get to the book, I have requested it from the library.
    I read other stuff for your challenge, but need to go back and match stuff to your bingo board.
    It was a fun challenge, thank you. 🔑

    I love Terry Pratchett and if you liked Mort with Death, I would highly recommend reading The Hogfather for December - imagine Death as Santa!!! that is all I will say but it's one of my favourite Discworld novels that doesn't involve the witches.🗝

    You can still move The House in the Cerulean Sea down (so all the covers are level) and cover the star rating stamp with the book cover, then stamp a new star rating under it. Use the white out pen to cover any of the original star rating stamp if it peeks out from the edges of the book cover.

    I'm so sorry for being annoying with another comment, but on 160 gsm paper, if you want soft less pigmented colour, it can be helpul to use a well pallette, and mix the watercolour with water in there first - what this does, it dilutes the colour, and then you can pick that up with your brush, but you can control the amount of water you're using, bc the pigment has already been added!

    I read Mort for October as well. Mainly I needed something like a discworld book. To help with the horror book/s I read for spooky season. Surprisingly I read more ,in October, then I thought I would. My top book for October is either Mort, or one of the hellboy comics. After how many books I read in Oct. I'm slowing way down for the rest of the year 🗝.

    I'm reading the Plated Prisoner series! SO GOOD. It's got a few trigger warnings listed on the amazon page for good reason -- but the character growth and journey is a beautiful thing to witness. She starts in a dark place though, so I caution people who want to read this series to be prepared. But seriously, awesome twist on the Kind Midas story, it's got crazy magic, and it's just over all stunningly written. I highly recommend the first three books of the six book series, and I'm in the middle of book four. The romance partner doesn't show up til book two! Crazy, right?

    For November I want to read the next ToG book and the next Crowns of Okrith book (I'd better get started LOL), I finished up the gold weaver trilogy and the fated to darkness trilogy, read the spell shop for book club, and am currently working on Level Up by Rob Dial (I throughly enjoy his mindset mentor podcast). 🗝 I LOVED the Emily Wilde book! I just finished it a week ago. I think Wendell's name is ridiculous but it also makes sense assuming that he picked a new fake name to sound human and didn't know the difference. It is decidedly not an Irish name (this coming from someone in Arizona USA). I just can't stop thinking about that book. Such beautiful writing, it feels cold and it feels warm depending on the scene, so sweet and cozy, and a compelling mystery. I can't WAIT to read the sequel!
    Also, your CAWPILE system seems a bit harsh to me, like hard for you to ever reach 5 stars.
    Also, I'm very excited for you to read Project Hail Mary (fave book of the month of January 2024) and Cerulean Sea (top 5 fave of 2023)! (My other 4 were Ink Blood Sister Scribe, Anxious People, Ender's Game, and A Christmas Carol)

    My favorite book of October (and likely all of 2024) was The Bee Sting by Paul Murray. I loved it so much that it immediately earned a spot on my Great Re-Read list. I’ve curated a list of 24 books that deeply affected me when I read them (some recently, some over 30 years ago, and all the time in between) and I’m curious to see what current me thinks of them (similar to your comment about the Pratchett book). So I’m challenging myself to re-read two of these books a month over the next year. Which brings me to what I’m reading now: Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. She released an annotated edition for the 20th anniversary and that’s the book that inspired (and kicked off) the re-read. Sorry this comment is getting so long but Project Hail Mary is also on the list - I LOVED that book and hope you do too. I also noticed I Want to Die but I Want to Eat Tteokbokki on your list - this may be the first time I’ve read any books you’re journaling about and for November, there are two! Woot! And last thing : 🗝️
