What about new game sponsors rather than brand sponsors on twitch I’m still shocked it’s on 2k on twitch overall. Thank you for the video learnt allot.
Very interesting video. I can confirm from my own experience that this is exactly how it has worked for me. As a Twitch Partner, and a TikToker, I’ve gotten tons of offers for sponsored content. My RUclips has always gotten the biggest offers and this video really helped me understand why. Thanks for continuing to make content like this!
"Focus on the content, focus on becoming as markable and as influential as you possibly can and as soon as you're ready to be signed - they'll reach out to you". So much wisdom in one sentence👍
Just for reference, where you live also changes what's a liveable wage. Me coming from Malaysia, you can live okay on 600USD a month / 7,200 USD a year. If you're in a lower income nation, you can get by with a lot less and still be comfortable. Not saying anything in the video is wrong, just a side note for context.
You also get paid less by sponsors and get lower advertising rates so it all balances out. The same amount of work and success generates less income if you are from a lower income country unless your success is global.
@@backgammonbacon That's only true if the sponsors are local. All of the sponsors I have gotten are based in the US or Europe, so I charge them US or Europe rates, even when I was in Malaysia. Also, on RUclips, that depends which audience you build. If you're in Malaysia and you build a Malaysian audience, then the ads generating you revenue are Malaysian ads. So what I did was built an international audience, so US viewers seeing US ads at US rates, I get my cut of that and it's worth 4X more to me. Same on Twitch, Twitch subs are localised pricing, so if you get US subs they're paying $5 while a Malaysian sub is paying like $1.45, so building an international audience pays a lot more. Edit: Ah you edited in the point on global success, which yes that's my point, and on these platforms you can make your success global much easier than any other career or business. Global success on the Internet is kind of the point of it all, to not limit yourself geographically.
Would love to see a video on what rates to expect/aim for on the different platforms, at different follower counts. Growing fast on tiktok, starting to recieve a decent amount of sponsorship requests, but they're simply not worth my time. I feel like a lot of companies are trying to low-ball new creators who aren't represented in any way.
Harris, Something I struggle with that I would love to hear your input on is this. As a small creator, would you recommend prioritizing growth over monetization? I often fight myself internally on “should I charge the one or two people that may actually pay for this feature, or do I make it free/cost channel points instead in order to incentivize more people to come use it and get more eye balls on me?” I think the right answer is to prioritize growth as a small creator, but I also hear people say not to sell yourself or your services short as a content creator. Thanks!
The only companies that have ever approached me for sponsorships are ones that I'm not interested in, such as games I have no desire to play, or clothing companies that appear to be scams, or joke companies like Raze Energy. I see streamers smaller than me with legit sponsors, I just don't think I am sponsorship material, I'm not "pretty" and too "old" to be a streamer anyway... I'll just stick with doing it for fun, maybe take the occasional partnership/affiliate and not worry about sponsors or huge numbers.
Number 3389 reporting for duty, let me say yes i agree sponsored streams do not bring in insane numbers. You know what does? Starting a business or working on yt content enough to get monetized! the biggest sponsor i have ever made was tiktok and it was through amazon! so i know twitch advert does not MAKE much especially if you are not in the top 1000 streamers! Thanks harris for the good video!
In terms of the finding your American wage figure you did it in a way to cut off the millionaires that make the number less accurate, however when it came to the percentage of streamers calculation you kept in the entire streamer population where it’d probably give you a more accurate result if you take it from those who get a certain viewership say 7+ to show those who are more than likely streaming to go full time. Granted the number will still be low but I think going deeper in both sides instead of just one would be more accurate. Great vid once again
I would confirm this is how it works even for someone of my size. Some things have worked out well and some I have learned the hard way. Great video bro
Usually speaking the more you grow your socials as long as your business email is visible you will get more offers sent to it. I get quite a few now n days in comparison to when I was a smaller channel. Now however I don’t really want to deal with all the negotiations so I’m going to sign with an agency who will do that for me + have connections with major brands to help me out. Just understand you won’t pull massive sponsorships right away and I wish he would have covered actual sponsorships which pay creators a salary to be partnered with them. I feel that wouldn’t happen much for Harris due to his content style but someone like shroud could easily lock in a contract with any gaming peripheral company and that would pay a ton every month. There are quite a few ways to make money as a creator, but it all requires you to have reach/influence
Been watching this channel for awhile and have been taking notes and I'm launching a new channel this week with a planned rollout of livestreaming, Tiktok reals content and a clips channel. You've helped a ton in the planning process. I plan on dropping updates in your comment sections in the future. Thanks for all your help.
something I've noticed recently on this channel is the amount of RUclips verified accounts there tend to be in the comments, its the most I've ever seen on any channel other then like PewDiePie. I think it shows how helpful the information you say is, if a lot of the people who watch this channel have become successful off of listening to some of the content on this channel I think it says a lot. thank you for all the great content.
My issue is knowing who is a legit person. I have multiple people messaging me over the last month saying they want to sponsor my channel but they could literally be anyone in the world lying. Some just coming right out offering me thousands a months, from legit companies and sites. But how do I prove they are legit?
Great video and good points made. I won't lie your channel has influenced me to take further steps in confidence to start streaming and making RUclips videos. Thank you.
Aye Harris, I don't know if you will ever see this message but I just wanna take a time out to complement your hard work. I also wanted to ask one question, what exactly were thinking about when u started to be a content creator? I'm really planning on doing it cause personally I love the computer work and also gaming. But what exactly u started thinking about to find your niche?
This video is the complete counter argument to the great youtube studio. A dark room with a camera, and a good mic. All about the content the rest of that is just a distraction.
the twitch leak thing works well but we also dont know how many streamed that entire 2 years generally speaking a LOT of people on that list had not even been streaming that full 2 years or the majority was made in the most recent one
Off topic from the video, the audio in this video is amazing. Could you do a video that shows your equipment and process? Even though that room doesn't have its drywall up I would imagine that your voice has got to be reverberating some in there. If I wasn't watching it I would have thought I was listening to a premium podcast.
"..If you stream for fun then I don't now why you're watching these Videos.." - Because I like them and they taught me a lot about the industry and streaming in general? aaaaand maybe because you are a very charismatic and handsome man. I don't know what draws me in more tbh xD
Ah yes, sponsors are just jumping at me, this video is very much relevant for me hahaha lol gonna go make my cash money bling bling now thank you Alpha
Do you ever have scammy sponsorship emails? And if so, how do you decipher the good ones from the bad? And what can you do as a guideline to protect yourself?
hey Harris, I'm curious what your demographics are for you YT channel. I watch your vids to try to expand my Twitch, YT and TikTok channel in hopes to make a living. But when you talk about "only" having 100,000 subscribers when a management team reached out to you. I'm wondering if your demographics are mostly people over or under 100k subs. The amount of time it takes to get 100k subs could be years for some people. Don't forget the little guys that are still struggling to hit 1000 subs.
another factor is how many of those streamers that do make the income above average are part time streamers (current celebrities, athletes etc.) and make those numbers doing it part time if you take them out that number is probably even lower.
I don't watch these videos because I stream for money and I don't watch them because I stream for fun. I don't stream, but I like you Harris and I like learning new stuff ❤️💪
Making money on Twitch is the inverse of making money in retail usually those who have been around the longest in retail don’t make as much as those who have just started working in retail which is interesting to see.
FYI Harris, I didn’t click when the title was ‘How to get MORE from sponsors’ but I did click when the title was switched to ‘ Why some brands pay more’. 🕶🤙🏻
You need to take into account that a streamer pays self employment tax as well meaning they’d need to be way over median or average income. They also need to pay 100% of their health insurance so really it’s probably overly generous to say the top 2k make more than the average person.
Most people earning $30k aren't getting health insurance from their employer either, so that's a wash. The taxes are a good point. There's also a huge amount of variability in the cost of living for your local area, but none of this changes his basic point. Most people who stream aren't even going to come close to earning a living from ad revenue. Then again, the vast majority haven't built a big enough audience to earn much from sponsorships either. There's just a really low rate of success all the way around.
@@TapCat I made about $800 in 2-3 years streaming on Twitch at 150-200 hours a month for much of that time. The reality is streaming is a terrible way to make a living and 99.9999% of people that try will fail.

This is all without even considering the fact that you can earn more ad revenue by cross-posting the same content you upload to RUclips onto your Facebook Page, which is never spoken about!

It's slightly same in Serbia, people live comfortably with 500 or 600 euros
