Unpopular opinion, but this is my favorite project that J Cole has ever put out. There is just something about the hunger for success that he had in this mixtape that just resonates with me so much. This mixtape got me through one of the worst times in my life a couple years ago. I can't wait to see your Dad's reaction to this whole project, especially on Before I'm Gone, Premeditated Murder, and Farewell (my three favorites off of this mixtape).
The music itself is definitely pretty dated in todays terms, but you're right about that hunger. I used to listen to this tape omw home from 8th grade, and I never imagined he would get as big as he has since then
There’s a few songs that sound dated (blow up comes to mind) but for the most part the production is pretty timeless imo
@@BridgingTheGapYT i shoulda toned down the strength of my statement 😂 there are indeed plenty of great instrumentals and melodies on this but I think his beat selection along with his own production getting way better down the line, that's all

I don’t think it’s unpopular opinion. Most who have heard both Friday Night Lights and The Warm Up will call it his best work!
One of my favorite cole projects, can hear the grit and hunger in his voice during that time in his life. Resonated with our generation (25-30 year olds) cause we were in school during that time, and we were heavy on that datpiff mixtape grind.
I'll never forget how badly people slept on Cole. Shit used to get me tight especially after this dropped. Like yo, DO Y'ALL HEAR THIS?!!

I remember telling people he would be one of the greatest ever in high school. This tape was a game changer for me where Cole is concerned. Still feel he is very underrated.
Omen is signed to Dreamville. He produces a lot and he's working on his solo album. Elegant Eyes was his first solo project but the sampling wasn't cleared so he couldn't drop it on platforms. It's such a great album.

I lost my dad in 2015. This channel is like therapy for me because it reminds me of the connection music made between me and my old man. I would put him on all the new stuff I liked and he would always give his honest reaction. Miss those times and when I watch you guys and it always brings me joy.

This has to be one of my favorite Cole projects of all time frfr it has been in my playlist forever this mixtape has gotten me through some tough times in life and im happy I got to see him perform some of these songs in concert it was truly an amazing experience

Omen is on Jcoles record label Dreamville he was on coles mixtapes the come up the warmup and Friday night lights then he started implementing more artists on his tapes like Bas Cozz Jid etc. And now Bas has become like one of the main Dreamville artists on his albums nowadays but Cole and Omen are still cool

Friday Night Lights is the second greatest mixtape of all time in my opinion only to So Far Gone which changed the game. Cole stated that Drizzy changing the game made him go back and actually add the original tracks that were meant for his first onto the mixtape tracklist. Thank god he did, those are some of my fav!

This art work about Jcole be cut from his basketball team in high school but he didnt give up and he actually made the team hence the name of his albums and mixtapes the come up the warmup and Friday night lights and then his debut project Coleworld the sideline story its amazing how he incorporates real life into his story telling he didnt give up on his dreams and finally made his varsity basketball team and the next project I want to hear is the warmup

I became a j.cole fan because of this mixtape once I heard Friday night lights I’m like ok he got it
Omen put out an album called Elephant Eyes in 2015 which I think is a classic, but he was forced to take it down because the samples weren’t cleared. It’s still on YT, SoundCloud and possibly the Dreamville website. I think he’s working on a new album now he just takes a long time because he produces his music as well.

Still play this mixtape till this day! I think to keep it with artists who had to make their own beats in order to make it, we should definitely react/listen to Krit Wuz Here by Big Krit!
