I love that you pointed out that the wing’s on Griffith’s armor are unsafe because there’s a reason for that! Griffith actually wears wings on his armor because he prioritizes appearance over safety as the story goes on. He doesn’t see himself as someone who could genuinely be in danger so a lot of the time, he wears very over the top decorative armor instead of genuinely practical armor. Major thing to note about the berserker armor. If the wearer is harmed through, say, blunt trauma that leaves their arm broken the armor will use metal pins to put it back into place. This does not heal him, it simply holds him together until he dies of bloodloss
Yeah berserk armor is always super detailed and pretty damn accurate and realistic Its one thing i really love about berserk and also another reason i got into historical arms and armor as a hobby Id recommend you take a look at the series or just skimm through the art with arms and armor because there are some examples of proto sallet's in there along with other neat weapons and armor history easter eggs in there

Something to consider about the armors used is that they also represent the social status and wealth of the characters, so most of them dont wear plate armor because itd be too expensive to have. Also, there are several times where where someone is fighting against someone else in plate, and instead of trying to actually attack the more heavily armored opponent, grappling is used to tale them down and either kill through the eye/pit gaps or just capture them for ransom(since people in full plate can be expected to have rich families). Of course, the one exception is guts, who literally tears through plate armor like tissue paper.
