    I’m gonna hook my UB -9000 up to my XLR for 2-channel! Right now I have a Pioneer-PDF-93 that I run through my ES-A6/ME for a great sound!
    My buddy Rick gave me the Pioneer CD Player because he’s always upgrading! He did an upgrade path on the Pioneer CD and it is to die for! I’m very happy! 0:55

    Nice review. I haven't seen a lot of reviews of the CD capabilities of this player. I picked this up for the analog stereo output. The other day I had a damaged CD that skipped in my Marantz HD-CD1 CD player and tried it in the Panasonic. I was so impressed. I tried several other CD's and determined it was much better on every CD allowing me to pull the Marantz from my signal chain. Maybe use it in another system. My only disappointment is the dearth of streaming apps that can be loaded. And once loaded no way that I can see to remove the app. It has Netflix, Amazon Movies and RUclips though

    Hi- please tell me if your unit is the original UB9000PK unit or the newer UB9000P1K, which has different DACs .
    “Panasonic's second version of its flagship UHD Blu-ray player, UB9000, has a new DAC but is otherwise identical to the first one. It will be available in Europe and the US this summer.
    Panasonic UB9000 mk2
    When Panasonic introduced its 2021 TV line-up back in March, it also said that it would refresh the UB9000 UHD Blu-ray player. It is now official although the launch has been slightly delayed.
    - "UB9000 will come back in May 2021, same specifications but new sound processor," Panasonic told us in March. "It will keep the same specifications as before. It is not planned right now to add SACD & DVD-A."
    The company was forced to replace the DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter), from AKM to ESS, as the production facility had been destroyed in a fire.”

    I also have this player. The only negative is that it does not play SACD or DVD-Audio. I'm not sure that it is a differential design either. That makes balanced outputs better, otherwise it's converting single-ended to balanced.

    • @Audiolympian
      @Audiolympian  3 года назад +2

      Yes that is a bummer as I have a few SACD’ and dvd audio. I called and talked to them at Panasonic to find out for sure if it was a differential design because I wanted to compare with the Oppo 205, I was told it was. So maybe. Thanks for watching

    • @RodneyAllanPoe
      @RodneyAllanPoe 3 года назад +1

      That is fantastic news about the differential design. I just saw a technical presentation by Panasonic reps that showed a simplified balanced signal path for the balanced outs. Separate audio power supply, high-end analogue components and chassis design are also important features. You can turn off the video circuits to optimise audio output too.
      My old Oppo 83 does SACD and DVD Audio. My Musical Fidelity CD player/DAC does the music duties into 2.0 amps that are balanced and differential. 👍

    • @Audiolympian

      @@RodneyAllanPoe sounds like you got a killer system! I have an old pioneer DVD player that plays SACD and dvd audio. It also has an ok dac system in it. I use that for those discs. I watched some videos too about the ub9000, it didn’t mention a differential design, that’s what triggered me to call. I wish I could get my hands on a 205 to really compare. I had only heard one at a show once, it did sound incredible.

    Hi there.
    I'm looking for 4K blu ray player as well, with very good CD sound too. I used to have a Panasonic UB900, movies sounded absolutely amazing on it. Music from CDs was very clear but unfortunately it wasn't very dynamic and had a flat bass... I was very disappointed, in fact I connected it to my receiver thorugh the HDMI port and it could have been the reason for these bass problems.
    I've sold the Panasonic and I bought a PlayStation 5, unfortunately PS5 doesn't read audio CDs.
    So I'm looking for a good CD player again.
    I don't mind spending some extra money for Panasonic 9000 but I'm very worried about missing bass again.

      Good question. On a soundbar you may not notice a much of a difference. And yes I’ve found rca is superior for sound more than hdmi when your using true audio formats like 5.1 or 7.1 but for Atmos you have to have hdmi. The reason I believe it is that way is because the hdmi cable has a lot of jobs to do and interconnects only have one job. So a dac does help improve clarity and detail but I feel rca is more robust. Having an xlr connector on a component doesn't guarantee anything. Its just a 3 conductor connector. Balanced operation is something else, and you need more than just xlr connectors. Both components you are connecting have to be balanced in order to get any benefit. Without making a long, technical post, if everything isn't there to make a balanced connection, the system will usually still play music, and the average person won't know any better. To put it simply, when the connection is not balanced, you use 2 of the 3 conductors on the cable, and its identical to using an rca cable. And that's what happens in most cases. People think they're operating in balanced mode, when in reality, the connection they have is identical to using an rca cable. Also, the explanation in the video on how balancing works is not correct. The 3rd pin isn't a ground. The extra conductor carries a signal. A single ended connection has a signal and a ground, balanced has 2 signals and a ground. The signals are the same except they are out of polarity with each other. This allows for what's called common mode noise rejection. For anyone that's curious as to how it works, there's no shortage of info out there that can do a better job explaining it than I can do in a short post. Just do a search and you'll see plenty of options.
    Anyway, here's what you need to check. Look at the specs for both pieces you are connecting. XLR jacks aren't enough. If you really have a balanced component, you'll see 2 sets of specs. One for single ended operation and one for balanced. The output on the balanced connection is usually 6 db higher than the unbalanced connection (On some gear its 4 db, but its still higher.). Also, you can't mix balanced and unbalanced components. They're not compatible, so it has to be one or the other. Many balanced components have some way to switch between both modes of operation, and you'll see some warnings about all this in the manual. So, if you done see anything like what I just said in the last couple of sentences, assume your component with xlr connections is not balanced. Using them is exactly the same as using rca cables.

    I have this player. It’s the most expensive paper weight I’ve owned. It failed after just 12 months. Panasonic estimated a $750 repair, this thing was $1200. I will never buy another Panasonic product. The warranty is laughable.
