Putin Fails To Win CSTO Allies’ Support On Ukraine War l Another Setback Amid NATO Expansion?

- Leaders of the Russia-led Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) met on May 16 amid the Ukraine crisis. Russian President Vladimir Putin tried to use the summit to strengthen the bloc of ex-Soviet states against the West. The CSTO is viewed as Putin’s bid to form a Eurasian regional order, an alternative to the Western liberal order. The summit was supposed to be a celebratory meeting to commemorate the group's founding 30 years ago. However, some experts believe the summit instead demonstrated discord among some of Putin's friendly neighbours.

Let's face it, CSTO is the 'please don't invade me, Russia' club. It doesn't strike me as created out of collective interest or ideological commonality.
It's also the "Hey Russia, can you help me brutally crush the protests against me?" club.
@@eurodoc6343 kinda but Armenia and Tajikistan ain't like others
Well, there is a common ground between most of the members: "Russia, please keep me in power".
Oh yeah leave them alone and keep your noses out of their business. NATO does same only in different ways
I see, I don’t know why it is paining u guys. Maybe I know? 😂😂
Putin must really be desperate. He actually ditched his ridiculously long tables in order not to offend these clowns.
His clowns like to obey the dictator :-(

After Ukraine and short of China, Japan and Nato counties, Russia has no other neighbours...
Putin needs a victory after Ukraine. China, Japan and Nato is too strong... who else can Putin attack? The Russian military is in no condition to support an expiditionary invasion force into (say) Africa or SE Asia. So who else can Putin attack
*NATO Article 5* -- An attack against a member is treated as an attack against all members.
*CSTO Article 5* -- We support Russia invading a sovereign country as long as: 1) the invasion goes well, 2) Russia shares the loot, and 3) the invaded country is *not* a member of NATO.
hahahaha
Russia is very afraid of nato, when will nato destroy Moscow? come on nato
Heh that's a quite funny post.
🤣🤣🤣🤣 this is a good one seriously 😂
We are the "good guy" and they are the "bad guys":)
Most of Russia's allies are themselves authoritarian regimes too. Autocrats do not want to get involved in foreign wars, because they need their military at home to support their regime. Bringing their army abroad into an unpopular war would just expose themselves to public dissatisfaction and potential coups from unhappy military commanders.
Relevant observations and a astute comment!
And the US doesnt deal with authoritarian regimes, right? :))
Good point...
But how many of thoose countrys has sendt soldiers ? Guess is none from Moscow and St peterburg .

I looked up the GDP of the 6 members. Combined, it is 1,742 billion, with Russia providing 85% and 15% coming from the other 5 nations besides Russia (Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan). Collectively, that represents half the GDP of California.

Unbelievable that Putin managed to put himself at the head of a round table and shows just how Russia sees itself relative to its "allies."
He even stepped down from the megalomaniac looong table arrangement, used to portray his grandeur, when real world class leader visited him in his Glorious Russian Third Reich
It's quite disrespectful

I hope CSTO members realize Putin's irrational and uncalled for war and invasion of Ukraine, and that by showing any support for Putin they, too will be instantly sanctioned. Over the last few months the sanctions have developed into a wider and wider range of unpleasant effects on Russia's whole population over Putin's actions.
If the sanctions are all Putins fault then the Russian people need to remove him. If they don’t then they deserve the sanctions too.
What help could Putin have expected from this summit?
Russia and Belarus are already in it, Armenia can't do anything because of the Azeri threat, Kazakhstan has been critical of this war from the start and the last two, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, have neither the desire nor the means to to be involved in this conflict.
Of what use is an alliance that can't generate support for its members?
@@WhiteDragon689
It's a defensive alliance. If Ukraine kicked Russian a** on the Russian territory, it would make sense for them to get involved. If Russia does its usual business with ruining other countries' day, then no reason for CSTO to do anything.
Looking for love in all the wrong places.
@@nagaokagetora8562 But pootin is trying to get support for his war that is going horribly wrong. Russia can't stand to keep this up for long. Maybe he was just trying to get permission to annex them, lol.
I would love to see Lukashenko send Belarus troops to Ukraine. His power in Belarus is hanging on by a thin thread as it is. Without Putin’s involvement, Lukashenko would have been overthrown through his rigged reelection. If he actually tries to send troops into Ukraine, he will find his own troops might start to turn on him. Ukraine will be helping any Belarusians who will revolt to take down this dictator. This whole thing would remind me of Italy’s Mussolini tried to join forces with Hitler during WWII only ended up with Italians rise up to have him overthrown. I believe something similar would happen with Lukashenko if he chooses to send armies into Ukraine.
I agree. The people of Belarus are just looking for an opportunity to overthrow the fascist pig Lukashenko !
especially since whole groups of Belarussians are training and getting equipped in Poland and entering Ukraine to get combat experience to take back home.

They are each calculating their own chances of getting away from Russia without being invaded.
It will be easy later on.
A joint venture between Ukraine and Belarus could annex Eastern Ukraine and solve the deep rooted Nazi problems in Cremlin, once and for all!
🤣 perfect summation.
You bet. That's exactly right.
@Gamit Batmitziev would be a delight if megalomaniac Putin ended up fueling a few more Majdan uprisings in that desolate region ...
Absolute rubbish. Post 2014, Ukraine has done a lot internally, politically and militarily to build itself but was coming from a low base. Any country fighting off Russia’s weight of numbers in manpower and equipment would need help. Ukraine has improved itself with its application to join the EU. It isn’t there yet and probably wont be for some time now but it was working in a forward direction. Russia continued to white ant its endeavours through the separatist rebels it planted in the Donbas. Ukraine is in the unfortunate situation of being like the ex-girlfriend that the boyfriend cannot let go and believes to be his.
If Russia gets Invaded then I expect those CSTO members to join and help Russia but in this Ukrainian war doesn't make sense other countries joining when Russia is clearly inflicting a lot of damage to Ukrainians
I expect them to make great show of trying to help but then saying sorry Russia we ran out of gas on the way...or sorry, flat tire might take year or two to replace
Before the invasion they were probably telling him: "yeah boss, that's a great plan ... you're a genius, we're with you 100%. Afterwards: (sound of crickets chirping).
And immediately after that: (sound of firing squad).

can’t persuade them....We can always kill them !
And later the sound of human farts...

The time is right for the West to start training Belarusian oppositions with arms combat and handling weapons. The moment Lukashenko sends his army into Ukraine, Belarusian oppositions can smuggle arms into Belarus from the north and west rapidly to take Minsk and Lukashenko hostage. With Western help, the Belarusian army can be offered better pay, conditions and modernisation, if they join the opposition. After all 80% voted against Lukashenlo in the last election, surely the numbers have not changed and they freedom fighters are more resolved. It's time to free Belarus. Imagine if russia had emerged from soviet Union more like Germany emerged from nazism and had made more of an effort to develop itself and its people. If that had been the case, Ukraine and Finland might even have been petitioning to join the Russian federation now. Funny how karma has caught up with Putin, and his 17th century attitudes.
Probably not Finland but Ukraine for sure if they had a very strong economy and a democratic government
You have no idea what you are talking about.
And what about Russia joining NATO ? Putin always says that NATO is a threat, but what about NATO being Russia's friend instead... as you say, if Putin was not that bellicose, I'm sure he could have created a trustworthy strong Russia...
Have you looked at the history of Russia and the history of their gdp. They had a lot of growth over the years. The growth stunted due to sanctions because the west does not want Russia's or anyone's economy to surpass theirs. They want someone below them and with a puppet regime. Look at how crazy Germany is looking now without Putin's gas and high inflation! Puppet regimes never win.
Russia was unlucky. Gorbachev didn't last long and I'm not sure if he had a vision. Post dissolution, Yeltsin was more alcoholic than leader. Putin followed and despite his experience in the west as a KGB agent, he fell back upon the worst of Russian tendencies - strong dictators in the Stalinist mould. It had everything to develop into an industrial state, but lapsed into a corrupt dictatorship

It's not even a question of economic strength! Russia is completely incapable of delivering anything useful for a modern society!
That's why western sanctions are so powerful.. Without our valuable technology this club of megalomaniac old id!ots and their miserable countries will slide further down in deep misery!
It proofs why democracy are so important to create healthy nations!
Without a well educated supportive population misery and failure is prescribed ...
Because Putin lives in a Soviet fantasy world, where NATO is planning on crashing through the borders of the sacred motherland to murder the vodka fairies and steal the fountain of bliss from its place in Moscow.
@@OmmerSyssel Democracy has it's pros and cons but the main difference is in the private sector. Most western companies sink or swim based on their own competency and competition drives innovation, Take formula 1 for example as a democracy where each team is a company that needs to produce the best car(product) within the rules & regulations while any spec series represents the other, same cars for all there is still innovation but on a smaller scale. In many cases sports, politics and business all need healthy competition to truly benefit the people, look at what happened to intel when they had no real competition for a decade, sub par products at too much cost because consumers had no other option

@@OmmerSyssel Nope i am not but i am from a country that has a more simillar leadership structure to russia then the US that's why i see free trade and competition as healthy after seeing how a fast rising economy and industry stagnates when the state has too many hands in the economy. While authoritarian leadership has its pros there are also cons, I work with gov ministries doing national projects where i see how cronyism almost guarantees sub par results without competition to push for the best since being passable is already good enough. This might skew my views a little but i am open to other views and feel free to disagree with my opinion as i am interested to know how other people from different backgrounds and cultures view the same topic that's why i drop comments mostly to see the replies

Putin is still stuck in the glory days of the USSR 😂. Man wake up, it's over, you're a declining russia. You're only hurting your own country hahaha
If you side with a party in a conflict, you should side with the winner. Putin doesn’t look like a winner right now
What a fabulously ornate meeting place with some real craftsmanship, now imagine it blown to pieces by artillery, and you get an idea of what the Ukrainians are going through, so much easier to destroy than create.

It would be good to see some younger leaders with an investment in a decent future around the table rather than this bunch of geriatrics.
A movie like missile strike would be a delight for all of us...

It is an economic war and the impression that is obvious is that Russia and China have already won
Well he is already getting screwed and the recent war has shown his military is a paper tiger, so it's not surprising how the others would react.
There's no point in helping him out and he can't put pressure on them unless he wants more enemies and that's something he can't afford right now.
Can he get even more enemies? 🤔
He doesnt have enough trained military men as it is.
The CSTO countries, except Belarus should withdraw from CSTO like Georgia and Azerbaijan. The fate of CSTO will be the same as of the Warsaw Pact.
Let’s start with NATO first!!!
As long as Russia exist NATO should be there.

Why? Eukraine is not a nato country. For good reason. We are not sending our men and women to fight Ukraine's war. Not going to happen.
Russia has already deployed assistance from Russian friendly countries. The truth of the matter is that until ordinance starts hitting Moscow and St. Petersburg and all the major towns and cities in between Russian people are going to support Putin. UKRAINE IS DOING IT NOW INSIDE RUSSIA. UKRAINE WOULD DO THE SAME THING IN BELARUS
Compare putin and his army with hitler and his army.
1. They commit mass murder of civilians when they feel like doing so.
2. They march exactly the same way, in an extraordinarily distinctive way.
3. putin does exactly as hitler did when he lost confidence in his generals. He took command of the forces.
4. The result of the takeover was exactly as when hitler did the same. His army failed miserably due to poor tactics.
5. hitler had no qualms whatsoever about killing civilians in order to reach his goal. Again, we see exactly the same behavior in putin.
6. Hitler wanted more space and launched an expansionist policy just as putin is doing the same against Ukraine and certainly if everything had gone his way, he would have done the same to the rest of the former Soviet Union!
So putin can DEFINITELY BE COMPARED WITH hitler, and he can DEFINITELY BE CALLED HITLER OF THE NEW AGE!
The USSR didn’t need any lessons from the nazis, the commies were murdering people by the millions before the nazis even took power. Putin has no room in his heart for Hitler, he’s in love with Stalin and the USSR wonderland he created.
German soldiers had more disapline than Russian Soldiers and the Nazis didn't have much oil unlike Russia. I wouldn't compare Putin to Hitler since the latter was genocidal and sought to get rid of all Slavic people
@@ZastropollyonZ putin is MUCH WORSE just like Stalin was. All dictators MUST MURDER in order to maintain their position and they do so ONLY FOR THEIR OWN WELL BEING. They kill their own people in mas. This is a symptom OF ALL DICTATORS!
So I call him the "new hitler", because it is something that the russian people can understand what is and know something about, even those who BLINDLY believe in putin. These people would never understand if I called putin the "new stalin".
Keep in mind that stalin murdered about 4,000 Ukrainians called purification, but putin wants to exterminate everyone it seems!
Hope Ukraine wins the war soon, and without having to give putin any landwinnings. A brave and loving people!
