finally one commentator (the one younger with scottish/irish accent) that actually explains sometimes what is happening on the court and what tactics player goes or should pursue, contrary to all those "amazing squash", "great rally", "crowd loves it" etc. and nothing more
The commentators of today also go into tactics, but they are also great at getting people that don't know the sport that well interested. I think they strike a good balance.
Nicol was just a physical machine with patience and pure will to win. Seeing a prime him against Nick Matthew would be almost as good as a prime Ashour vs Power
Love to see Lincou. Wish we could see more when he was dominent (2004-5). World victory coming from match ball down must have been quite a thrilling match. (love Nicol too, but easier to find). Thanks
Fascinating to observe how the game has evolved over 17 years. Nicol, for example, has a huge backswing that you just don't seen anymore. Lincou is strong as a rock from the middle... a style you can see in Gaultier and Castanget, but something that seems less important to the newest generation of players. May the evolution continue! Thanks for posting PSA ;-)
Are you sure you aren't getting mixed up with the fact that Nicol is left handed. Forehand to forehand and backhand to backhand don't seem that different in size.
@@wimbledonnodelbmiw1642 Yeah we usually do at the start, the way we got this video uploaded whilst being forced to Work From Home prevented us from doing so this time I'm afraid. You're right though... so we've lowered the 'like target' to make up for it :)
Love the brick-like game stats and the graphics 😂 It's quite interesting seeing a classic PSA match, with the commentators and camera shots from back then, and comparing them to the modern ones. Plus seeing lil Olivia B-C was a nice surprise. She was so cute!
No reviewing every decision, court service for invisible drops of sweat, pretending you're not ready to receive the serve to get a few extra seconds before the rally, constantly drying yourself at the towel box - I can't believe how free flowing this generation seems to have been. Even the replays are faster and more accurate!
@@niffrig Rackets have changed; balls haven't. If anything modern balls bounce more because rallies tend to last longer, as players are generally fitter.

Martin Heath was the best squash commentator. Did some recent Commonwealth commentating as well.
@@OfCourts he was great and well spoken to.

just what was needed. more from that era >> Shabana, Power, Lincou,

The racquet technology has improved making the large backswing superfluous (plus the ball is much faster so you don't have as much time).
@@watching99134 not that much
Oh damn! Olivia Blatchford. I went attended the same squash camp as her one summer.
Olivia blatchford lol
I know right?! That caught us by surprise when we dug this out!
HAHA when I heard the voice I was going to make a joke about it being a young Ali Farag or something until I saw it was actually her!
Wow Olivia Blatchford is adorable - then and now!
Martin Heath was a fantastic commentator
If this video reaches 1,000 likes in the next 24 hours, we'll release the full match, right here on RUclips!
Next time you should put that in the video not everyone goes to the comment section

Great to See these legends again!
Nice work Martin Heath
Awesome just love it thanks for uploading.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Love this!!
I can see where JB and PJ got their inspiration for commentary
I think it was at 13-11 I realised I was going to have to wait till they got to 15. How we forget!
Rules, especially lets have changed since this era.

great basic game play, surprisingly not even one trickle boast in the whole game
I think the racquets and balls changed in the modern game. Less bounce in the current ball
I think it's got more to due with the lowered height of the tin.

@@gedofgont1006 Don't think anyone today is fitter than Nicol in his prime...
@@colinmcnicol2028 The game now is still faster though (plus how about Paul Coll?).
Peter Nicol looks like he is permanently smiling, haha
Watch his face when he serves though
That’s a soft let at 3-1!
So many tins on the volley for Lincou, poor guy
So many soft lets
looks fairly poor quality compared to ramy/shorbagy/farag.
Racquet technology wasn't as advanced so points look slower (all sports are like that if you go back and watch).
