She may be 50 years old but you have made her look new again. I know from personal experience, just how much satisfaction is contained in doing a good restoration. Regards and stay safe Nick.
Love seeing an old boat bought back to life. There's something about them, they have a character that so many brand new boats seem to. be missing. Good job guys! ⛵️😁
What year is your sailboat made? Thank-you for all for watching, liking, and sharing this episode! We hope all of you are staying safe, and are in good health. You are all in our thoughts! For more updates check out instagram.com/sailingalma
Wonderful to see what you have done to update your Ericson 41. My family owned an Ericson 41 for 27 years out of Newport, California. It was 5 years old when my folks bought it and had 15 bags of sails on it, having already been on Transpac twice and raced to Tahiti once. Your video bought back fond memories for me. Thank you.
Such a beautiful boat I’m sure it never gets old pulling up to her seeing her now after you brought her back to life. She really is a beauty with a lot of character something new boats are lacking
A lot of the points you cover is how we find traveling with a caravan around Australia for 4 to 6 mths at a time, always feels strange when we get home - so much space & things that you don’t really need. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to your next sailing adventure, stay safe
@@SailingAlma Yes a wonderful time cruising the Pacific, the yacht I lived on, 40 ft, was built in 1920 and won many races, we met the designer/ builder and went for a sail with him on his newest boat, 62 ft, that looks like your boat, really fast, only 10 ft beam, great experience, I wish you great times.
Thank you for being so very authentic and down to earth, I really like how you create your videos. Thank you, you've become one favorite channels. Stay healthy.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I clicked on this but I love your video! You do such a great job with the cinematography, editing, captions, etc. It’s just so pure and innocent. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much! This means a lot to us!!!! We are thrilled you enjoy the video and our editing style. Looking forward to hearing from you in future videos!
The Ericsons do have a classic beauty. I have been sailing a Ericson25 for sixteen years and if I ever upgrade, I would look at Ericson first. You've done a beautiful job restoring Alma. Have a great journey.
Been toying with the idea of purchasing my first sailboat for about 2 years now you're inspirational video has allowed me to remove that doubt I will be purchasing a sailboat! I'm currently living in San Diego I will be driving up to Dana Point next week to take a look at a few options I have selected! THANKS again! You guys are awesome and your baby is completely adorable
MrTruetwin Wow 🤩 that is amazing!!!! We are so happy for you. This is a big step and we wish you all the best in this process. Cheers 🥂 and thanks for watching our videos
I have it in my planes well it's in the works that in 2 yrs my search for a boat begins and in the meantime I am watching and learning about different boats and I am starting to have a list ones that I like... And that's how I came across your channel
Alma has the most beautiful lines of any of the sailing videos on your-tube. I am enjoying the fact that you in contrast to others are a family. Your young one should be a real sailor. Mahalo for sharing, Aloha ke Akua
We are on a Tayana Vancouver 42. Very similar in size and ability to yours. We are loving the life! She’s an ole girl too but not as “experienced” as your Alma. Thanks for sharing her with us. SV Beautiful Day - New subscribers
Sailing Alma it’s a 1977 Catalina 27. Not planning on any ocean crossings with it, just getting the family out on the water for weekend adventures locally here in SoCal. Not sure if you’ve got the footage or not, but I’d love to hear more about the process you went through painting your interior. I’m having a few issues with the original wood stain seeping through. Wondering if you had similar issues and what you did.
Joshua Reece nice boat ! Unfortunately we dont have any filming of that. We wish we did. We did two coats of primer since the wood was seeping through and then Painted the final Coat.
I have a suggestion about some things. Is there a way to capture rain water and have it flow into a barrel that you could use for things? Sorta like capturing rain off a house roof. Maybe a PVC hook up running straight to barrel. Also, you could use oversized PVC and make your own storage places around boat! You could cap the ends with solid cap on one end and a threaded end on front. Great for storage and lightweight as well. You could make shelves inside of your boat. You have to get a solar cooker for your food. Great out in all that sunshine you guys are in. Will save much of your gas. You'll love the taste of your food. Utilize as much of DIY technology as you can. All PVC pipe can be glued together eliminating need for special tools for shelves and other things. Use zip ties to put in place around boat. Hope this helps. Thank you for sharing your beautiful boat with us. Stay safe and enjoy life.
Our family of 4 lived aboard a 41 ft ketch made by Formosa Boat Company of Taiwan in about 1974. We bought Moonshadow in 1980 and sold her about 1989. It was a great exoerience. Our girls were 9 and 12 when we sold our house in Orange, CA and used the profit to buy her outright for $55k.
Thanks for a nice video and great restoration and modernization! Safety note: close the deck hatches and portlights when under way. Open hatches can lead to a loss of the boat in the wrong conditions. Also turn the vents (wind scoops, Dorade vents, etc.) backwards. The vents should only face forwards when not under way.
I really enjoyed the video. It’s good to see two people in love... with each other, and embracing the challenges together as a team. Age is just a number... although, as I age, it sure seems increasingly difficult. So, while I’ve dreamed of doing what your doing, I’ll enjoy you two or three. You have a beautiful family. I can tell, that you’re both wonderful parents. Merry Christmas... and smooth sailing.
Tasteful restoration of the interior. Love the dark hull, lovely boats. Not sure about the cockpit roof but in sunnier climates I am sure the extra shade & protection from weather makes it all more livable.
Thanks Johnny for watching! It is great especially in the heat we wish we had a full enclosure though maybe later on! We look forward to hearing from you in the future videos have a great week
Hi guys, congratulations on a superb refurb. I know the sweat & tears, + $ that these projects take! Done a few over the years, just embarking on another. Good luck with the sailing life. Cheers Grant New Zealand. 👍🥂
