@@ethanlee8307 There's a fine line between what is and isn't practical, and personal bias plays a big part. I tend to like functional armour designs, things like boob armour and heels in battle make me cringe, but visual flair is important especially in multiplayer games where you gotta be able to identify another player via the blurs zipping across your screen.

Anyone else think 76 losing his mask is a little weird? It doesn’t feel right seeing his whole face, plus now with just the visor he looks like a snowboarder.
I think most of the returning characters have lost a bit of characterisation in their new redesigns with many of them loosing their key identifying colours or style choices which have now been swapped for a more neutral and reserved outfit that doesn’t pop as well
Personally though really like how symmetry and Moira looks And I understand why they needed to seem more armored up, but like they could’ve done a better job then just rushing the design
I counted like 6 or 7 characters who lost/changed their primary colours, and well... I can't say Bastion changing color from silver to metal green, or Tracer changing orange to a bit darker orange is a big deal?
Most of these just had minor design change, i dont really mind that. And only few of them had their designs toned down and more reserved, which i personally like. Kinda like guilty gear strive, all their char designs have changed to a more grounded design, tho this comparison isnt really similar bcs guilty gear characters have much more change in their design compared to overwatch. I like widowmaker's new design the most. I understand the fanservices but her old design doesn't really makes sense to me but hey, everyone have different opinion
Some of the characters look like they have far less detail in 2, especially in the faces. They look less saturated and contrasty giving them a much flatter tone
An update I noticed was the way they've altered most characters eyes, changing the way certain expressions read between models. Some like Zarya have completely different irises and others have a more dark outline from either lashes or makeup. Interesting change.

I feel like the Overwatch 1 versions were more varied. A lot of the new ones have the same looking “tech armor” going on and a darker color palette. It’s not that it looks bad, but it’s repetitive and reduces everyone’s individuality.
I like that Reaper's redesign is doubling down on the edgelord aesthetic. The moment I saw he now has the high collar IN ADDITION TO THE COWL it became my favorite hands down. The dumb serrated forearm blades are just icing on the cake.
Interesting to see the “paint chipping” on the older designs, with the newer designs giving the impressions that everyone invested in new armour and aged up a little. I think it’s a cool touch and while a little of the uniqueness is lost, I think it makes the TEAM look more like a team - more cohesive, more polished. Still love the paint chipping on the old skins though don’t get me wrong. I think that together (comparing old and new) actually help to tell a story and will hopefully aid OW2

Thing I like about it is, Overwatch 1 was the heros in the past, while OW2 is the future/present. You can really see it with ana and soldier, ana has more wrinkles, soldier has a full white beard showing his ever increasing age. Moira gained some grey streaks. Most of the characters in general got some awesome suit upgrades. Hanzo's and McCree's beards grew. Echo didn't change because she doesn't need to over time. Zarya's forehead scar healed up a bit I probably missed a few, but I love how they didn't make it a redesign, they stuck with the lore and how OW2 takes place later on
Jesus. More wrinkles? Scar healed? That's just a different render ffs. You can also see most of the characters changing their skin color; in-game Moira is fucking orange. McCree got face as different as they could've made with lowest effort, for reasons well known. Also, he looks like a wasted homeless junkie (thank god for the OG skins). Hanzo's grown out beard is just a change of style, because surprise, people can shave. Soldier's change was cheap and distasteful af, his mask was one of the iconic things in Ow1. Overall, most of the changes are good, but some make you feel like it's it's a chinese clone of Ow1.
I’m a little sad they nerfed the size of Orisa’s horns by so much, though I love all the other changes they made. I just love how weirdly gentle the huge horns made her face.
the only good ones are genji, mercy, dva. widow is kinda nice as well. maybe it's my personal bias or something but most reskins look just that, reskins. Not a redesign.
Gotta love how they showed Genji in this badass hoodie in the trailer, only for him to wear it with the hood down in the game. Almost as if Blizzard wanted to disappoint Players.
Eh idk. While I do like the green line on the hoodie connecting to his eyes, I kinda prefer the hood down. Maybe they should add an option to have the hood down or up.
Not much of an overwatch fan, but I enjoy watching these types of videos. Interesting design changes as well. Went with the futuristic tech look and less into unique characteristics
As someone who doesn't play Overwatch I gotta say that Overwatch 1's skins look way better in my opinion. There is some spark of uniqueness missing in the 2nd version's variants, they tend to go a bit... Similar.
i started playing overwatch 2 and in my opinion theres a few redesigns i liked but other just look worst like zenyattas looks better in overwatch then in overwatch 2 and i liked more junkrat redesign because of the tire it looks very nice

I do wish they kept her arms bare because it fit her character, but yeah I like the changes Doomfist: I prefer the gold in his shoulder rather than the new black metal. I also liked the white face markings more than the new gold pieces. Orisa: I prefer the horns she had before. But I like her new body design more. I also like the new dread-like things coming out of her head Reinhardt: Love that you can see his face now. I generally prefer less face covering than more for characters. I also love the lion design on his chest. Though I will say his previous knight-like helmet was awesome Deva: While I do like the new hairstyle, there’s something about her hair being down that I liked a lot. I think her new outfit is cooler though. I also like the new blue design of the things at the side of her head Winston: Not different enough to really comment. I guess I like the overall higher detail of his new design Roadhog: Not very different. I prefer his new hairstyle I guess. But his new mask looks a bit too… cute? Something about the way it covers his face and the eye shape. Wrecking Ball: I like the new goggles. It was cute that he looked more like a normal hamster before though (not much clothing and stuff), but yeah. The ball itself looks cool too. Sigma: Not much different except the colouring of his outfit. I kind of prefer the darker grey-blues of his previous design. Also honestly the biggest loss is his original ‘character select’ animation (with the music and piano). I hope we can choose to keep the Overwatch 1 animation Bastion: The cap is cute, I like it. But I think I just need to get used to it. In terms of his body, I like the new colouring, and the new shaping is ok. Ganymede is the same 🐦 Genji: I like his new design. It’s not too different. Also glad they fixed the clipping of his sword and his scarf on his back. Although something about his new design makes him look less lean and more… buff? His armour seems bulkier. Not sure if I like this since it takes away from his sleek ninja vibe. Reaper: His new design is fine, but I prefer how his original mask looked like actual bone rather than the metal in his new mask. Junkrat: Aside from less sickly-looking skin and his hair being shorter, he looks the same. I prefer the new look. Cassidy: I like the longer facial hair. I also like the new outfit. It looks better than that thick scarf/cloak from before. Mei: I like her new design. I like the new hair m and the more detailed outfit. Widowmaker: While I did love the sleek long ponytail from before, I love her new braids. The facial markings she has now are also awesome. Cool new outfit too. Symmetra: Much better new outfit. More detailed and also more indicative of her culture. The previous outfit just looked like latex. I also like her new hair and mask. Ashe: Her new design is cool and all, but I kind of miss the suit part of her previous design. I like the new detail she has though. Echo: I see no differences Hanzo: I prefer his older design in every way. I don’t like that his chest is now covered. I don’t like the new black outfit. I don’t like that his headband is grey instead of that cool green. @@That_Box_ How is that wack ? There's like 4 robots in the game total. Orisa and Bastion got a visual update because they got different abilities so it makes sense to change them. Echo is pretty much unchanged, so why change her visuals? Genji was an actual person before, so it made sense to give him clothes, and zenyatta just changed his pants... And Echo was the last hero they released in Overwatch 1 so her design wasn't outdated at all...
A majority of the original Overwatch designs are just too iconic to compete with. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes but a huge part of why the game even skyrocketed in popularity to begin with is because of how well made the characters/costumes were. You'd need to have a bad case of recency bias to try and downplay them in favor of these redesigns which for the most part are overdone.
they’re both appealing in their own ways, i much prefer the overwatch 2 aesthetic and still think most if not all the heroes look unique. i’ll miss the old designs but i think they did a good job tastefully redesigning what was unnecessary

They did sigma dirty. I think the idea was to mark everyone look like their tech had been refined and done up by Overwatch, but in some cases it takes away a lot of cool details in favor of cleaner more hyper sci fi looks
Nostalgia speaks volumes huh? I never played OW 1, only OW 2, and I prefer OW 2's skins, but some few skins like McCree, Hanzo and Genji look better on OW1
With a couple of exception I like OW1 skins more tbh, no nostalgia as I had the game recently (when it became free)but the ow2 skins are a bit overdesigned and I always loved simple designs instead, no wonder two of my favorite designs in videogames are Joel from The Last of Us and the knight from Hollow Knight

Who else also prefers the old skins over the new ones? The original were just so good designed and have a stronger art style material and texture wise. The new ones feel generic and more caroony with the texture work despite being higher res
I think the newer skins look more practical and realistic than ow1. Alot of the characters are wearing techwear looking outfits, it seems like a realistic direction mainstream fashion could go. Its the opposite, ow1 skins were much more cartoony, especially for most of the female cast.
@@yuehan6711 I think that was part of the magic of OW1. I liked the cartoony style. We already have too many gritty, realistic shooters. I enjoyed getting lost in the sea of color and shape language that was the cast of OW1.

Damn, I thought I preferred the new ones, but seeing them like this the old ones were actually better at being iconic, simple, and better showing the personality of the wearer. Like tracer, who had a backstory behind her leather jacket.... and they removed it. Just like that. Or McCassidy, who went from having a strong broad facial structure, to a narrower anime-style face. Or Genji who just... they put a jacket on him? There's a zipper on his katana? Is this a joke?
All the new skins just look more… practical. Dva actually has some armor instead of just wearing a catsuit. Tracer is wearing something that looks more like protective glasses instead of ski wear. Also it kind of makes sense Genji would wear a jacket. After all, he at one point was extremely self conscious about his bionic body. Makes sense he would get used to wearing a jacket to cover some of it up, even if he’s alright with it now. Although I do find it a little bit funny Sombra’s got PCIe riser cables in her hair. Maybe she plugs her head into the gpu slot sometimes I dunno.
"less is more" The OW 1 designs were nice, simple and clean, and got their characters across very well. By contrast, most of the OW2 designs feel overly busy, detracting from the characters core visual concepts. There's some I do think are improvements, but overall, most of them feel worse than the OW1 ones.

While I do appreciate some of the design choices overall, I think that the problem with a lot of these new character designs is that the color palette is too saturated; that is, it's too bright. The original OW1 skins had a lot of the same colors, but duller, and with more general wear, which made the brighter colors like Doomfist's warpaint, the embers and ash on Junkrat, and the detailing on Pharah's armor stand out. Now everybody's just the same color all over and it kinda makes all the cool new costume stuff just wash out. Like, mans is just blue, or grey. He one color

But here, characters do have different siluetes and it's already good enough for recognising who you are dealing with. And then , there will be different skins with various colors anyway. I don't like redesigns because they feel off, bland, uncreative. But I also understand that it's Blizzard and that's what should he expected from a company at this point

I'm not sure if its just sensory accomodation but all the characters where their features, like eyes nose or face widght are noticeably smaller, like Doomfist, Mei or Symmetra, look much worse.
It feel like in overwatch all the original characters have the same armor that look more simplistic and modified. It probably take place a while after the original overwatch so everyone has less armor that works efficiently. And some characters gave less armor cuz its not their first time doing their job.
it makes sense, OW1 was focused on clean design and very silhoutte focused. all these new designs throw out the well thought-out decisions in silhouette and add detail where it previously wasnt needed. i think a really good example is what they did to most characters' hair. Junkrat lost his explosive hair, tracer her iconic little front bangs, and widow with the braid. Widow is supposed to be "slick and deadly like a spider" and now instead of a needle-like ponytail, its this chunky braid

I noticed that after Genji meet Zenyatta, he finally accepted his armor as his body, which meant he finally realized he was naked, hence his new clothing in overwatch 2
The irises and pupils are larger, making the eyes much less expressive. If you don't have enough whites in the eyes, it's not as clear what direction they're looking at or what expression they've got. Also compounding this, is that a lot of the eyes seems to have lost the eye shine, the little fleck of white in the top corner that makes them much more visible. This kind of gives a lot of the characters a dead-eyed look. Aesthetic aside, I feel like the new designs are a step back.

I thought part of the whole thing was that Jack's face was scarred, which is why the mask. But he doesn't seem to show any injuries.

Yea no offence but Meis eyes look kinda dead, they've lost the shine that her ow 1 skin had. And they completely changed baptistes colour pallette

Not much of an overwatch fan, but I enjoy watching these types of videos. Interesting design changes as well. Went with the futuristic tech look and less into unique characteristics
As someone who doesn't play Overwatch I gotta say that Overwatch 1's skins look way better in my opinion. There is some spark of uniqueness missing in the 2nd version's variants, they tend to go a bit... Similar.

Zarya: I like the changes. Her face (especially her eyes) looks more expressive. I do wish they kept her arms bare because it fit her character, but yeah I like the changes
Doomfist: I prefer the gold in his shoulder rather than the new black metal. I also liked the white face markings more than the new gold pieces.
Orisa: I prefer the horns she had before. But I like her new body design more. I also like the new dread-like things coming out of her head
Reinhardt: Love that you can see his face now. I generally prefer less face covering than more for characters. I also love the lion design on his chest. Though I will say his previous knight-like helmet was awesome
Deva: While I do like the new hairstyle, there’s something about her hair being down that I liked a lot. I think her new outfit is cooler though. I also like the new blue design of the things at the side of her head
Winston: Not different enough to really comment. I guess I like the overall higher detail of his new design
Roadhog: Not very different. I prefer his new hairstyle I guess. But his new mask looks a bit too… cute? Something about the way it covers his face and the eye shape.
Wrecking Ball: I like the new goggles. It was cute that he looked more like a normal hamster before though (not much clothing and stuff), but yeah. The ball itself looks cool too.
Sigma: Not much different except the colouring of his outfit. I kind of prefer the darker grey-blues of his previous design. Also honestly the biggest loss is his original ‘character select’ animation (with the music and piano). I hope we can choose to keep the Overwatch 1 animation
Bastion: The cap is cute, I like it. But I think I just need to get used to it. In terms of his body, I like the new colouring, and the new shaping is ok. Ganymede is the same 🐦
Genji: I like his new design. It’s not too different. Also glad they fixed the clipping of his sword and his scarf on his back. Although something about his new design makes him look less lean and more… buff? His armour seems bulkier. Not sure if I like this since it takes away from his sleek ninja vibe.
Reaper: His new design is fine, but I prefer how his original mask looked like actual bone rather than the metal in his new mask.
Junkrat: Aside from less sickly-looking skin and his hair being shorter, he looks the same. I prefer the new look.
Cassidy: I like the longer facial hair. I also like the new outfit. It looks better than that thick scarf/cloak from before.
Mei: I like her new design. I like the new hair m and the more detailed outfit.
Widowmaker: While I did love the sleek long ponytail from before, I love her new braids. The facial markings she has now are also awesome. Cool new outfit too.
Symmetra: Much better new outfit. More detailed and also more indicative of her culture. The previous outfit just looked like latex. I also like her new hair and mask.
Ashe: Her new design is cool and all, but I kind of miss the suit part of her previous design. I like the new detail she has though.
Echo: I see no differences
Hanzo: I prefer his older design in every way. I don’t like that his chest is now covered. I don’t like the new black outfit. I don’t like that his headband is grey instead of that cool green. His new grey streak in his hair is cool though
Pharah: I like the new detail of her new look, but I prefer the actual design of her previous look. Also now her hair no longer shows on the sides in her helmet :(
Tracer: I’m indifferent to the changes. I kind of miss how that glowing orb in the middle used to be more out, and now it’s embedded. Similarly to Sigma, I just hope we can choose to keep her previous character select animation with the hair blowing thing
Torbjorn: I like his new design. Love that you can see his hair, and his beard is more detailed. His actual outfit is cooler too
Sombra: Not that different. I prefer her new look, especially the thing at the side of her head
Soldier 76: Love the new design in every way. The more I can see of his face the better. Better hairstyle too. I will still want to use his ‘young’ skin though
Ana: I prefer her previous look. The hair tuft showing, her eyepatch, her outfit, her rifle, all better before. I do like the updated look of her face though
Mercy: I prefer her previous hair, but her new outfit
Baptiste: I prefer his older outfit a lot (the pop of colour), but his new hair is ok (I like the older hair more though). I like that his new outfit has the medical cross on it though
Brigitte: I prefer her previous design. Her hair with the headwear thing. Her outfit.
Moira: I prefer her previous design. Though I like her new hair and that she doesn’t have those weird black things on her forehead.
Lucio: I like the redesign of his face, but I like his previous hair and outfit. The new glowing dread things are cool, but I like his hair more before.
Zen: I like his new design but it’s not that different. I like his new outfit and the new design of his orbs

@@That_Box_ i think it is because overwatch 1 is before the fall of overwatch and 2 is after they came back together, they have updated their clothes and/or tools but echo is a robot so she can't update it like the others or chose not to

There's like 4 robots in the game total.
Orisa and Bastion got a visual update because they got different abilities so it makes sense to change them.
Echo is pretty much unchanged, so why change her visuals?
Genji was an actual person before, so it made sense to give him clothes, and zenyatta just changed his pants...
And Echo was the last hero they released in Overwatch 1 so her design wasn't outdated at all...
A majority of the original Overwatch designs are just too iconic to compete with. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes but a huge part of why the game even skyrocketed in popularity to begin with is because of how well made the characters/costumes were. You'd need to have a bad case of recency bias to try and downplay them in favor of these redesigns which for the most part are overdone.
they’re both appealing in their own ways, i much prefer the overwatch 2 aesthetic and still think most if not all the heroes look unique. i’ll miss the old designs but i think they did a good job tastefully redesigning what was unnecessary

I don’t think I can say OW1 or OW2 is better across the board. Lots of variety, but I am very glad we can pick which designs we want to use

Tracer's most significant difference is from the hips down. Still long legs, but no longer lanky. They have some more meat on them.

They did sigma dirty. I think the idea was to mark everyone look like their tech had been refined and done up by Overwatch, but in some cases it takes away a lot of cool details in favor of cleaner more hyper sci fi looks

Nostalgia speaks volumes huh? I never played OW 1, only OW 2, and I prefer OW 2's skins, but some few skins like McCree, Hanzo and Genji look better on OW1

With a couple of exception I like OW1 skins more tbh, no nostalgia as I had the game recently (when it became free)but the ow2 skins are a bit overdesigned and I always loved simple designs instead, no wonder two of my favorite designs in videogames are Joel from The Last of Us and the knight from Hollow Knight

Who else also prefers the old skins over the new ones? The original were just so good designed and have a stronger art style material and texture wise. The new ones feel generic and more caroony with the texture work despite being higher res
I think the newer skins look more practical and realistic than ow1. Alot of the characters are wearing techwear looking outfits, it seems like a realistic direction mainstream fashion could go. Its the opposite, ow1 skins were much more cartoony, especially for most of the female cast.
@@yuehan6711 I think that was part of the magic of OW1. I liked the cartoony style. We already have too many gritty, realistic shooters. I enjoyed getting lost in the sea of color and shape language that was the cast of OW1.

They all get this more futuristic armor and style than the OW1 ones, but I think it destroyed everyone's personality, this armor looks almost the same but with some detailed and color changes for every character, but their unique original clothes that make them stand out from one another are completely gone

Damn, I thought I preferred the new ones, but seeing them like this the old ones were actually better at being iconic, simple, and better showing the personality of the wearer. Like tracer, who had a backstory behind her leather jacket.... and they removed it. Just like that. Or McCassidy, who went from having a strong broad facial structure, to a narrower anime-style face. Or Genji who just... they put a jacket on him? There's a zipper on his katana? Is this a joke?
Cassidy's face is the exact same just with a different beard lol, Genji's katana doesn't have a zipper, it's on his sheath which is a common design.
All the new skins just look more… practical. Dva actually has some armor instead of just wearing a catsuit. Tracer is wearing something that looks more like protective glasses instead of ski wear. Also it kind of makes sense Genji would wear a jacket. After all, he at one point was extremely self conscious about his bionic body. Makes sense he would get used to wearing a jacket to cover some of it up, even if he’s alright with it now. Although I do find it a little bit funny Sombra’s got PCIe riser cables in her hair. Maybe she plugs her head into the gpu slot sometimes I dunno.

The OW 1 designs were nice, simple and clean, and got their characters across very well. By contrast, most of the OW2 designs feel overly busy, detracting from the characters core visual concepts.
There's some I do think are improvements, but overall, most of them feel worse than the OW1 ones.
Ow2 designer was like:
"Bruh, Valorant copied our game and it is so popular now, let's copy their style"

No, they all just kinda suck. But it's Blizzard, so don't expect anything good.
While I do appreciate some of the design choices overall, I think that the problem with a lot of these new character designs is that the color palette is too saturated; that is, it's too bright. The original OW1 skins had a lot of the same colors, but duller, and with more general wear, which made the brighter colors like Doomfist's warpaint, the embers and ash on Junkrat, and the detailing on Pharah's armor stand out. Now everybody's just the same color all over and it kinda makes all the cool new costume stuff just wash out. Like, mans is just blue, or grey. He one color

But here, characters do have different siluetes and it's already good enough for recognising who you are dealing with. And then , there will be different skins with various colors anyway. I don't like redesigns because they feel off, bland, uncreative. But I also understand that it's Blizzard and that's what should he expected from a company at this point

I personally really like most of the new designs. Also enjoy the fact that I can use whichever skin I feel is better for the character.
I'm not sure if its just sensory accomodation but all the characters where their features, like eyes nose or face widght are noticeably smaller, like Doomfist, Mei or Symmetra, look much worse.

It feel like in overwatch all the original characters have the same armor that look more simplistic and modified. It probably take place a while after the original overwatch so everyone has less armor that works efficiently. And some characters gave less armor cuz its not their first time doing their job.
Man, Overwatch 1.1 really had some nice graphics tweeks! Can't wait for them to make a sequel!

it makes sense, OW1 was focused on clean design and very silhoutte focused. all these new designs throw out the well thought-out decisions in silhouette and add detail where it previously wasnt needed.
i think a really good example is what they did to most characters' hair. Junkrat lost his explosive hair, tracer her iconic little front bangs, and widow with the braid. Widow is supposed to be "slick and deadly like a spider" and now instead of a needle-like ponytail, its this chunky braid

I guess your reaction is understandable. I've gone from having shaved head to long hair, and suddenly back to shaved head, and relatives and/or friend's first reaction is "so weeeeird, it's like a different person now".

The redesigned characters have had their faces changed to a more realistic design compared to the more stylised design

I noticed that after Genji meet Zenyatta, he finally accepted his armor as his body, which meant he finally realized he was naked, hence his new clothing in overwatch 2

Idk if it's intentional, but I love the detail of Bap's tattoo fading a little between OW1 and OW2
Zaryas skin too
The irises and pupils are larger, making the eyes much less expressive. If you don't have enough whites in the eyes, it's not as clear what direction they're looking at or what expression they've got.
Also compounding this, is that a lot of the eyes seems to have lost the eye shine, the little fleck of white in the top corner that makes them much more visible. This kind of gives a lot of the characters a dead-eyed look.
Aesthetic aside, I feel like the new designs are a step back.
In the legendary games of old, new assets were actually created...
