    Nice little pallet ,I like the different sizes of the pans so you can quickly change pigments depending on what and where your painting such as a public garden, Ocean, mountains of mist ect....love your special guest lol 🐈🐱

      Thanks! :D
      Yes, I really love how easy it is to reconfigure the set! And to keep the unused pans, on can layer the bottom of any box with adhesive magnet sheets, it's fairly easy. I love having a larger area to work the paint in the pans, it's really nice! :)

      It looks like it but there are still a few differences, and I'd be at a loss to find a white surface as good as this one for the lid. :) Though crafting one seems like a fun project, if you have access to all these supplies!

    Great review of a cute litte palette! It's so small I don't trust myself to not lose it haha! Things seem to disappear off my table while I'm working with them, not sure how it happens but I'm hoping they will all eventually turn up in a box somewhere lol! 😅 Love your painting and kitty is adorable! 😍 Thanks Eve! 😄

      If things disappear off the table and you have a cat, I'd consider them as a suspect... I don't know why, but cats really get a kick out of tossing things off tables.

    I like the concept of the pocket palette and I had had a similar idea in the past, but I'm not sure I'd get it for the price (~32 usd).
    The paint tins can be bought for cheap wholestock and the holder itself looks like a business card holder. The mixing area is nice though, so you're not mixing and having grey tones mess with the colors.
    The holbein colors look really nice too. I recently bought 2 colors; a green and a purple.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, this is basically a business card holder and empty makeup tins. It's not a complex item, but it's well put together. The only issue I've met is that the tins rust or oxidize after a while, and that affects the paint. It might be a better idea to spray the tins (with enamel paint?) before using them with watercolor paint....

    A wonderful review - I've always been curious about Holbein paints and they seem really nice! And that pocket palette looks intriguing. Fantastic that they offer different pan sizes :)

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 лет назад +1

      I'll see about sending you some Holbein with the pans I'm stashing for you ;) I really love these paints, for me they are a staple (a bit like W&N) but with more pizzazz and much easier to rewet as well.

    • @yuame
      @yuame 6 лет назад

      Aw, that'd be great - thanks Eve! I wonder how they'd compare to Mission Gold's, heard that Korean watercolours(e.g. Shin Han) are made to compete with Holbein's. They've colours that share the same names, too.

    Love the ending! just seen the set on jacksons at around £16 sadly it's out of stock as thats a steal. Also noticed a 12 set on the american amazon for $24 so am thinking about it! That palette looks interesting, most travel palettes are quite bulky that one looks really light and thin.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 лет назад +2

      The 12 colors set for 24$ sounds like a great deal too! I was checking the prices of Holbein on Jackson's and they are kind of pricey (which is no fun!) but that starter set is truly nice. I'm really happy that my local store still offers Holbein, and they are very decently priced. I hope they keep selling them forever! :) And the palette is really great! You can definitely always have paint with you with this tin, it weighs nothing and is super small. I only need to find a way to carry brushes that aren't waterbrushes....

    Great video Eve! 😁 Hi Pekoe...lol 😃 The is a nice little travel palette. I still haven't gotten over the feeling of needing a bigger mixing area. 😆 I will definitely keep this in mind for when I can feel comfortable going smaller. 😉

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 лет назад

      It's a very small mixing area, you're right about that. It's very hard to stain though, which I was really surprised to find out!

    Another great review, Eve! Yes, I would definitely use both items, the paints and the palette. Unfortunately I have so many paints now that I can’t justify buying more at this point, however, I would love to buy a few of those palettes and mix and match colors, that would be wonderful!

    HI PEKOE!!!! I WANT TO SQUISH YOUR FACE!!!
    I love that your pocket palette doesn't have those weird overlapping corners that some of the other versions I've seen, have! Always seemed like part of the tin covering my paint would frustrate me.
    Before inktober I got a 24 set of Holbein paints and recorded myself setting up what I call a "travel studio palette" with them, and did a doodlefinder using them. I feel pretty neutral about them so far, in that they seem fine but I wasn't blown away from first swipe. They remind me a lot of my mijello mission gold paints, which I also like but mostly don't use. Probably because, as Denise said, they don't have ox gall so they don't flow very much. And that's fine! It's just different.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 лет назад +1

      You're right! This palette looks like the aluminium card cases, but it's better made, I think. There are no overlaying corners and the white mixing area is really nice.
      Holbein paints are great! But yeah, when you have a lot of other great paints there might not be as big an incentive to use them. They are super well behaved though, they dry like a charm.

  • @halibut1249
    @halibut1249 5 лет назад

    It's so tiny, not what I m used to, and the small pans would require more frequent replenishment of paint, but with regular use I'm sure this is something I could quickly get used to. The mixing area is smaller too, and flat/shallow, which might be a limitation if you like to mix alot or lay down large washes. Price is over $100 USD.

    Nice review Eve! I also love using holbein since they're more available in my country compared to other brands. Btw it is pronounced as how it is written, "holbein" not "holbain" since they're from japan and their names written in japanese is ホルベイン or ho-ru-be-in

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 лет назад

      Thanks! :)
      Oh, good to know! I guess it's too easy to default to the -bain pronunciation... The Japanese pronunciation is closer to what we'd say in French, too, so I should've gone with that! ;) You're lucky to have these paints readily available to you, I hope the price is decent as well. I can get them here but they boost the prices a bit...

    • @UTleochi
      @UTleochi 6 лет назад +4

      As a German speaking person, I beg to differ. ;) Holbein is the name of a famous German Renaissance portrait painter en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_paintings_by_Hans_Holbein_the_Younger and is indeed pronounced HolbAin. The brand was named after that painter and I think it's legitimate to use the right (German) pronunciation even if it's a Japanese brand. :D
      That palette is so cute! I must NOT buy it! I've got ENOUGH art material. But I've been eyeing it since quite some time. The Holbein watercolours are some of my favourites. I love that you call them "well behaved colours", and I completely agree with you.
      I very much enjoyed watching you paint this beautiful little scenery.

    That palette is so thin, like a business card holder. I have limited experience with Holbein watercolors. Since trying Holbein years ago, I fell in love with Daniel Smith when I got my essential 7 Susie Short set. Now, I have a limited palette from Schmincke that I am still trying to figure out. It's a split primary set; but, not quite. The blues in the set are not exactly the ones that I would have chosen; However, Schmincke does not have nearly as many colors to choose from as Daniel Smith has.

    • @EveBolt
      @EveBolt  6 лет назад

      These are all great paints! :) The Susie Short set looks like great colors too! And I'm curious, which Schmincke palette did you get? :)

    • @Donna_G
      @Donna_G 6 лет назад

      Hi Eve, I had ordered the Schmincke Horadam Limited Edition 2017 half pan set of 12 from wetpaint.com. The palette came with 12 paints; but, it has room for 18 half pans.
      The paints included: Perylene dark red (178), Saturn Red (PO 64), Cobalt Azure (PB 35), Phthalo Sapphire Blue (PB 15:6), Yellow Orange (PY 153), Rutile yellow (PY 53). The Cobalt Azure has the same pigment number as Daniel Smith's Cerulean. The Phthalo Sapphire blue has the same number as Daniel Smith's Phthalo Blue (Red Shade). On paper both of these blues look like warm blues; because, that sapphire blue is very similar in color to Daniel Smith's French Ultramarine, which is a warm blue.
      The rest of the paints in this palette are primarily earthy colors: Potters pink (PR 233), Perylene violet (PV 29), Perylene Green (PBk 31), Viridian (PG 18), Mahogany Brown (PBr 33), and Hematite black (BG 17).
      I copied down the pigment numbers and the color names that were on the wrappers of these little squares of paint. If there was any other information I could have copied down, it's too late since I threw out the wrappers.
