My mom told me her grandfather was a doctor and the way he got out tape worms was to starve the patient and then put a bowl of hot chicken soup by the mouth and the tape worm would come out of the person's mouth to eat. I will never forget that true story. I miss my mom.

My grandma told me about how they still used diet pills that contained tapeworms when she was younger, so around 1950s-1960s. Apparently, it was common practice to eat the pill and keep the worm until you were happy with the results and then sit or place your behind in a bath with warm water and the worm would get out on its own. She also said it was possible to pass the worm while on the toilet. Sounds absolutely horrifying but people go under the knife and do worse for beauty standards so I guess we haven't changed all that much.

2nd year medical technologist student here. Tapeworms or Platyhelminthes as we call it, is one of the LONGEST parasites that we are learning. Sometimes measuring to 20 meter.

It sounds ridiculous, but a tapeworm living in your gut isn’t actually that dangerous relative to what it is. Of course it’s extremely unhealthy and could potentially kill you, but you have to remember that this thing is living inside of you. It’s relying on you to live so that it can too. If it kills you, it kills itself. If it manages to escape your body, it’s not gonna be able to go anywhere.
Funnily enough, it’s not the sentient worm that’s the deadly part, it’s the eggs. If you have a tapeworm inside of you, the eggs aren’t really that much of a problem. But if it’s the eggs that you first get, that’s when it gets extremely deadly. Like the video said, they can attach to your brain. A fully grown tapeworm isn’t gonna be able to survive once you die, but larvae will easily be able to, especially once your body gets eaten with them in it. So once they attach to your brain, they’ll consume it, grow a bit, and kill you in the process. You’ll then become food for other animals, and the baby tapeworms will be eaten and transferred into their new host’s gut, where they’ll grow and starve them just enough to keep the host alive, while allowing the worm to grow.

The video is mixing up things. They are talking about Cysticercosis. Which is when you eat tapeworm eggs - usually from feces. Usually you get tapeworm by eating contaminated *meat*. That goes to your intestines and grows. If you eat the eggs, then they can travel to many organs, including the eyes and brain. They can't develop there, but they can block important things, causing blindness or seizures.

My mom is a massage therapist, it runs in the family I just became the 4th in the family. Anyway, in her first year of working, she had a client who started coughing really hard while face down on the table. I had all the symptoms of parasites and had to take something called Paragone. Only thing is I accidentally took seven dropper fulls instead of seven drops for each dose. The effect was explosive. I shat out a ton of parasites and I was so relieved after.

Maybe from a rare burger or steak. I could literally feel them popping in and out of my butthole. It was bad. I only order medium steaks now. I still eat sushi but never had that problem again.

I do however eat rare steaks and have eaten rare burgers that were cooked by other individuals (I never cook them rare myself)
About 2 months ago actually, I cooked a steak rare (I got the steak from Walmart which is a biggg mistake I learned) and I got terrible food poisoning. Puked a few times and on the toilet all night and all day at work the next day (so humiliating, damn Walmart steaks) . By the time my work day was over, my poo wasn’t even brown it was just like clear water. I have eaten rare steaks my whole life so I was really confused, so only thing I can do is blame Walmart. Looking back idk wtf I was thinking, it was almost like I was asking for it.
Long story short, I think the quality of the meat is the biggest deal. If you were eating bad meat, than that’s where they came from.

The things that came out of me were really scary to see though. Like I said I could feel them poking out of me. Maybe pinworms but maybe even tapeworms. I also had what looked like flukes. It was really disturbing. My grandfather's partner had a patient that got worms in her brain from undercooked tacos in MEX. I have always eaten out a lot and I think that's the problem bc you never really know who is preparing your food and if they are following the health code... Or even washing your hands. You can get parasites from unwashed vegetables or even from people who don't wash their hands when they wipe if they also have them which is so nasty to think of. One thing that isn’t mentioned is how risky surgery was in general at the time.
Some doctors at the time were not the cleanest before going under the knife, so if somebody was going to get a tapeworm removed without the use of a hook, they would put themselves at risk of having an infection caused by uncleanly surgeons.
A perfect example of this is James A. Garfield. After he got shot at a railway station in Maryland, he underwent surgery to remove the bullets and nurse his wounds. However, the doctors performing surgery on him did not have proper hygiene, and because of that, James developed an infection and died a little soon after.
Granted, there were some doctors who did make sure to carry out hygiene precautions, but it was not always considered or even available at times.

It was extremely horrible. Tapeworms are literally thin (or thinner) than a strip of scotch tape. If it Broke/snapped, leaving the remaining bit inside, would usually cause game over situation
