  • MONTANA 54, MONTANA STATE 35: No one has been able to accurately peg the Montana Grizzlies all season.
Their identity, their abilities and their trajectory was largely in question for much of the year, until the final three weeks of the regular season. With their backs against the wall, the Griz closed the regular season on a three-game winning streak, beating rival Montana State 54-35 in the annual "Brawl of the Wild" game in Bozeman.
Montana quarterback Brady Gustafson threw for 353 yards and four touchdown passes, as the Grizzlies overcame an early deficit to lead 34-17 at halftime.
Montana State opened the game with a touchdown on a 46-yard pass from Dakota Prukop to Beau Sandland. From there, Montana would score 31 unanswered points to lead 31-7 with 7:36 left in the half, after a Gustafson-to-Ellis Henderson touchdown connection.
Two Bobcats touchdowns in the fourth quarter got Montana State within ten, 44-35, with 9:25 remaining. However, the Grizzlies scored two touchdowns to ice the game.
It was a quarterback battle, as Gustafson and Montana State star Dakota Prukop dueled. Prukop finished with 313 yards and three touchdown passes, while also rushing for 47 yards.
The Grizzlies finish the season at 7-4 overall, and 6-2 in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats finish at 5-6, and 3-5 in the Big Sky.

They are close. Unfortunately, Montana probably doesn't have the population to compete on the FBS level year in and year out.
