This is my "the flame" story. Just graduated high school in June 1988. I signed up for the army and was waiting til August 3, 1988. I had a girlfriend, but the "girl of my dreams" showed interest in me. We were on a lake called Starve Hollow in Indiana. Was torn between the two. My buddies and I just partied on the lake and I remember this song coming on the radio. (no Itunes, spotify, etc.....) I laid on the picnic table for what seemed hours and this song came on what seemed every 10 minutes. A teenager in love. lol. Well I ended up marrying "not the girl of my dreams" but my girlfriend cause she said she was pregnant while I came home from my first leave from military. Well she left me when I went to Germany. I ended up with my wife now, who was friends with both of them. She sent me a letter when I went to gulf war in 1991. 30 years later we have two awesome grandkids and I love her to death. This song is AWESOME !!!!!
Golden finger picker---I was a freshman in high school, my boyfriend at the time was a senior. We stayed together for 2 years. At the beginning of my Junior year he decided to move back to Hawaii. He was from Hawaii and had moved to my town, his dad was military. I was heartbroken. He said this song reminded him of me. Years later when my son was 2 (I married the love of my life) He called me and said I should have married you. I am sorry I left you. He was married and had 2 kids. I said I did not feel the same way. I wished him well. Funny how a heartbreak can create beauty. Married for 30 years with 2 kids, a grandchild on the way. So glad that he broke up with me.

I remember this song came out when thier career wasn't doing as well. This song was written for them They hated it. Turns out that it was one of their biggest hit. One of my favorites. So glad they did it

I saw Cheap Trick at Red Rocks outside of Denver back in ‘85. One of my favorite bands in high school.
This song was actually wrote for a British singer by the name of Elkie Brooks & she refused to sing it so cheap trick ended up with it and became one of their biggest hits ever.
That is unbelievable to me. Zander has sang this with such passion is concert clips I have seen that I thought he must have written it. This song did revive CT's career. They had success and hits afterwards for a time. It reminds me of Aerosmith with "Angel," they were thought of as a has been band after terrible heroin addictions almost destroyed the "Toxic Twins," Tyler and Perry. The song was not written by them but by hot songwriter Desmond Childs and they took it and bam what a comeback ensued.
I love everything this band has done but this is my favorite song by them. Check them out on RUclips with Jennifer mettles they did a CMT crossroads they did one of her songs called “stay” and then sang “the flame.” She is absolutely fantastic singing with him.
Cheep Trick - another late-arriving, but very worthy inductee into the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame.
Cheap Trick is one of my all time favorites. They are absolutely legendary. Rock & Roll Hall of fame inductees, responsible for one of the greatest live rock albums ever recorded, highly respected as one of the hardest working bands in rock, still touring regularly and releasing albums in their 70s. They have die hard fans who have been at their side for over 40 years now. They have had a tremendous influence on so many other bands and musicians over the years. You may not realize it yet, but you stumbled on a goldmine. You should check out their official video for The Dream Police, Surrender from their live at Budokan performance (anything off of that will be great, but that was a huge hit) and one of my favorites;

So many good songs. Two songs that you'd like, Tonight It's You and If You Want My Love. They also have a tremendous dark side to some of their music that would change many peoples perception of them.

It is a great song. I don't know if you've done any Journey but check them out. If you really liked this one. Faithfully is one of the great ones from Journey. They have a ton of classic power ballads.

Thank you for your reaction! The thing about this song is if you were seeing/hearing it live in concert, you'd want to go old school with a cigarette lighter to wave back and forth over your head. Everyone else in the audience would be doing the same thing. It's a haunting song about losing the love of your life, yet it makes you want to raise your hands and sway back and forth. :)

The band hated that this song was so popular. I believe they played it 1 time live and have never performed it again.
They have performed this song MANY times live....search youtube...
They didn’t like the fact that they were forced by the record label to use some outside writers and they did not write this song. They had always played their own songs and controlled things but sales slipped and they were forced into this so that’s why they didn’t like it. They also don’t write songs to be hits which this was
