If you recall, Ygritte was the one that shot Ollys dad in the head with a arrow when they raided their village and Olly definitely saw. So him killing her was definitely about personal revenge as well. You could say it was justified.

Ygritt was not on a revenge tour. That's nonsense. If she had wanted to, she would have killed John as he fled and here she could have done it quickly without any problems. She didn't want anyone else to kill him, and she didn't want to do that herself. But she has to convince the others not to attack him and to convince herself that she wants to do it. But she never really wanted to. It was simply a hopeless situation. It's like when two people only plan up to a certain point and then see how it goes on because they have no idea themselves.

Love that when Jon was holding Ygritte, half the screen on her side was lit up by fire, and Jon's half of the screen looks dark and cold. Ice and Fire. Also, in regards to Thorne's hatred for Jon, not only is it for the reasons you gave, but Thorne may also hate him for being related to the Starks. They're one of the main houses from the rebellion that caused Thorne to be sent to the wall.

Ygritte was killed by an arrow, her favorite weapon.
And that's quite of a theme in the show. Many characters died from their own weapons, or in the same way they killed someone, or by their own creation.

yea her dying was literally an arrow to the chest. lol their story had a romeo and juliet vibe to it, two people from the opposite side falling for each other. I liked that character and when that happened, I was beyond pissed off!

I also hope you all will watch the histories and lore WITH “spoilers” knowing what is coming does not diminish the enjoyment of watching. It makes for even more eager anticipation and HOTD is in good hands so far, so - unlike D&D- I am fairly certain they will deliver in astonishment.
GRRM has built such a rich lore that casual viewers miss out on if they aren’t privy. Some things that happen in these episodes and in HOTD are nods to book stuff.

Tbh I never liked Ygritte so much but the scene with her and John hit me anyway. Probably because of empathy for Jon. If you try to see this from his perspective it's actually really sad. Also, the coincidences you pointed out make this even worse, it's crazy. The fact that Olly didn't want to fight but SAM encouraged him??? Then Olly saw John in danger (from a woman who killed his dad! Corey was right btw) and probably was like 'I have to save him' and he did it, without really knowing what the shot mean for John... Daaamn that's tough! Epic 🖤 Goerge R.R. Martin is a genius without a doubt 🙌💯

Another Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday, Centurion) banger. As a director it is a fantastic benefit that Marshall has a great interest in military history and I don't know for sure, but though he is not credited as a writer on this episode, I've always felt that he may have contributed some dialogue, particularly to Alliser Thorne. If you haven't seen any of his feature film work, I would recommend it. I think Dog Soldiers (which is like a modestly budgeted but good action/horror film that's like Predator or Aliens but with werewolves) and Centurion (Romans vs Picts) are the two films that got him this gig. If my memory is correct, this might be the last episode Marshall directed for the series.

@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Could be that he didn't want to and had booked other jobs, but then it might also have to do with something he said about a producer on Game of Thrones (not D&D) who walked up to him and asked him to have more nudity in a certain scene, According to Marshall this producer referred to himself as "representing the pervert part of the audience". I don't think it was ever revealed who this producer was, but even if Marshall wanted to come back, having that conversation out in the press probably didn't go over well with other showrunners/producers. I honestly don't know why I remember all of this shit, but my head is filled with useless information.

Also the fact that Alister Thorn was a Targaryen supporter is the reason why he hates Jon Snow. Cause he is the son of one of the leaders that took down the Targs. Speaking of Jon, before this episode, I was always lukewarm with him. The brooding mopey type I never got into. Like I know how girls would like that lol but that held no interest to me. Until Watchers on the Wall where he became a freaking champ. Showing a ton of leadership and he became one my favorites from that point on. But I think him going on his own there makes no sense. The Night's Watch could have mounted a suicide operation with a bunch of guys trying to kill Mance like a bunch of Navy Seals. That would have made more sense than just one dude who happens to be essentialy the leader in that point of the story.

The penultimate episodes so far in the series have been epic..
This episode is amazing.. a person who has never seen an eppy of GoT could watch it with little to no context and enjoy it as its own little movie..
Definitely a top 5 episode for me..
Thorne’s best moments in the show for sure.. I agree he’s an interesting character with a great backstory.. wanted to add to that how much he absolutely hated Ned Stark, hence his hatred for Jon by extension.. even so, he puts that aside temporarily for the good of The Watch.. I can hardly stand the irony.. 😂
So, Sam’s little speech about when he killed a white walker and temporarily being “nothing,” I enjoy thinking about a more literal interpretation of his words..Lord of Light?? So far, when we have seen the lord of light bring someone back, as in Beric Dondarion, the red woman asks him what he sees when on the other side.. the answer?? Nothing.
It was great to see all three of the guys so throughly enjoying this episode.. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Blake so happy/excited in a GoT reaction..
4 inches is not a lot.. of cold, hard-rolled steel, that is.. 😉

Nah… they could not afford to make a dent in those Hollywood good looks of his. It actually always annoyed me that he comes out of this pretty much unscathed. Makeup should at least have given him a huge knob on his head.
